Noon ca in a slow pace, coming with a scorching heat. Daniel was at the windowpane watching the people of the town hurry about their business, each of them scurrying away.

He might be looking at the traffic and the people, but his mind was not on them. That wasn’t the case.

Matteo Valez still found a way to creep into his thoughts, and it was irritating him to the bone. If he had known, maybe before he ran off he could have just ended him then, but he was too fixated on escape that the option sounded like a fool’s plan.

But now he could only regret. Well, his revenge was going peacefully, and soon Adrain would co to him, and then his torture could begin. But to end this all, his death needed to be confird.

A temporary one... to soothe the masses since it’s what they want so bad.

While he was thinking, he suddenly looked at the far end of the street and saw soone carrying a huge bag, rejoicing loudly and announcing in the streets.

"Soon it will be Christmas holiday, hope Santa will get you sothing," the man said while looking around. Daniel felt caught up. Christmas holiday? So it ans they were either in December or close to it.

How?? When did it even reach that? Why hasn’t Michael said sothing or doesn’t he spend Christmas here?

He too doesn’t, but with the way Michael seems to be the cheerful type, at least he should have dozens of friends he would spend it with. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

In the sitting room, Michael was sitting on one of the couches with Cindy in-between his legs as he braided her hair. Cinderella was humming a sad tune, tired of the sad and miserable life.

Out there she could hear kids that were more than ready to celebrate Christmas, but hers was different. Who would agree to associate and play with a cripple? To them she was a freak and not eligible for their group.

"No Christmas again, brother?? Is it because of our condition? Because I want to celebrate one. It has been so long since we did that." She put the question out so innocently.

Michael had a sad look. Christmas was dead to him, and he had no reason to look forward to those holidays because his health, as predicted, would grow worse then. Is it when Christmas cos that he would be going to different hospitals?

Will he be able to handle leaving his sweet sister behind to handle the harsh world all alone? All this made Christmas sore in his mind, so he would rather not celebrate at all.

"Sweet sis, that’s not true. Christmas will always be in our heart. No one can take it away from us, so not celebrating it lavishly isn’t a cri," Michael assured.

To himself, his words were empty because he really wanted to do it. To celebrate it. But how? To spend lavishly was now an issue because his money was dwindling. Nurous calls had co by asking why he hadn’t co for work.

But in reality, he had stopped everything to look after Daniel and Cindy before he probably couldn’t in a few months’ ti because that ti was nearing.

"It’s okay, brother. Well, I have you so Christmas isn’t that much."

Slam!!!

Sothing powerful hit the table close to them and brought them back to reality. Daniel was looking at them, shaking his head in dismay.

"Are you out of your senses?? No Christmas? Like why the hell would a person say that?" Daniel asked. Even though he wasn’t a stranger to their issues, dropping everything that would give you happiness for what again...

Because soon you might die? That was absolutely trash.

"Daniel, you won’t understand. Maybe Christmas has been a beautiful thing for you and a great holiday, but for it’s not." Michael stated firmly.

"That was when my parents never made it back, and Christmas has always been so kind of cursed day for , so thanks, I will pass." Michael sounded pained.

If not a fact, it was evident that his parents’ disappearance made a great impact in his life—one that was still haunting him up till date.

"Believe it, Michael, it wasn’t as blissful as I made it sound. But that was when I had a choice. I had that little power around my hand and I could actually influence choices." A lancholy music played in the background.

"Christmas gave that sense of happiness to own it up at least once, and I won’t allow you to gloat continuously and waste away your life. That would be foolish of to do," Daniel declared, and he ca to a conclusion.

"So Michael and Cindy, we are attending the gala and masquerade party normally hosted during Christmas and New Year. This is a mont of joy, co on, grasp it," Daniel encouraged.

Michael didn’t move from his spot. His eyes saddened even more and his aura kept diminishing as each day passed. By Daniel’s calculations and observation, he was slowly giving up. Leaving it all for nature to take its course.

"Michael, don’t do this to . Let’s go for this. It’s for your happiness and your sister’s own. Please move forward towards this sea of depression." Daniel tried to talk him out, but that didn’t work.

He too was depressed. Alexander’s disappearance still haunted him morning and night, and thanks to Norman’s help he had recruited a secret agent who was helping him look for Alexander.

The guy couldn’t be dead, because if he was, the feeling would have gotten to him a long ti ago since he was sohow connected to them all. But in fact, he didn’t feel anything. It showed that he was alive—more than alive and kicking—so he must be found.

"A masquerade ball you say... where?? Where exactly? Because last ti I rember you despise this area, so attending a masquerade ball was obviously the last thing you would do, so I don’t understand." Michael was trying to understand his intentions.

"It’s here in the countryside. It’s disgusting, but we got to manage it. My happiness isn’t what matters now. All I can think about is you, because your depression is making sad that I can’t think of any damn thing. So it’s better I wake you up this mont." Daniel concluded, and Michael’s eyes changed to another shade, seemingly brightening up a bit.

"Now that’s more. I like it. Better than that hideous frown." Daniel smiled, and Michael, who wasn’t expecting the sweet smile, awkwardly fell into one.

That’s so sweet of him. Daniel in fact was human after all. No matter how revenge has made him appear cold, he still has a soft spot for others. Apparently he too was included.

A soft blush crept to his chin that made him appear slightly softer.

"So how do you intend to attend a masquerade ball without an invitation?" Michael threw him the impossible question.
