"What do you an by this?"
It was only natural that they would be filled with doubt when they heard say this.
However, it seed like King Abel XIV could see through my thoughts and there was even a look of praise in his eyes.
"It’s very simple, I just want to serve as the figurehead. You should know what kind of morale I can raise in the troops because of my title as the hero which I think is quite the valuable thing. As long as I act as the figurehead, it would certainly make things much easier for this campaign."
The generals knitted their brows when they heard this, but they didn’t deny what I was saying.
After all, they had seen the fervor from the crowd during the ceremony.
At the sa ti, they naturally knew what position a hero held in the hearts of the people.
Even among their troops, they had already heard of praises for the hero.
So if a hero were to lead this army, there was no doubt that their morale would soar even higher.
Especially if they were going up against the demons.
So for these generals, they knew that this was a very tempting offer.
The problem was that they didn’t want to give him any of the credit at all. They wanted to be the ones that led this battle, but even a leader in na would still at least receive so credit.
"I know what you are thinking, so I’ll say it now."
Turning to King Abel XIV, I said, "I will give them my credit when this mission is over. I hope that you will accept this compromise."
The nobles looked a bit ugly when they heard this since this was a bit disdainful towards them, but they also didn’t say anything as they waited to see what King Abel XIV had to say.
"Alright, if that’s what you want."
The nobles were certainly surprised that King Abel XIV would agree that easily, but since he agreed...
"Then we’ll let you co along. However, you have to follow the orders that we give." The generals said as if they were still in charge, but I didn’t care about that.
Just the fact that I was coming along was more than enough because there was sothing about this mission that I knew that they didn’t.
This was the main reason why I wanted to co along.
It would be important for to co along when things went wrong.
Since the generals got what they wanted, there was nothing else for them to say.
Though the looks on their faces showed that they clearly didn’t feel like they had won in the end. It felt like they had no choice but to compromise with what they had been given and had no real choice on this matter.
But since they had no real choice, there really wasn’t anything that they could say.
The way that they looked at when this eting was over was as if they were thinking of ways to ss with . It really seed like they were thinking of ways of making sure that I wouldn’t be able to do anything aningful.
Once again, I ignored them as they left.
The reason that I wasn’t leaving as well was because King Abel XIV had called for to stay even though he had dismissed the rest of the nobles.
Naturally, the nobles had been unhappy about this and had been glaring at as a result.
But it wasn’t as if there was anything that they could do about it since it was the king that called to stay.
Once we were alone, he asked sothing that I didn’t expect to hear.
"Why are you really doing this?"
I was taken aback and a bit impressed by his instincts, but I just calmly looked back at him and said, "It’s all for morale."
King Abel XIV narrowed his eyes to look at as if he didn’t believe what I was saying, but I just calmly looked right back at him without batting a lash.
Even then, it seed like he still had his doubts.
After a mont of silence, he suddenly said, "If you know anything, just tell . I know that it’s hard for you to speak because of how they are treating you, but we both want the best for the people. That’s why I trust you to lead the army in the first place."
With him being sincere like this, it was a bit hard to keep lying to him to his face.
However, this wasn’t sothing that could really be shared with him.
That was why in the end, I just said, "I really don’t have anything to hide, it’s just that I feel that the demons have made things too easy. I don’t know what will happen, but it’ll be easier for to deal with it if I’m on the scene. At the sa ti, I’ll be able to help more if I inspire everyone that is there."
He narrowed his eyes to look at for a bit before saying with a sigh, "So you’re thinking the sa thing that I am. However, it seems like you’re compromising with them far more than I would."
I just revealed a smile without saying anything.
"You’re right, it does feel like the demons have made things too easy. That’s why I’ll be sending a few knights along with you, use them however you want." King Abel XIV said with a sigh in the end.
I was surprised to hear this, but I couldn’t help saying, "If you send knights with , I’m afraid..."
"If I didn’t know that, then there’s no need for to keep my crown. Their official title will be royal guards for Andrea, but they will listen to you when things break down. That’s why don’t hesitate to use them for what you want, I trust you to look after the people."
This was a heavy responsibility that he was giving .
With a nod, I said, "I won’t let you down."
