Margaret waited anxiously, her heart pounding as the officer walked away to get Jake.

Soon, Jake was led out, looking weary and defeated. He sat across from her, avoiding her gaze, his hands resting on the table. Margaret's chest tightened at the sight of him.

"How are you holding up?" she asked softly, her voice trembling. "Are they treating you well?"

Jake gave a slight nod but didn't look up. "I'm fine, Mom. I'm sorry you had to co here."

Margaret blinked back tears. "Don't say that. I'm your mother. I'll always be here for you."

"When you called to tell you're in here, I almost lost it, Jake. What happened? Claire said you were embezzling funds from the company," she said, looking at Jake.

Jake's face snapped up at the ntion of Claire's na, and he raised his eyes to et his mother. "I... Claire and Alex," he spat. "They've always been out to get . This was their plan all along, Mom. They wanted out of the company. I didn't do anything."

Margaret's jaw tightened. "So that's how it is. To think Claire had the nerve to co to my house today, pretending like she cared. She said it was all for your own good, that this is supposed to teach you a lesson. Can you believe that? I won't let her get away with this."

Jake slamd his fists on the table, making Margaret flinch. "A lesson? For what? I gave everything to that company! I worked harder than anyone else, and this is how they repay . By throwing under the bus? First, she gives the CEO position to that stranger, and she's conspired with him to throw out simply because the board of directors wants to be CEO."

Margaret's face reddened with anger as she listened. "That ungrateful boy!" she hissed. "After everything my dad had done for him. My family stood by him through thick and thin, and this is what he does to my son? Alex—oh, that little weasel. He's always been jealous of you. Always! And Claire won't just see through him. I'm going to teach them both a lesson."

Jake smirked bitterly. "Exactly, Mom. He's been waiting for a chance to take over. Claire's just using this as an excuse to side with him. She's always treated him like the golden boy and like I was nothing. Yet I'm the one that carries her blood. What did I ever do to her to deserve her hatred? Mom...." Jake let the rest of his words trail off as he started sobbing.

"Oh, my boy," Margaret called, her heart breaking at the sight of her son in tears.

How could Claire have been so heartless and stupid as to put Jake in this condition.

Margaret reached out, her hand hovering over his before pulling back. "Don't worry. I'll get you out of here. I'll call everyone I need to. You won't stay here long, I promise."

Jake's eyes narrowed, and his voice grew cold. "Good. And when I get out of here, I'll make them pay for what they've done. Both of them. They think they've won, but they have no idea what I'm capable of."

Margaret swallowed, unease creeping into her anger, but she quickly dismissed it. "You're my son, Jake. I'll always stand by you. Don't you worry. I'll fix this."

Jake leaned back in his chair, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "You always have, Mom. And that's why I know I can count on you now."

Margaret sighed, looking at Jake. What was he planning to do? If she was being honest, the tone he had used now reminded her a lot of her ex-husband.

A part of her wanted to caution him and tell him not to pursue any of this after he got out, but another part of her was scared—scared that if she did, she might lose him.

What was she going to do now? Support him? She thought, then inhaled deeply. He was her son, and she was going to stand by him no matter what.

Jake looked at his mom and leaned closer. "There's sothing I need you to do for ."

"Anything," Margaret said quickly. "Just tell ."

"Call Vanessa," Jake said. "I need you to talk to her. She might be able to help. She might have a way to get out if Claire decides not to withdraw the case. You have her number, don't you?"

Margaret hesitated, then nodded. "Yes, I have it. I'll call her as soon as I leave here. Don't worry about anything, okay?"

"Thank you," Jake said, his voice barely a whisper.

Margaret forced a reassuring smile. "I'll co back tomorrow. Try to stay strong, Jake."

As she left the station, Margaret felt a renewed determination. She drove ho quickly, her mind racing with thoughts of how to handle the situation. Once inside, she grabbed her phone and dialed Vanessa's number.

The line rang and rang, but there was no answer. Frustrated, Margaret tried again, but it went straight to voicemail. She tried a third ti, hoping for a response, but Vanessa didn't pick up.

Margaret placed the phone down with a sigh, running her hands through her hair. She refused to let despair take over. If Vanessa weren't going to answer, she would find another way to help Jake.

She would try to talk to Claire again, and if she continued to stand her ground, then she would have no other choice but to do things her way. Margaret thought, holding up her phone.

Perhaps a good lawyer might help with the case. She thought as she began scrolling through her contacts, making a list of potential lawyers who could take the case.

"I won't let him rot in there," she murmured to herself. "Whatever it takes, I'll bring my son ho. Even if it ant groveling at Claire's and Alex's feet."

Perhaps she should try calling Vanessa again to see if she'd pick up this ti. She thought as she started dialing Vanessa's line again.
