Chapter 72: What dog to choose? _1
Sun Shouping clearly loved dogs, and now as he spoke of his beloved pets, his eyes sparkled and his expression softened with affection.
“If you want a guard dog, those common pet dogs you see on the market, like Huskies, Shiba Inus, Golden Retrievers, Labradors… none of them will do.”
“The first two basically have no obedience, only madness.”
“The last two have enough obedience, but they lack intimidation and attack power, you’re raising them on a mountain, and people would still co up to pet them!”
He opened an iron gate, and imdiately, puppies joyfully rushed over in the grassy yard, seemingly plunging Song Tan into a fluffy paradise.
Even though Song Tan rembered she wanted an adult dog, she nearly succumbed to them right then and there.
...
I an, who could resist the temptation of these fluffy and cute puppies!
Sun Shouping couldn’t help but smile as he watched.
He had seen many people buy dogs, and a look at the details was enough to tell if soone truly loved them or not.
So people love pedigree, so love looks, and others, regardless of these factors, only want to vent their frustrations, boost their ego, or show off…
In short, once you’ve kept animals for a long ti and invested a lot of emotion, it’s too easy to beco heartbroken over them if you fail to see the larger picture.
Sun Shouping has loved dogs since he was young, and only in the past two years has he slowly cald down.
But calm as he may be, seeing soone truly fond of dogs still made him happy, so he quickly led Song Tan to another area:
“Don’t you have a small dog at ho? A well-trained local mutt is really smart! Not inferior to these breeds. So this ti, don’t look at the puppies, just pick what you need.”
Song Tan knew this, but it didn’t stop her from joking, “Sun Ge, you’re pushing so hard, is it because adult dogs are a bit more expensive?”
Sun Shouping laughed, “You’re mistaken there, the price difference between my big dogs and small dogs isn’t much, and the puppies actually make more money!”
Raising dogs is different from other things, companion animals, like cats and dogs, are best matched with their owners at the right age. They’re also the easiest to bond with and can receive very effective training.
But once that optimal period passes, no matter the breed, the older they grow, the less cute and good-looking they are compared to when they were puppies.
At that point, the chances of selling them have already diminished greatly.
Therefore, with pets, the older they are, the more likely they are to be sold cheaply.
By the ti they are adults, they are basically unsellable.
The reason Sun Shouping’s kennel hadn’t reached the point of practically giving dogs away was that he raised large breeds, which had a fairly high demand even as adults.
And all of them were ant for guarding and protection; to maintain combat capability and training results, the quality of their diet was definitely not compromised.
As a result, the price difference between his big and small dogs was leveled by their als.
And because he was introduced by Zhang Yanping, he had not even charged a separate training fee!
He explained these intricacies briefly and, fearing that Song Tan would worry that the adult dog might not obey or be affectionate when brought ho, quickly clarified:
“You can rest assured about the adult dogs here. I’m not deceiving you, I’m obviously the master here.”
“But as soon as they go ho with you and you feed them with care for a while, as long as you neither spoil them nor mistreat them, they will absolutely obey commands and be fiercely loyal.”
“Despite my kennel only being open for a little over two years, I’ve been in this line of work long before opening it. Over these years, I’ve kept track of the dogs I’ve sold.”
“As for reputation, you can ask Yanping.”
Song Tan had already inquired about this thoroughly before coming, and now she nodded:
“So, do you have any dogs to recomnd?”
Sun Shouping smiled, dealing with soone who understood made things pleasant.
“It’s up to your preference. Purely for guarding the mountains, German Shepherds, Casros, Mastiffs, Dobermans… any of these will do, it all depends on what you like.”
“German Shepherds are sharper, with a higher IQ.”
“Casros are calr and very self-confident.”
“Dobermans are bolder, and also more fierce.”
“The Mastiff can run and jump, over this fence of mine that’s two ters high, no problem,”
he said, making it sound as if he had hardly introduced the dogs at all, as each one only had rits!
Song Tan couldn’t help but feel torn.
At this mont, they had arrived at the farthest adow.
It was a vast space, with folding partition fences along the edge, and in the middle of the adow, about a dozen large dogs were lying lazily in the grass, basking in the sun.
They looked content and poised, clearly enjoying a comfortable life in the dog training area.
Sun Shouping couldn’t help but sigh, “Dogs have it better than humans.”
Then he clapped his hands:
“Co over here.”
In an instant, all the dogs pricked up their ears and imdiately stood up, spirited and dashing towards Sun Shouping!
One dog in motion brought all the others with it.
They charged over with loud barks, the spectacle quite impressive!
Sun Shouping even stepped in front of Song Tan, looking at her worriedly from the side, afraid that the beautiful girl would be startled.
However, Song Tan was looking at the large dogs in front of her with gleaming eyes, paying him no mind and his subtle movents.
She noticed that the leading Mastiff was indeed capable of running and jumping, its leaps outshining the rest, with particularly swift movents.
Following was the Doberman. It looked sowhat fierce yet dopey, charging mindlessly as though it might bite soone who didn’t know any better.
Then ca several German Shepherds and Casros.
In comparison, their running was much more cautious; as they neared Sun Shouping, they slowed down even more, and only when they finally gathered around him did they excitedly stick out their tongues to lick his palms.
But they were obviously well-trained; despite the general excitent, even with Song Tan standing right beside Sun Shouping, the dozen dogs carefully avoided her, approaching their master from the other side.
The closest black-backed dog was even cautious, wagging its tail without a single hair touching Song Tan.
“They really are well-trained!”
She couldn’t help but exclaim.
Seeing she wasn’t afraid, Sun Shouping was also pleasantly surprised, and he clapped his hands again, issuing a command: “Sit down!”
In a mont, all the dogs took a step back and obediently sat down. Then they cocked their heads, curiously eyeing the strange girl next to their master.
Song Tan already had her hand over her chest:
“I just regret that my hill isn’t big enough, my wallet not hefty enough…”
Otherwise, she really wanted to take all the dogs ho!
Sun Shouping also smiled happily:
“It’s rare to see soone as brave as you! Co on, see if there’s any that catch your eye.”
“I can honestly say, all the dogs here et your needs, you just have to pick the one you like and that likes you back.”
“These dogs are smart, you know. If they don’t seem too willing to go with you, then I’m afraid you’ll have to pick another one.”
When it ca to this, Song Tan was quite confident.
She smiled aningfully, “I’ve been likable to animals since I was a child, I’m afraid if I lift a finger, all your dogs will want to follow
ho.”
Sun Shouping laughed heartily, stepped back, and pointed to Song Tan for the dogs:
“Show your best now, this might be your new owner.”
For a mont, all the dogs fixed their gaze on Song Tan.
