The disciples around her were srized, trying to imitate her movents, but none could match her fluidity.
"How does she manage to be so graceful even in the midst of battle?"
"I think it’s a matter of perception... She sees combat as a dance."
"If only I could reach even half her level..."
Yin i, seemingly indifferent to the comnts, heard everything. But she didn’t respond, rely calmly wiping the blood from her sword before resuming her stance.
Not far away, BaiShe watched for a mont longer before looking away. He knew Yin i was skilled, but seeing her in action reminded him just how poor his self-taught fighting style truly was.
A cry rang out from the rear lines. A disciple had been hurled into the air before crashing heavily to the ground. BaiShe turned his head and saw the source of the problem: a massive creature, far larger than the others.
Its skin was an abyssal black, cracked with red fissures oozing an eerie, unhealthy glow. Its eyes, a fiery red, seed to burn with sinister intelligence.
"A rank six..." soone whispered, and a wave of terror rippled through the disciples.
The next instant, the monster opened its maw and let out a roar so powerful that the air itself seed to vibrate. An invisible shockwave swept through the fighters, sending several tumbling to the ground.
Cang Fei tightened his grip on Sky Cleaver and stepped forward without hesitation.
"Everyone, form up! Don’t let fear overwhelm you!"
But the rank six monster gave them no ti. Its body, blackened by darkness, seed to rge with the air, and in an instant, it reappeared right in front of a group of disciples. Its massive arm rose, ready to strike them down.
Then, a figure materialized between them and the creature.
BaiShe, his sword enveloped in a silver light, stood his ground without the slightest hesitation.
"Move aside, I’ll handle this."
"Alone?" a disciple exclaid.
"You’re crazy! That monster—"
"Do as I say." BaiShe’s voice was icy.
The monster growled, then brought its arm down with colossal force. BaiShe didn’t move imdiately, waiting until the last mont before raising his sword.
A flash illuminated the scene.
In a single motion, BaiShe cleanly severed the monster’s arm, stopping its attack before it could reach the disciples. His technique was disastrous and even embarrassing, but fortunately, he was powerful enough to infuse his Qi into the blade, and it did the job.
Silence fell.
Then, a spray of black liquid burst from the stump, and a piercing scream echoed.
Cang Fei, tightening his grip on Sky Cleaver, nodded at him in thanks.
...
Kang fought with furious rage, his flaming lance tracing fiery arcs in the air. Each movent unleashed an intense wave of heat, and with every strike, creatures fell, either charred or impaled. His breath was heavy, but he didn’t slow down. He couldn’t afford to weaken.
"Damn it! This is never-ending!"
Beside him, Ruoxi casually flung flas here and there, without real engagent. Unlike Kang, she seed almost disinterested in the fight, as if it were all just a ga to her. She lazily raised her hand, creating fireballs that she carelessly tossed at the monsters, sotis hitting several at once, sotis missing completely.
Kang growled at her lack of involvent.
"You could at least pretend to fight seriously!"
Ruoxi shrugged, a smirk on her lips.
"This is fighting seriously ~"
"We have to protect our family’s soldiers!"
"Protect them?" She laughed, conjuring a new fla in the palm of her hand. "I’m sure this is their test, right? A way for the Elders to see who’s worthy of surviving and who’s just dead weight among the younger generation."
She flung her fla without looking, hitting a monster that collapsed screaming, its body consud.
Kang clenched his teeth. He knew she was partly right. The protectors of the families or sects were always hidden in the shadows, doing nothing to help them. They simply observed, leaving the younger generation to fend for themselves. It was a way to forge them in the fire of battle and eliminate the weak.
Anyway, their lives weren’t really in danger. But for Kang, that wasn’t a reason to remain passive and let the weak die. He might be a pervert or a brute, but his naive nature prevented him from letting his subjects or struggling cultivators die.
He suddenly turned his head as a cry rang out to his right. A young cultivator had just lost an arm to the bite of a rank four monster. He fell to his knees, his face contorted in pain, and tried to crawl backward. But the creature was already approaching to finish him off.
Kang didn’t hesitate. He leaped forward, his lance tracing a circle of flas around him.
His lance glowed with an orange brilliance, and he hurled it with all his strength. The weapon tore through the air like a teor, piercing the monster’s heart. The creature let out a roar and collapsed in a cloud of burning smoke.
The young man on the ground looked up, gasping.
"T-thank you..."
Kang extended a hand to help him up.
"If you can still walk, fight. If not, run. But don’t just lie there waiting to die."
Behind him, Ruoxi raised her eyebrows and comnted sarcastically.
"Even you looked so noble, Kang. Hahaha."
He ignored her remark and retrieved his lance, ready to resu the fight.
Around them, the battle had turned into a nightmare. The monsters, growing more nurous, ford a veritable black tide, advancing relentlessly.
The warriors of the Feng family, on the front lines, struggled to maintain their formation.
"Don’t let your lines break!" one of the captains, a re Seven-Star Nascent Soul at fifty, roared.
His halberd blazed with flas. "Strengthen the fire barriers!" another cried.
A group of soldiers raised their arms in unison, using talismans with complex symbols in the air. A wall of flas erupted from the ground, temporarily separating the monsters from the fighters.
But it was only a temporary reprieve. They surged against the barrier and leaped through it, sending chunks of fire and stone flying in all directions.
