A high mountain, a low-lying crag, a fresh spring, an ancient pine, a brightly burning oven, a pot of green tea, an old man, a young boy.

[1] He is referring to the titular character from the Little Li’s Flying Dagger series. “Tanhua” is actually a title for soone who places third in the Imperial examinations of ancient China.

[2] This person’s surna “Lan” is the sa character as the character for the color blue.

[3] Throughout this story I will consistently translate the Chinese character 刀 as “blade.” This character encompasses all kinds of blades, from butchers knives, to swords. I will only translate the character 剑 as “sword.”
