Douglas’s face was filled with madness, and his voice contained an indescribable oddity.
It seed that Douglas had hidden this secret for many years, and now he finally had the chance to speak of it, his body even trembling with excitent.
His appearance left the surrounding people exchanging glances.
Although they had all been threatened to co here, they undoubtedly recognized Douglas’s strength: Level 88 was second only to Augustus in the entire Holy Court.
Moreover, Douglas was still young, not even forty this year, and it was a certainty that he would break through the Level 90 barrier in the future.
Usually in charge of the Heresy Court, reticent and impartial, even the high-ranking officials of the Church Court would instinctively grow uneasy upon seeing Douglas, even if they hadn’t committed any wrongdoings.
Who could have imagined that this Cardinal, with a will as hard as steel, would show such an appearance, far surpassing even the Church’s fanatics?
With just this short sentence, Douglas’s face had even twisted into a knot, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Everyone could hear the whooshing sound coming from Douglas’s throat.
But, God’s Daughter?
Could it be that Douglas had gone mad?
A group of people below whispered amongst themselves, their muttering sounds continuous.
Even Rose Vesper’s expression turned odd; she had not expected Douglas to assign her such an identity. Was this to facilitate her accession to the papal throne?
Seeing the reactions of the people below, Douglas sneered, "I know you all think I’m mad. I am well aware of what I’m saying, and no matter how much you doubt , there is no question that Lady Losveis possesses the bloodline of a god."
After a brief pause, Douglas continued, "The na Saintess Rose Philis, I believe should be familiar to you all, correct?"
The crowd’s faces grew even stranger; of course, the na was familiar—it belonged to the saintess of Augustus’s generation.
She was also once the most outstanding and talented mber of the Holy Court.
Her beauty was breathtaking and her talent extraordinary.
At the age of eighteen, she broke through the Level 80 barrier and beca a Great Sage.
Not just within the Holy Court but across the entire Sky Do Continent, there was no one more outstanding than Philis, save for Antia, the National Guardian Valkyrie from a thousand years ago, according to the legends.
The so-called prodigies like Nadia and others were nothing compared to Saintess Philis.
Even Augustus, the Saint Heir of her ti, fell far short in talent when compared to Philis.
By the age of twenty-nine, she had reached Level 89. She was just one step away from crossing that threshold and becoming a master of Level 90.
The most enviable and infuriating aspect was that Philis’s strength improved at an alarming rate; ironically though, she hardly ever practiced seriously. She even disliked training, spending less than half the ti in practice compared to the Holy Court’s average, dedicating most of her ti to interacting with believers.
During the period when Philis was active, the Holy Court’s reputation was at its best. Many believers praised Philis as the most beloved and gentle saintess.
However, such an outstanding saintess disappeared suddenly in her last year of service after serving the deity for the last ti, becoming the Holy Court’s biggest unsolved case for over twenty years.
They had all heard so rumors, but the truth was hard to discern. Now, seeing Douglas’s intent, could he possibly know the truth?
For a mont, the crowd even forgot their anger at being threatened, and all eyes were intensely focused on Douglas, hoping he would continue.
Douglas cleared his throat, "Don’t you all think that Lady Losveis’s na is very similar to that of Saintess Rose Philis?"
Lady Losveis’s expression changed slightly.
"The true events of many years ago were disgracefully concealed by that scoundrel Augustus."
"That year, Augustus and Saintess Philis served the god for the last ti, and during this final service, the deity descended upon the Holy Hall."
As these words were spoken, the crowd was shocked.
God descended?
How could that be possible?
The God they worshiped rarely even issued an oracle, let alone descended to the mortal realm?
"I know it’s hard for you to believe, but the old Pope, the previous leader of the Holy Knight Order, the Cardinal of the Heresy Court, as well as a large number of elderly masters within the Church Court, they all felt it—that pressure from another level, all of them knelt on the ground praying devoutly."
"Am I wrong, Archbishops Kain and Manson, and Vice Captain Gabriel? You were outside the Holy Hall at the ti. You are more aware than I am of what that felt like," Douglas said.
In a flash, everyone’s gaze turned to these three venerable figures who remained silent and somber as though they were transported back to that night.
Seeing the expressions on their faces, the rest of the crowd could almost be certain that Douglas was not lying.
So twenty or so years ago, a deity truly descended?
But why had this event been suppressed by the Holy Court? Shouldn’t this have been a mont of great glory for the Holy Court?
"We cannot know which deity it was that descended, but it was certainly not the Holy Light Goddess, because on the day after the Holy Hall doors opened, Saintess Philis was found to be pregnant."
