When it was all over, the demons had either escaped or they had fallen to our weapons.
We could have chased them down, but I made sure that no one chased after the demons.
After all, there was no telling what would be waiting for us.
Once they were backed into a corner, there was no telling how the demons would bite.
For the sake of reducing casualties, I made sure that we didn’t lose control of ourselves in fighting against the demons.
Though it certainly was hard with the volunteers from the Deter Kingdom. Especially since they were fighting in the lands that had been taken from them, fighting against the ones that took these lands from them.
It was understandable that they would lose themselves when fighting against the demons.
Still, I made sure that everyone still followed my orders.
When it was all over, we grouped up with the group that had almost been ambushed.
When they arrived, they had been confused by what they were seeing, but they still ca to support us. With their support, there were even more of the demons that were taken down in the end.
But once it was over, there were naturally questions that had to be asked.
"What are you doing here?"
The two generals that had been leading the group of soldiers narrowed their eyes to look at .
Though they asked this question to , it was clear who they were actually asking this question to.
The soldiers that they had assigned to watch had followed us, so of course they wanted to know the truth from them. They didn’t think that they would get the truth out of us.
"You were surrounded and we ca to help you. If we didn’t co, then you would have fallen into the traps of the demons." I said in a calm voice.
This just made the generals glare at even more before looking at their soldiers as if they were asking them if this was the truth or not.
There was a mont of hesitation that ca from those soldiers, but eventually they nodded to confirm this before saying, "It’s...the truth."
When the generals saw this, it seed like they were filled with even more anger.
But they controlled themselves as they said, "Explain what this ans."
I didn’t say anything since I knew that they wouldn’t want to hear it from anyway.
So I just let the soldiers explain everything to them.
At the end of their words, they said sothing that almost made it sound like I had planned all of this. It was as if they were pinning the bla on , as if I knew sothing that they didn’t.
At least they didn’t go as far as saying that I had colluded with the demons to bring them all into the trap like this.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
The generals still acted like they were in charge here, but it was clear that their n weren’t actually on their side.
After all, while this had been happening, there were scouts that had checked out the area.
These scouts had already found the traces of the traps that the demons set which we had disabled before they had arrived. If it wasn’t for the fact that we had disabled these traps, they could already imagine the consequences.
When it ca to their own lives, they naturally wanted to live.
So the public opinion was shifting to the one that saved them.
I looked at the generals and said, "I noticed the traces of the demons earlier when we crossed the border, so I had a vague idea of what was happening."
"Why didn’t you tell us?" The generals said through gritted teeth.
This ti, I didn’t back down as I said, "If you hadn’t been wasting ti thinking about who would be getting credit or not, then I would have been able to do so. But instead, you sent people to watch over and kept in the back. There is no one to bla but yourselves for this."
The generals looked like they were about to explode from anger, but I just ignored them as I turned to the knights and asked, "Have you already recorded everything?"
They raised the magic crystal that they had brought along and nodded to show that they had.
The generals were shocked to see this before they realized that they had been caught in a trap.
"Relax, the credit will still go to you, but things will be different now. You’re no longer in command, I am." I said in a firm voice.
The generals had ugly looks on their faces, but they already knew that there was nothing that they could do. After all, with this kind of evidence against them, if I were to release it...
Even if I had promised them the credit for this mission, it wasn’t as if it would be enough to make up for all of this. It would an that they would be punished even if they had this credit to balance so of this.
So the only thing that they could do in the end was give a nod as their shoulders slumped.
Even though they were powerful generals, there really wasn’t anything that they could do when everything was against them like this.
I didn’t bother caring about how they felt as I said to the soldiers, "Follow , we’re going to rescue the other groups."
The soldiers were surprised to hear this, but they didn’t hesitate since they knew exactly what I was talking about.
If the demons had set up a trap for them, it would only make sense that the demons would have set up a trap for the other group.
So they had to hurry and save the other group before they fell into that trap.
After all, that other group made up half of their forces.
It would be a disaster if they lost these troops.
