Huifen walked into the room looking a little bit timid, her red hair in the sa bob cut as before, as it shuffled left and right as she walked, her green eyes still shining with that spark of intelligence and grace, though this ti Azrail could catch a full tone of weariness and a sense of being more tired than the last ti they t.
Azrail kept a small to dium level of contact with Huifen, with so talks and ntions here and there, seemingly forming more like a good friendship-like connection. She seed to like it, and it went on well, but it seed to have pressed down the sa problems that Azrail had expected to arrive at Huifen.
’From the reports of ng Yao, the bullying she is facing has gotten a lot worse, not to ntion that her mother is now under more pressure than before, too. Things are not looking that good.’
Azrail mused on the information he had. With Huifen seemingly forming so kind of relationship with Azrail, the other wives and kids are acting up. Huifen’s mother is already well-liked by the Emperor, so things are only turning even worse with more sches and problems all around with Huifen and her mother; nothing is going their way.
Huifen has it worse, with several bullying incidents targeting her, again and again. They all bank on the fact that perhaps the connection is more of Azrail playing with Huifen like a toy than having any genuine care for Huifen, which in a way is true, but Azrail isn’t going to let it show at all.
’She is coming here under the orders of her mother, that I am sure.’
Though it seems Huifen still does not have much idea about her true lineage, and so on. Guess the concubine is playing that one close to the chest.
"It’s nice to et you again, Lord Azrail."
Huifen spoke with a light tone of respect and care as she ca up in front of Azrail, to which Azrail, waving his hand at her, replied.
"Please, how many tis should I tell you to just call Azrail? Take a seat."
Saying so, Azrail pointed at the chair, to which Huifen quickly took a seat, she herself being absorbed into the sofa as she sat down. She looked more like a cute little fox trembling all around as she sat. Though more in question, Huifen does have a more fox-like face, which is slowly beginning to develop over her facial features.
"Here, have so tea to calm your nerves."
Azrail spoke as one of the maids in the room moved and started to pour the tea for Huifen, who quickly accepted it and took small sips. Azrail could see the eyes of Huifen lighting up as she took the light sips. It seems she liked the overall taste.
"So, what brings you here? Or is it that you travelled all this while to get here just to see because you missed ?"
Azrail asked with a teasing tone, making Huifen blush a bit as she took a drink, her eyes falling into a daze, and her whole expression feeling more like it’s failing her as she tried her best to keep herself looking at him. This was when Azrail was suppressing his inner beauty, the one connected to Valencia. His beauty and looks are far beyond what many can handle.
Azrail, just like Valencia, keeps it a little suppressed, enough to make him look like the most stunning look in the lower heaven, but not enough to attack the minds of the people with just charm to turn them into mindless puppets. Azrail doesn’t have the skill for that, but just by unleashing his natural beauty, many will automatically lose their mind and fall into a daze.
The current looks Azrail has is sothing enjoyed by everyone living here. Azrail had suppressed it a lot when he first arrived, though as ti passed, he quickly let more and more leak, which allowed most of his family to adjust to the looks, though even they would take so ti for them to get used to looking at Azrail in any normal way.
So for the poor Huifen, just the natural smile right now was more than enough to get the heart racing up for her, making her feel all lovey-dovey with just a smile. Though other than teasing, Azrail did ask it with a serious intention. After all, Azrail is still staying at Ailin City and hasn’t returned to the capital city yet.
So Huifen had travelled from the capital city to Ailin City just to see him, which is not a small journey. It takes ti to reach here, which ans there are many intentions in the actions.
’Though I can surmise so of them.’
Azrail’s eyes had a twinkle as he ca to understand most of the intentions there. This move is being done mostly by Huifen’s mother, Lady Xia. She wanted to move her child out of the Imperial Palace to sowhere she could be sure that her child would be safe. Azrail could understand the movent due to the information he received from ng Yao.
The battle for power and factions is already heating up within the palace, and as soone who has been trying to increase her power, Lady Xia is at the centre of being attacked, and the best way to take her down will be to target the poor, sweet, and still naive Huifen. It will be quick, brutal, and efficient.
If Xia loses Huifen, she loses the one connection that is forming towards Azrail, the most wanted to et now on the continent, which ans the Emperor will lose any more interest he keeps giving to Xia. It will be a win-win for everyone, so the situation is very dire for Lady Xia and Huifen.
Lady Xia can take care of herself, but it’s different for Huifen. With all such powers keeping an eye, protecting such an innocent and powerless girl won’t be easy, especially one who hasn’t even reached 10 and has not yet determined the talent.
’Normally, it’s taboo to kill off any Imperial family mber who hasn’t reached the age of 10.’
Each Imperial family mber is born talented, so no one, not even the internal activities, is allowed to kill off before their talents are tested. It’s sothing that is strictly implented, but even that seed to be null now, especially with that Emperor on the throne. Crazy activities are his front after all.
’So no one knows her talent, and no one knows what she will be yet.’
Azrail mused on the ideas when Huifen suddenly spoke.
"Um... my mother said to just give you this letter."
Huifen replied as she handed over a letter with the special seal of Lady Xia on it. With a raised eyebrow, Azrail accepted it as he broke the seal on the letter and started to read it. In front of him, Huifen sat like a small rabbit, seemingly uncomfortable with everything around her.
The seal of Lady Xia was intact, untouched, which already told him a great deal. Xia was not careless. She never was. If she had sealed this personally, then every word inside was chosen with intention, weighed and asured.
The parchnt itself was of high quality, the kind used only within the inner circles of the Imperial Palace. The handwriting was elegant too. It was the handwriting of a woman who knew exactly where she stood and how dangerous the ground beneath her feet had beco.
Azrail’s eyes moved slowly across the lines.
