Ch.35 Malicious Bidding?
The night was starry, and the twin moon deities had already completed more than half of their patrol across the sky of the Estherya Continent.
“This is so boring… When does the next batch of scales go up for auction?”
Luo Nan sat in a corner of the temporary auction hall, his eyes slightly glazed over as he watched this intricate auction filled with deceit and manipulation. He gently touched the black gold credit card tucked inside his chest.
Sigh… It’s all because of this cold-hearted Faras that I can’t experience the fiery enthusiasm of others.
“Next lot,” Auctioneer Leli once again lifted a small crystal vial, within which a faintly iridescent scale shimred brilliantly under the lights.
“Oh? This ti there are two?”
Reinvigorated, Luo Nan’s gaze swept over the vial in the auctioneer’s hand, settling on the two floating scales within.
“I’ll take them. These two, combined with the one I already have, will be enough to craft that item—and still leave
with one extra as backup.”
“Ladies and gentlen, I believe everyone here is already familiar with this item,” Auctioneer Leli cleared his throat and continued: “Without further ado, the auction item today is two scales from the corner of a rmaid’s eye. Starting bid: 2 gold Faras!”
As soon as the auctioneer finished speaking, the entire auction hall fell into silence.
“Huh? Why isn’t that bandage-faced guy bidding right away this ti?” Luo Nan turned his head sideways and saw the bandage-faced man slumped listlessly against his chair, looking utterly uninterested, lost in thought.
“Besides , only he has any real need for these scales. Is he short on cash? Or is he deliberately avoiding ?”
Actually, Luo Nan didn’t want to be the first to bid—bidding too early made him look like a fool, but bidding too low… would tarnish his reputation as a wealthy, spoiled, ruthless young master.
“Whatever. Since no one else is bidding, I might as well step in—and save a little if I can.”
“Two Faras and ten Surs.”
Luo Nan raised his bidding paddle and offered his price.
“Three Faras!”
No sooner had Luo Nan spoken than another voice echoed through the auction hall.
“So, he changed tactics?”
Following the sound, there was no surprise—it was the bandage-faced man in the opposite corner.
“Although raising the bid by ninety Surs all at once is quite steep for a scale’s price, and might have intimidated an ordinary opponent into submission, you’re dealing with Luo Nan von dillion!”
“How could I possibly let soone outshine
in sheer audacity?”
Feeling Luo Nan’s stare, the bandage-faced man glared back—but this ti, his golden eyes no longer held their forr kindness; instead, they blazed with determination!
“Ten Faras.”
After the bandage-faced man shouted his bid, Luo Nan paused briefly before delivering his second offer.
Ten Faras!
Is this guy really that rich!?
Is it really worth it to spend so much on such a useless, diocre material?
And haven’t you already bought one batch? Why are you still competing with ?
At this thought, Anya’s expression instantly darkened. She glanced sideways at the man wearing the golden raven-beak mask, finding him more and more irritating.
That figure… was just as unpleasant to her as Luo Nan dillion!
“Damn rich people—they’re all the sa!”
The girl rubbed the white cloth wrapped around her face, her thoughts beginning to stir…
“Fifteen Faras.”
“Oh? So he actually has that much lying around?”
“No, wait—the voice is different. A new bidder?”
A short, dwarf-like figure clad in a black-and-red hooded robe, wearing a smiling mask, raised his bidding paddle and announced his bid in a calm tone.
Noticing Luo Nan’s gaze upon him, the smiling-masked dwarf gave him a slight nod.
“Is this dwarf genuinely in need of the scales? If so, why didn’t he bid during the first round?” Luo Nan pondered carefully.
“In this new-style auction organized by Hulos Exchange, if he truly desired the scales, he should have imdiately raised the price during the first round to reduce competition in this round.”
“He definitely doesn’t know I possess a black gold credit card, nor does he know my identity,” Luo Nan continued organizing his thoughts. “If he knew I owned a black gold card, he’d never dare challenge
financially. Moreover, my mask is specially crafted—no one below fifth-tier legend rank could possibly see through it…”
“And he’s a fifth-tier? Impossible. A true fifth-tier legend wouldn’t co to this lower district black market. Besides, every legend is a renowned figure across the continent.”
“Wait… I get it now… I understand…”
After a mont of reflection, Luo Nan arrived at the most plausible conclusion, and a faint smile slowly spread across his face. “Your little sche is going to fail.”
Thinking this, Luo Nan raised his paddle again and casually added:
“Twenty Faras.”
Upon hearing Luo Nan’s bid, the smiling dwarf fell silent.
“Twenty Faras once.”
“Twenty Faras twice.”
Auctioneer Leli paused montarily, raising his black walnut gavel high, about to bring it down.
“Twenty-five… no, twenty-three Faras! Twenty-three gold Faras!”
Just as the auctioneer was about to strike the gavel, the smiling dwarf finally raised his paddle—but Luo Nan noticed his voice trembled slightly. Reaching this price clearly took imnse resolve.
“You’re trying to trick ? Hmph… Fine. I’ve got plenty of capital to play with you.”
“Twenty-three Faras once.”
“Twenty-three Faras twice.”
Auctioneer Leli raised his gavel again.
Luo Nan remained calm, watching the smiling dwarf with relaxed amusent just a short distance away.
“If I don’t bid anymore… will you regret it?”
Sure enough, though the dwarf showed no outward reaction, Luo Nan could tell his tightly tensed body betrayed his inner turmoil.
“Forty Faras.”
At that mont, Luo Nan delivered his next bid.
“Hmm… Although I’d love to see the look on his face when he shoots himself in the foot, my own matters are more important. I can always play gas with him later during other auctions.”
When Luo Nan declared ‘Forty Faras’, the dwarf’s rigid posture instantly relaxed—as if he had just won a gamble.
In the end, Luo Nan secured the second batch of ‘scales from the corner of a rmaid’s eye’ for forty gold Faras, without any surprise.
“Main task accomplished. Now… let’s have so fun with that dwarf.”
As each item found its buyer, the atmosphere in the temporary auction hall gradually grew hotter.
“Alright, ladies and gentlen… Now let us proceed to the final treasure of tonight’s auction.” As he spoke, Auctioneer Leli stepped aside slightly, making space for the staff bringing in the next item.
A large, rectangular object covered in red velvet was carried onto the stage. Leli turned and grasped one corner of the velvet cloth.
Whoosh—
As the velvet slid away, the finale of tonight’s auction was finally revealed to all.
“As you can see, this is the residue of divine observation—sealed and insulated by multiple layers of enchantnts.”
