Three days later.
"Are you sure you don’t want to co?" Hyerin asked, walking out of the apartnt.
She was dressed casually.
"Yeah, you won’t have any privacy if I tag along."
He smiled a charming smile. Those who didn’t know him would think he was a saint with such a content expression.
"I will only be a bother. You girls should celebrate. It’s not every day you survive sothing this big."
"You should co too. It will be a nice change of pace." Min-Ha looked up from her phone. "We can book a VIP room. Most restaurants would oblige."
"Nah, I’m alright," Averie laughed. "Nobody likes spending all their ti with their boss anyways."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I would like to study so classic performances tonight. I don’t want anyone disturbing . So, don’t call, and enjoy yourselves tonight. We have nothing planned for this week anyway."
"Call if sothing happens, okay?" Hyerin said. "And don’t leave the house."
"Sure." Averie waved them off. "Don’t drink too much, and don’t leave with suspicious guys."
Muttering ’Sure, Mom,’ and ’Don’t wait for us,’ the girls left for their night out.
Averie went back into his apartnt and closed the door.
The smile on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a cold, unempathetic countenance.
Tonight was the night.
He went into the shower and took a long bath.
After drying himself, oddly enough, he wore his gloves first.
He put on his underwear, a black undershirt, a plain black shirt over it, black dress pants, and black leather shoes. On top of that, he also put on a black hoodie.
The night was cold, but that was not why Averie covered himself so thoroughly.
The undershirt was to soak his sweat, while the other things would serve to distract and tease his adversaries.
If sothing went wrong, there was going to be a lot of exercising tonight.
On the nearby desk were three cheap body sprays he had recently asked Min-Ha to buy from a small struggling store.
He wiped them with alcohol wipes and placed them in his pockets.
He put on his mask, a cap, and sunglasses.
By the ti he locked the door and left the apartnt, it was past midnight.
The streets were empty, and the stores were closed. But Averie did not take any chances.
He chose the route that took him through the unclean back alleys.
There, he sprayed himself with the first body spray.
It slled of citrus.
With his face covered, Averie walked through the black alleys. The holess looked at him everywhere he went. They were like the monsters under children’s beds, always watching.
Here, he removed his cap and gave it away to a man warming himself at a bonfire with his hobo buddies.
The man thanked him and put on the cap.
Making sure that the group noticed his attire and auburn hair, Averie left.
After leaving the back alleys, he crossed the long bridge on the river. Halfway across, he took out the citrus-scented body spray and threw it into the river.
He removed his sunglasses and sprayed himself with the second body spray.
It slled like strawberries.
Once on the other side, he waved down an old taxi.
"Where to?" the driver, a tired man in his forties, asked.
"Mirror Park."
"Near Loret Entertainnt building?"
"Yes."
"The park won’t be open at this hour."
"I know."
The drive there took about thirty-five minutes.
If it were the middle of the day, with all the traffic, it would have taken far longer.
Neither the tired driver nor Averie was in any mood to make small talk. So, the ride felt deathly silent. The only sound was the noise of the air conditioning.
Once or twice, the driver looked into the rear-view mirror. And always, Averie’s amber eyes stared back at him.
It was eerie, but the gravity of his gaze was hypnotizing.
The masked man made an impression on him.
While taking a turn, as the driver’s head faced away from Averie, he sneaked his sunglasses into the backseat pocket of the front passenger seat.
When they had arrived at the destination, Averie paid the man in cash.
"I don’t have the exact change," the man said, showing Averie a QR code. "You can scan and pay online."
Averie shook his head.
"Keep it."
That was a significant amount for a tip.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
Watching the man from the corner of his eyes, Averie left.
The driver watched the mysterious man disappear from his sight. His eyes naturally turned to the note in his hands.
He examined it and noticed sothing special about the serial number.
Its last three digits were 666.
It was the Devil’s symbol.
The man shivered. He decided to go ho early.
Averie, on the other hand, had a long night ahead of him.
He walked into the back alley of a closed restaurant.
He took off his hoodie, wrapped the strawberry-scented body spray in it, and threw it in the bin overflowing with trash.
Looking classy in his black shirt, he sprayed himself with the third body spray.
It slled like dark chocolate.
He climbed over the fence of the closed park and crossed the whole length of it.
In front of him was a high wall connected to the back entrance of Loret Entertainnt.
Averie climbed the nearby tree, jumped onto the empty guard post, and leaped across a five-foot gap.
He hung from the top of the wall for about ten minutes. After a struggle, he managed to climb and get over it.
Finally, he was in the driveway leading to the underground parking lot of the building.
The security cara was watching him.
Averie ran his hands through his hair and looked up at the night sky. It was bright and clear, with a full moon and no stars.
He walked into the parking area with a will to escalate what his enemies had started.
There were multiple caras in the parking area, and many of them were able to capture the masked figure entering the premises.
Uncaring about being recorded, Averie spent the next ten minutes searching the place. After confirming that no one was there, he walked towards a pristine white sedan.
He had seen it in his dream.
’How are you?’ He ran his gloved hand over it. ’I am sorry for what is going to happen tonight.’
Unfortunately, the sports car was not there.
He took out the chocolate-scented body spray and jamd it under the rear wheel of the car.
He got up, tauntingly looked up at the security cara, and hid behind the pillar nearest to the elevator.
’And so begins the hunt.’
