Ch.12 Spit It Out

Luo Nan’s expression turned grave as he carefully sensed the loss of power within his body.

“What’s going on?”

Luo Nan frantically recalled various settings from ‘The Shining Myriad Trails’ and his lifelong understanding of the supernatural, attempting to locate the source of the problem.

“Mm… impossible! This can’t be!”

Although his lifelong mories held no answers, a certain setting from ‘The Shining Myriad Trails’ pointed him toward one possibility—

The Abyss.

Yes, only the Abyss—or rather, one of the Abyss’s Great Lords—possessed the ability to completely absorb his power.

“Damn it, is this related to an evil god!?”

Luo Nan was certain he had never contacted an evil god—or any dium of an evil god.

After all, the followers of those goddesses—the Dawn Church, one of the continent’s three great powers—explicitly forbade humans from contacting the Abyssal evil gods!

Even as a noble of the Osoke Empire, capable of defying the Church’s judgnt knights, he had no reason to contact the Abyssal evil gods!

Moreover, those Abyssal Great Lords should look down upon a re first-tier novice like him, right?

Didn’t they prefer to fleece the wool off Legends or even Demigods!?

“This is bad.”

Pacing back and forth in the training chamber, Luo Nan racked his brains, trying to find a solution.

“In ‘The Shining Myriad Trails’, descriptions of the Abyssal Great Lords are sparse. Like the luminous divine system headed by the Dawn Goddess, they rely serve as the world view’s foundation and story backdrop.”

“This results in their information having little reference value. The ga didn’t even fully provide the images and nas of the seven Abyssal Great Lords.”

Thinking this, Luo Nan sucked in a cold breath.

“Surely not…”

Luo Nan regretted not purchasing the art and world view setting collection for ‘The Shining Myriad Trails’. In his previous life, he’d heard that so of the ga’s loose-ended settings were fully elaborated in the setting collection.

“I need to confirm this again.”

Thinking this, Luo Nan once more began practicing the Seventeen Forms of Body Tempering, but this ti he paid close attention, carefully sensing the flow of the battle aura generated within his body.

“Just as I thought!” After re-running the Seventeen Forms once, Luo Nan discovered where the battle aura was disappearing.

“It’s flowing toward that ‘point’ left within my body!”

Previously, he had broken through his ‘supernatural insulator’ condition thanks to the pure black stone engraved with an iridescent spiral tree pattern, gifted by Duke dillion.

After contacting that stone, aside from the phenona and concepts he couldn’t comprehend, what remained in his mory was only that ‘point’ symbolizing his desire, and the universe-piercing iridescent spiral tree after touching the ‘point’.

“The point and the tree—there should be a causal relationship between these two.” Luo Nan stroked his chin and pondered: “If all the battle aura I generate flows into the ‘point,’ does that an…”

“My power is being absorbed by that tree?”

Reaching this conclusion, Luo Nan’s gaze sharpened. He didn’t know what that tree was, nor by what ans it absorbed his power.

But he was certain that any existence capable of such a thod must surpass the Demigod tier!

It—or rather, ‘He/She’—what was His/Her purpose?

“Trouble—I currently know nothing about that tree.” Luo Nan scratched his black hair, feeling utterly at a loss.

“Even one of those Abyssal Great Lords who appeared in the ga would be better—at least I’d have so understanding of Them and know the direction for a solution, unlike now, floundering like a headless fly.”

“On the bright side, perhaps that tree is so ancient-era deity? I recall the World Tree in elven mythology is a giant tree piercing heaven and earth, right?”

“Mm, just daydreaming won’t help. I need to try whether I can re-enter that starry sky of the tree through the ‘point.’”

Acting on impulse, Luo Nan carefully recalled the sensation of touching the ‘point’ after initially contacting that stone.

Swish…

Still the sound of clear springs flowing, birds singing, the March breeze bringing the fragrance of flower stans, and the apes in the trees stepping onto the ground for the first ti…

Yes, this was the feeling!

Buzz—

When Luo Nan opened his eyes, the universe-piercing iridescent spiral tree appeared prominently before him.

Luo Nan looked around and found himself floating in boundless starry space. In the distance lay magnificent galaxies, countless stars dotting the heavens like an ocean.

He was certain he had contacted this infinite tree through that ‘point’ with his consciousness.

“Um… Tree Mister?”

Luo Nan softly called out to the tree residing at the center of the universe, attempting to elicit a response.

“Tree Miss?”

“…”

“Well, another aloof one.”

Receiving no response, Luo Nan moved his limbs, attempting to swim through the starry sky.

“I don’t know how far I am from that tree, nor whether I can swim over to touch it. Might as well try.”

With this thought, Luo Nan’s body seed to defy the law of conservation of montum, drifting toward the iridescent spiral tree at the center of the universe.

“Well, since I’m in a conscious state—or rather, a soul state—not obeying physical laws is perfectly normal, right?”

[Stop.]

Huh?

[Stop!]

Wait…

[Luo Nan, stop imdiately!]

The familiar voice exploded once more in his mind. Luo Nan instinctively obeyed its instruction.

But he realized he wasn’t approaching the tree—

The tree was approaching him!

In this starry sky, lacking reference points, Luo Nan actually didn’t know whether he was moving.

The distant galaxies resembled eternal, unchanging murals, and the infinite tree at the center had never shown any movent.

Yet Luo Nan could feel—the central tree was indeed ‘walking’ toward him.

This was a certain ‘instinctive perception’ originating from the depths of his soul.

[Luo Nan, suppress the desire in your heart to touch that tree!]

“Damn, how do you know?”

With no ti to think further, Luo Nan attempted to calm his mind and suppress the urge to ‘touch that tree’.

“Damn it, I can’t calm down!”

“Black stockings, white stockings, gray stockings, flesh-colored stockings, huge breasts, small breasts, A to G cups, black long straight hair, big wavy hair, white hair, white hair…”

Temporarily at a loss for what to do, Luo Nan could only think of so universally enjoyed topics to distract himself.

Admittedly, although this thod was sowhat disgraceful, it was indeed effective.

Sure enough, when Luo Nan’s mind was filled with his hobbies, the tree at the center of the universe finally halted its steps.

“Phew…” Luo Nan wiped the nonexistent sweat from his forehead and breathed a sigh of relief. “Good, it’s stopped.”

“By the way, Cheat Device Miss, was my power absorbed by that tree?”

[…]

“Cheat Device Miss?”

[…]

“Not responding again? Then I have no choice—I’ll have to personally ask the tree.”

[Yes.]

“Black stockings, white stockings, huge breasts, small breasts…”

Once again suppressing his inner desire through flights of imagination, Luo Nan revealed a smile.

“You could’ve just answered

like this earlier. I know you possess agency—after all, it was you who initially reminded

to dodge the assassination.”

“Not to sound rude, Cheat Device Miss, but what… exactly are you?”

[…]

“Not answering again? I…”

[Cannot be spoken.]

“Mm, fine. I’ll ask sothing else. What are ‘worldline deviation’ and ‘predetermined fate’?”

[Cannot be spoken.]

“What do you an, this cannot be spoken, that cannot be spoken? Then I’ll ask you—are you my cheat device?”

[…Yes?]

Huh?

Why does this Cheat Device Miss sound uncertain?

“Then do you know that I possess mories of the future?”

[I know.]

“Then…”

[Do not ask further. Regarding information about you, I cannot disclose anything.]

“Uh, fine.”

Luo Nan shrugged. He knew all along that his awakening of previous-life mories wouldn’t be so easily explained.

“I’ll just ask what I can. Regarding the battle aura I cultivated, do you have any way to make that tree spit it out? I’ve worked so hard to enter the supernatural realm—I don’t want to be making a wedding dress for soone else.”

Returning to the main topic, what Luo Nan most urgently wanted to know now was his power, swallowed by that tree!

[Naturally. Recall the scene of your first contact with Him. Reconstruct your desire.]

“The first… scene of contact?”

Luo Nan carefully recalled the scene of his previous contact with the ‘tree’. He rembered that at the ti, he was intensely eager to beco supernatural and had touched one of the twigs lowered by the tree.

“Mm, I understand.”

I want… to reclaim my power!

Luo Nan closed his eyes and instinctively extended his right hand toward the direction of the tree.

Swish…

Beneath the infinite canopy, an infinitesimal fraction of an iridescent branch seed to resonate with him, entwining itself with Luo Nan’s right hand.

Hiss—

An ineffable instant passed in a flash. When Luo Nan opened his eyes again, he felt his entire body brimming with power.

“My battle aura—it’s back!”

[Thus, your power can be retrieved from Him without delay, or stored.]

Oh?

Listening to Cheat Device Miss’s explanation, Luo Nan’s thoughts stirred. He ceased controlling the flow of his battle aura.

Sure enough, once he relinquished control, the surrounding battle aura once again flowed toward the ‘point’ within his body.

“My power, return!”

After his power was fully drained, Luo Nan followed his previous thod—touching the ‘point’ and silently voicing his desire before the ‘tree’.

Boom—

Instantly, power returned to his body.

“I understand how to use it! But… Cheat Device Miss, why did this situation arise?”

[To alter predetermined fate, special ans are naturally required.]

“Predetermined fate?” Luo Nan paused, then imdiately realized, “My predetermined fate… is to be a ‘supernatural insulator,’ only able to walk the path of the supernatural after fully defecting to the demons and transforming into a demonic being?”

[Precisely so.]

“And now, I haven’t defected to the demons and am still in a human body. Therefore, this thod is used to mitigate the impact on ‘predetermined fate’?”

[Yes.]

“Ha, I knew it—I’m just a villain. How could I be like the protagonist, soaring to the heavens with a single miraculous encounter?”

“In that case, it ans that ordinarily, I’m just an ordinary person who hasn’t entered the supernatural realm. Only when I ‘want to’ can I beco a supernatural practitioner?”

[Yes.]

“What about cultivation?”
