Chapter 75. He Won't Die
"Lady Anya, what is...... this situation?"
The Knight Lady being carried on the girl's back was jolted awake ahead of ti by the non-stop acceleration and lurching.
Tanya turned her head and looked around, finding herself being carried on Anya's back, having already left — in a blaze of sparks and lightning — the Black Mist-filled underground space where they had fought that Abyssal creature. The two of them were now racing at full speed through a narrow mine shaft.
But what shocked her most was the environnt.
Tanya could see that the rock walls on both sides of the mine shaft were shaking and shedding broken rubble and debris, and the billowing coal dust was greatly reducing visibility.
Moreover, the entire mine was trembling, as though it were about to cave in and bury the two of them completely.
"Lady Tanya, you're awake?" Anya turned her head in surprised delight, all while using Flashstep to frantically dodge the rocks falling from the ceiling of the mine shaft.
"Mm...... the battle with the Abyssal creature...... is it over?"
"It's over — this lady's divine might struck true, and a full set of the Starfall Sword Art put that ugly creature to its final death!"
The mont she was asked about her glorious recent performance, the girl's previously rather severe expression couldn't help but color itself with a touch of pride.
"Ah, of course...... Luo Nan also contributed that tiny, negligible little bit of strength." She added it as a supplent.
The girl naturally had not forgotten Luo Nan's earlier act of throwing himself in the way to save her — though she felt she should have been able to dodge on her own......
But Anya still decided to give Luo Nan a small share of the credit for defeating that ugly creature.
"Mr. dillion? Is he not an ordinary person?"
Hearing Anya's words, the Knight Lady was sowhat taken aback. Whether from the rumors in the outside world, or from the experience of traveling together after entering the mine, Tanya had not detected a single trace of anything supernatural about Luo Nan.
Just now in the underground space, due to the Black Mist's sensory interference, both Tanya and Anya had failed to witness Luo Nan and Jeraf's first-tier battle — not until the holy light generated by the burst of those Sealed Purifying Light crystals had pierced through the Black Mist did the two of them receive the signal to join the fight.
As a result, Tanya's understanding of Luo Nan was still at the stage of "wealthy ordinary person, but seemingly not quite matching his reputation."
"Hm?"
Prompted by Tanya, Anya only realized in hindsight that the speed Luo Nan had burst out with when blocking that blow for her, and the supernatural fluctuations of the silver battle garnt he wore — neither could have been achieved by an ordinary person!
He was actually a Supernatural Practitioner?!
'That fellow actually never told
he was a Supernatural Practitioner?'
With that thought, a wave of indignation surged through Anya's heart in an instant.
'He's been hiding it from
this whole ti — that's genuinely infuriating!'
The girl imdiately wanted to tell Tanya the truth and expose Luo Nan's deceptive misdeeds!
But just as the words reached her lips, she hesitated.
'He's been concealing this information the whole ti — does he have so other purpose?'
'If I hadn't been mind-controlled by that Abyssal creature for that one mont, he probably...... would never have revealed his identity as a Supernatural Practitioner?'
'But to save , he had no choice but to actively reveal his strength in front of .'
The girl's brow furrowed slightly. After a mont of hesitation, the words that had been on the tip of her tongue made a 180-degree turn. "Ahaha, that fellow's so loaded — having a few offensive supernatural items on him is pretty normal, right?"
"Mm, that makes sense," Tanya nodded. "Lady Anya, you can set
down — I can walk on my own."
"Hm? Are you sure you're alright? Even though Lady Tanya, your armor is so heavy, it's still relatively effortless for ."
"...... I'm fine."
"Alright then."
With that settled, Anya found a safe spot and set Tanya down from her back.
"Many thanks for Lady Anya's assistance — I will keep it in my heart."
"It was nothing, nothing~" The girl turned her face away and waved her hand.
Anya had never been good at handling other people's warm gratitude.
"Right, Lady Anya — where is Mr. dillion?" Tanya looked around and could not find the person Her Highness Serela had tasked her to keep under close protection.
"That fellow probably has so life-saving item or other — I just searched all through the underground area and didn't see any sign of him, so I estimate he made a run for it ahead of us."
"Don't worry about him for now — that fellow's built like a cockroach, he's incredibly hard to kill!"
Snap—
The rock strata of the mine shaft walls moved like cleanly cut smooth planes — the upper and lower layers shifted and slid in opposite directions.
The entire mine environnt instantly beca even more chaotic.
"Lady Tanya, let's retreat first and talk later!"
Although she did not know what had happened exactly, Anya knew full well that the two of them had to leave the mine — otherwise they would surely be buried alive here!
"Understood."
The two dodged and wove through the gradually collapsing mine shaft, a series of hazardous situations arising throughout, nearly getting flattened into two dinsions on several occasions.
There was no telling how long they ran, nor how many corners they turned, before they finally saw light ahead at the last junction.
It was a sunset red as blood.
Anya dragged Tanya along, cleared several ters in a single bound, and grazed past the massive boulder crashing down from behind.
The mont they ran out of the mine, the orange-red light of dusk fell on the girl's cheeks — that pair of golden eyes gleaming like luminous amber, the chestnut high ponytail blown up by the wind, the stray strands lightly brushing her ears. It was as though ti had frozen in that instant.
"Hah...... that really...... nearly ran
to death."
After escaping from the mine, Anya plopped down on the ground without delay, ignoring the dust, both hands propped against the earth, gasping for breath in great gulps, the fullness bound by her cloth wrapping heaving along with each breath in waves.
"Lady Tanya...... congratulations to us both on making it out."
The girl had originally wanted to take out a Recovery Potion to replenish her strength, only to find that her entire supply had long been cleaned out by Luo Nan below — with no other option, she could only pluck a blade of wild grass and chew it at the corner of her mouth.
Tanya was in considerably better shape than Anya, but she too had expended an enormous amount; she removed her helt, revealing close-cropped golden hair and a pair of limpid eyes calm as a lake, with ripples stirring within.
"And Mr. dillion?" Tanya bore in mind at all tis the mission that Her Highness Serela had assigned to her.
Anya chewed her wild grass and stood back up, scanning all around. "That's strange — where did that fellow run off to? He ca out without waiting for us?"
The girl placed both hands on her hips, walked to the carriage the group had arrived in, searched the inside, the roof, and the undercarriage from top to bottom — but still found no trace of Luo Nan.
"The carriage is still here — he couldn't have left on foot......"
"But there's no sign of him anywhere. Could it be that......"
A flicker of panic crossed those beautiful golden eyes. She did not dare let herself think of that possibility.
"Surely not? That fellow had his chest run through and didn't even die...... how could he sink here in this little ditch?"
"Lady Anya, look!" A hint of alarm threaded through Tanya's voice.
The girl followed the sound and looked — the Listone Mine Shaft behind them had completely caved in, with countless stone walls collapsing contrary to their natural direction, falling inward toward the center, forming a massive basin-like depression.
But that was not even the most significant thing.
Above the basin ford by the collapse, space spread out in cracks like a shattered mirror's surface, and in so of the gaps, a pitch-black that made one's soul tremble was on the verge of seeping through.
The girl's cherry lips parted slightly, and the wild grass she had been chewing fell away.
"What on earth happened down there?"
