For the first ti in years, Soren slept without nightmares. No mories clawed at the back of his mind, no shadows lood in his dreams. It was quiet.

Riven, on the other hand?

He barely got any sleep at all.

For one, the chains were incredibly uncomfortable. Soren had so kindly re-chained him before they went to sleep, as if Riven were so wild animal that needed to be secured!

"Stop moving or else I’ll fuck you again," Soren warned.

Riven had so many complaints.

First of all, what if he had to get up to pee? That was a valid concern. Soren might not care about his dignity, but Riven did!

Second of all... Well, there was no second of all. He kind of enjoyed being held by Soren.

By the ti Riven finally managed to doze off, morning had arrived.

And Soren? Of course, he was already gone. The man never slept in. He had a clan to run, and apparently, that ant leaving his captive behind in a tangled ss of blankets and chains.

Not that Riven was complaining. He enjoyed the peace, brief as it was.

Soon enough, a servant entered the room to bring him breakfast.

A male servant.

Of course.

Soren absolutely hated won.

It wasn’t a secret. There were no female maids in the entire estate, no won in positions of service. Soren had no interest in them, which made Riven just a little bit curious. But now wasn’t the ti for deep thoughts.

Now was the ti to focus on the terrible attitude of the fox shifter currently standing in front of him.

The servant looked at Riven like he was sothing he had stepped in. Disgust flickered across his face as he placed the tray down with an obnoxiously loud clank.

Riven raised an eyebrow, his ears twitching as he picked up on the barely-audible muttering.

Ah. So this guy hated him.

How shocking.

Riven smirked, tilting his head slightly. Ti to have so fun.

"Are you jealous?" he asked, his voice dripping with amusent.

The servant stiffened. "What?"

"I an, it’s understandable." Riven sighed dramatically, resting his chin on his palm. His tail swished lazily behind him. "Many desire , but not everyone can have . It must be hard for you."

The servant’s face twisted in offense. His hands clenched into fists at his sides. "You arrogant mutt—"

Riven cut him off with a careless wave of his hand. "Please, I get it. You see , you see how much attention I’m getting from your dear master, and it stings. You wanted to be in his good graces, but here I am, sleeping in his bed, held in his arms—"

Riven never really considered himself a morning person.

Actually, if he had to rank all the things he hated in life, waking up early would be sowhere near the top—right next to being chained up like a misbehaving pet and having to deal with insufferable fox servants who had sticks up their butt.

Unfortunately for him, he had experienced all three within the last twenty-four hours.

"You think you’re special?" The servant snapped, eyes flashing. "You’re nothing more than a distraction. A temporary plaything."

Riven grinned. "Oh, a plaything now? That’s an improvent. I was a mutt just a second ago."

Riven yawned lazily. These cliches really are boring, there was always that one jealous and delusional person who thought they had a chance with the male leads.

And... Well, up till his transmigration he was that delusional person.

The servant’s entire body radiated rage. His tail bristled, his shoulders tense as if he was ready to launch himself at Riven and tear him apart.

But he wouldn’t dare.

Not when Soren had made it clear that Riven belonged to him. Not when Soren had spent the night holding him, sleeping peacefully for the first ti in ages.

The servant’s nostrils flared, but before he could say anything else—

The door slamd open.

"Ahem."

The entire room froze.

The fox servant stiffened violently, his face, previously filled with anger, drained of all color.

Riven, sensing the shift in atmosphere, slowly turned his head.

And there stood Xavier.

Silent. Unreadable. Holding a small wooden box in one hand.

For a long mont, nobody moved. Xavier was supposed to deliver the collar and leave... But he did not know he would encounter sothing as absurd as this. Riven was untouchable, he was their master’s pet.

The servant looked like he had just seen a ghost. His lips parted, but no sound ca out.

"I— I—" he stamred.

Xavier didn’t blink. His deep blue eyes, sharp and unreadable, stayed locked onto the fox like a predator deciding whether or not to end its prey.

"If you cannot control your tongue," he murmured, "I’ll pull it out for you."

Dead silence.

The servant flinched so hard he nearly dropped the tray.

Riven, watching the entire exchange, was thoroughly entertained. His tail flicked in amusent as he lazily took a bite of fruit from his tray.

The fox servant did not need to be told twice. He bowed so fast Riven thought his neck might snap, then scrambled out of the room like his life depended on it.

Riven sighed dramatically. "Well, that was fun."

Now, it was just the two of them.

Riven turned to Xavier with a wolfish grin. "I have to say, there’s nothing sexier than a man who threatens violence on my behalf."

Xavier didn’t respond.

Not even a twitch.

Instead, he turned and started walking toward the door.

Riven’s grin dropped.

"Hey— wait!"

Xavier paused. He didn’t turn around, but Riven could tell from the way his shoulders shifted that he was listening.

For the first ti since his kidnapping, Riven realised he had been so caught up in his own problems that he hadn’t even had the chance to think about what was happening back ho.

His smirk faded.

"The wolf clan," he said, tone more serious than before. "What’s happening there?"
