It ant that the city was nearer now. After one hour, they were finally able to see the city.

It wasn’t much bigger, but it was totally situated in a different environnt. A river was passing just in front of it.

The traffic was far more than the border cities, but most of the people seed mortals. rchant wagons were coming out of the city, so going left, so right, and so coming in their direction.

Just as they were walking, Jiang Hao felt a gaze on him. He didn’t stop or show any reaction to it. The gaze was non-hostile, so he just maintained his pace.

"Senior, what do you think?" Jiang Hao was sure that she had felt the gaze too. It was impossible to hide from soone who could even read the mysteries of fate.

"Hmm... what do you think I think?" Yao Ying looked at the city for a second, then beckoned him to co closer.

Jiang Hao obliged. From now on, he would try not to think about the fact that they were fated. He would try to act as normal as he could.

He ca close enough to be touched by hand’s distance, and that’s what Yao Ying did—she touched his forehead.

"Look at the city now"

Jiang Hao turned around and got stunned. He could see a lot of dark red threads coming out of the city. The whole city seed to be covered in a gloom that could not be seen with the naked eye.

"What you are looking at is misfortune, or ill on... whatever you want to call it. Those red threads denote the people who will die in a week. So will die today and so will tomorrow, but in a week all will be dead.

All in all, this whole city seems to be the target of a bigger plan.

Now the question is, what do you want to do? I doubt you were going to stay here for the whole week. So what choice will you make? Leave after so ti like we are supposed to, or save it?"

Jiang Hao was a little stunned. Instead of answering the question, he asked sothing else.

"Senior, did this happen because we have arrived here? Because... isn’t it too much of a coincidence?"

Yao Ying shook her head. "Not really. All those dark red threads belong to mortals. The city is in misfortune, but it won’t get destroyed.

Even if this many mortals die in a week, it won’t affect the city.

So maybe this has been happening for far longer. It really doesn’t seem like sothing affected by our arrival.

That’s why I said... this city is part of a bigger plan. Seems like soone is using it as a resource for cultivation."

Jiang Hao understood what she was implying. He also caught on her last sentence. No doubt this was done by an evil cultivator. Only they needed large quantities of blood and organs of humans for cultivation.

And targeting a city was the best choice. Maybe most of the cities were going through the sa process. There was definitely an evil sect nearby.

Now it was also given that the person who was watching them was definitely soone who was keeping an eye on everyone who visited the city.

As for the point of him saving the city, he didn’t care. As long as they didn’t get in his way, he had no intention of stopping them. There was no point in it.

He might save this city today by killing the cultivators, but in the future, again so cultivators would co here for the sa purpose.

"I have no intention of interfering, Senior," he said truthfully.

Yao Ying nodded. She didn’t care either. She had seen far worse situations than this. That’s how every world worked. If you were weak, then you were prey. Mortal or not didn’t matter.

Since the Heavens themselves had made it this way, then she, as an inhabitant, didn’t need to worry about it either. She had always lived on her whims and desires.

If she wanted to save soone, she would do so. If not, then she wouldn’t.

Finally, both of them reached the bridge which led to the city. It wasn’t too wide—barely two rchant convoys could pass together. One side of the area was covered by the people who were coming out from the city, while the other side was going in.

They joined the line of people going inside. Since there was only a small passage for entry, the movent was very slow. The only good point was that no rchant convoys were entering the city, as it was still morning and most of them hadn’t made it here.

"Move aside..." A jarring voice echoed from behind. Jiang Hao didn’t look behind. He already knew what was happening.

Most of the people behind them in the line had stepped aside to let a carriage pass. The people seed afraid of this particular carriage.

Right now, the carriage had stopped just behind them. It was given, since they didn’t move away, nor did he have any intention to move either.

"Are you both deaf? I SAID MOVE ASIDE...."

The carriage handler spoke again, this ti with a louder pitch.

Jiang Hao and Yao Ying didn’t react again. They moved slowly towards the bridge. The eyes of the handler squinted and he whipped the horse, making it move.

"Die, you lowly mortals—" His words got stuck as his head left his neck, along with the head of the horse. The sword qi didn’t move further and dissipated after killing both.

Jiang Hao didn’t even look back and put his sword back in his storage bag.

People were stunned. They couldn’t believe their eyes right now. They weren’t able to see when Jiang Hao took out the sword and killed the handler and the horse.

But the real reason they were shocked was because this carriage was from the Ling Clan. Even if you were a cultivator, you shouldn’t ss with a clan so blatantly.

The strength of the Ling Clan wasn’t weaker than any small sect. They were a very well-known clan in Zhu Kingdom for a reason.

They looked at Jiang Hao and Yao Ying as dead people walking.

The doors of the carriage opened and a bulky man ca out of it. Two won followed him. They looked disheveled and it certainly wasn’t because the horse fell down.

The bulky man looked at the dead bodies and then at Jiang Hao while seething in anger.

"How dare you..." He only said that before stopping. In his eyes, Jiang Hao and Yao Ying looked like mortals, but that was impossible.

Killing his handler, who was at the seventh stage of Qi Refinent realm while being a mortal, was impossible. So, it only ant one thing— that these two were far stronger than him.
