Chas and Constantine walked in the front door and were t by two very hyped up young Genn in the middle of a sugar rush. Stephen was laughing, Donnie was exhausted, and the boys were all over the place.

It didn’t take Constantine but one snap of his finger and a growl—Richie and Eli stopped in their tracks and apologized for being so out of control.

Donnie walked over and wrapped his arm around Constantine. "You have to show that trick later on, because between Stephen and having a child each a month apart, it’s going to get loud here because Xavier will be full blast too. But right now, young man, I’m going to take Rusty. The boys are going to lay down in a few minutes for a nap, and you need to go out and explore, walk around, get to know things around here by yourself. Who knows, you might walk up and find soone that tickles your fancy, or at least your vent."

"Thanks, Mr. Donnie, but I’m not ready for anybody to tickle my vent. But it would be nice to et soone besides Chas to have an intelligent conversation with."

Stephen snickered. "Just don’t get too smart with so of these Genn around here—they’re not sophisticated and they still drag their knuckles and grunt."

"Well, Stephen, just because you got you a fancy doctor Genn who are not sophisticated and drag her knuckles and grunt, I guess that was good enough for you to start out with."

Donnie and Stephen both laughed and agreed Constantine needed to go for a walk by himself, since Chas was expecting company at any ti.

Constantine was out for a walk and found himself close to the main house when he saw Harry’s garden. It was beautiful—so much ti and love went into this place. It must be for soone very special.

Harry popped his head up and waved at Constantine. "You must be one of the new ones that just arrived. I believe your na is Constantine. Let introduce myself—I’m Harry Spinelli. Zack is my husband, and I see that you appreciate the finer things in life, such as this beautiful garden that he had created for ."

Constantine smiled and made small talk with Harry and was invited in for a cool drink and to have a seat so that he could appreciate the flowers even more.

They sat there and talked like they were old friends, not new acquaintances. Constantine found talking to Harry was relaxing, and he could talk about anything. As he finished up his drink, he told Harry that he needed to get back to the boys because he had been gone too long.

"Well, don’t make yourself a stranger. The twins are down for a nap at this ti, but I have my hands full later on. Bring your brothers by to the main house for a visit and a light brunch one day. Who knows, one day we may be carrying at the sa ti."

"Harry, I’m a hybrid. Nobody will want to bed a hybrid—we’re not good quality."

"Don’t sell yourself short, Constantine. You are a looker, and anyone—Genn or human—would be lucky to have you grace their bed as a partner." Harry’s voice grew encouraging. "Just keep your eyes and your options open. Don’t let the first one that starts feeling around on you—don’t go for that. Make him work for it. If they want to work for it, then maybe he has enough class."

On the way back to the house, Constantine got a couple of wolf whistles from a few guys, but he did not show them any interest because a whistle ans no class.

Constantine went back, picked up the boys, and took them ho, and they relaxed as a family.

Zack swallowed deeply as he knocked on his son-in-law’s door. Nobody liked to deliver ssages like this. With him was Martin and Hanz.

Robbie opened the door all smiles and welcod his father-in-law in, surprised to see Martin and Hanz with him.

They walked inside and Zack told Robbie to have a seat—they needed to talk and it was very important. Robbie had a sinking feeling in his stomach; sothing wasn’t right.

"Son, when’s the last ti you heard from your boys, Arlen particularly?"

"Almost a year, Mr. Zack. He’s got that publishing job and his life in the city. You know he didn’t want to grow up a Genn—he’s always wanted and always thought he should’ve been human. I didn’t discourage him; I just told him that he had to be 10 tis more careful than anyone else if he was going to try to pass himself off as human." Robbie’s voice grew concerned. "Is there sothing wrong?"

Martin took the lead. "Robbie, there was an incident in the city and Arlen was involved. It wasn’t good. Physically he’s okay, but ntally he’s in a bad place."

"What’s happened to my boy? I need to see him." The full weight of the situation brought the big man down to his knees.

"Arlen and his human partner were attacked at their ho yesterday. Alec made sure that Arlen was safe and got him to a panic room. Alec wasn’t so lucky."

Martin continued, his voice heavy. "They had been living together for almost 2 years, passing themselves off as a gay couple in order to live together, and they even got married. Everything had been going great until there was an incident and Arlen conceived. They were over the top—he made it to six months. He took a leave of absence from his job, working from ho so they could hide the pregnancy."

"There was a problem in the condominium, and unannounced, a new employee for the building walked in on a very pregnant Arlen. There was no way he could hide who he was or what he was. Alec tried to smooth things over with the maintenance person, and they thought they had succeeded."

Martin’s expression darkened. "That was until later that afternoon when he returned with three of his buddies—Genn-hating buddies. He used a passkey to co into the house after he disabled the entrance alarm. They went after Arlen, but being the aggressive huge human that Alec was, protecting his mate and the dad of his child, he gave Arlen enough ti to get into a panic room and seal himself off."

"He alerted the authorities, but they didn’t get there in ti. Alec was severely beaten, and as they got ready to leave, one of the others—a young man with high-up parents in the governnt—turned around and shot him in his abdon." Martin’s voice grew pained. "As they left, one of the neighbors ca in to find Alec bleeding profusely. Arlen didn’t care who knew what he was—his mate was lying there bleeding to death waiting on dical help. He had co out of the panic room and rushed to his side."

"A crowd of neighbors gathered in the apartnt, unable to do anything as Arlen held onto his dying partner. According to the authorities, Alec was more worried about the baby and Arlen, as he knew he would not be around to see his son be born or grow up."

Martin paused, gathering himself. "The story is the hottest topic on all the blotters and all news channels. Rights groups have already taken up the cause—the anti-hatred against Genn and the humans who choose to love them as equals."

Robbie was beside himself; Luther was holding him tight as Martin continued the story. "He was lucky that when he was transported to Hawthorne dical Center due to the pregnancy and the trauma, Clark was there, along with Ed who was attending to business. The GBI has taken full control of the case and is going for the maximum allowed punishnt for all those involved in the murder of Alec Reed, and attempted murder of Arlen Reed and their unborn child."

"The defense will argue that the marriage was not valid because of the genetics of Arlen being a Genn. But the prosecution has already stated that they were a legally married couple in the eyes of the law, and the only way that they can drop the charges or dismiss anything is if they make the marriage null and void. But it’s been two years with the baby on the way—I don’t see any jury tossing it out, much less a judge if he wants to be reelected in this ti and day to go against it."

Martin’s voice softened slightly. "Clark has got Arlen partially sedated and is bringing them ho."
