Shen Yu had never pursued a boy before and didn't know how to start a conversation with Zhou Yuwen. After much hesitation, she typed "Are you there?" in the chat box but deleted it imdiately after hearing Zheng Yanyan’s remark.

Zheng Yanyan seed to take pride in the boys chasing her, constantly chatting with Lu Lin about how these boys lacked creativity in their attempts.

"Hey, what do you talk about with Zhou Yuwen?" Zheng Yanyan asked, peeking over the edge of her bed with a smile.

"None of your business," Su Qing replied coldly.

"Che, stingy."

Su Qing was indeed chatting with Zhou Yuwen and did so confidently. They had an entire lifeti of shared experiences, which naturally gave her confidence.

On the other hand, Shen Yu felt nervous and cautious when dealing with Zhou Yuwen. After much deliberation, she shared a song with him, another track by Wang Fei titled "Because of Love." She put on her headphones to listen as well.

As the soothing lody began to play:

"Here's a CD of our past love?? Listen, that's our love story??"

Shen Yu loved Wang Fei's songs, from "Red Bean" to "Because of Love." She thought of this song because Zhou Yuwen had sung "Red Bean" so well at the KTV earlier.

"This song is really nice too," Shen Yu ssaged Zhou Yuwen.

"Do you want to go to KTV and sing it together next ti?" Zhou Yuwen replied almost instantly. He was already chatting with Su Qing, so replying to Shen Yu was easy.

Thinking about singing "Because of Love" together next ti? The quick response made Shen Yu’s heart flutter. Listening to the song's slow, soothing music relaxed her and let her imagination run wild.

"Yes! I love Wang Fei's songs, but I rarely go to KTV, so I can't sing them well," she replied.

Zhou Yuwen reassured her that practice would improve her singing. "I like Wang Fei too."

They discussed going to KTV to practice singing together. Shen Yu admitted she felt shy singing in front of a crowd. Zhou Yuwen suggested, "Then maybe next ti, just the two of us can go to practice?"

"Just the two of us?" Shen Yu's face flushed, feeling a bit dizzy.

"Is that a problem?"

"No, not at all," she replied, adding a cute emoji.

As the song played softly in her headphones, Shen Yu lay in bed, placing her phone on her chest, listening to the music, and staring at the ceiling. A smile crept across her face.

It was already midnight, and the dorm lights were off, but no one was asleep. Each bed had a faint glow from a phone screen.

Zheng Yanyan was restless, despite having received many ssages from Chang Hao. She muttered, "So bored."

"I'm a bit hungry."

No one responded.

"Lu Lin?"

"Yes?"

"Are you still chatting with your Qiang?"

"He's your Qiang."

"Ha ha, I don’t want him."

"I stopped chatting with him."

"So what are you doing?"

"Sleeping."

"Talking in your sleep?"

"Dream talk."

"Ha, are you chatting with Zhou Yuwen?" Zheng Yanyan teased.

Both Su Qing and Shen Yu glanced at Zheng Yanyan, while Lu Lin, without looking up, said, "You’re crazy."

"Hee hee, but I'm really chatting with Zhou Yuwen," Zheng Yanyan said, lying on her bed and wiggling her toes.

The other girls ignored her.

"I an it," she insisted.

"Hey, I’m telling you, Zhou Yuwen touched my chest at the KTV earlier."

"Zheng Yanyan, enough already," Su Qing said impatiently.

"I'm serious..."

"Can you just be quiet for a bit?"

For once, Shen Yu and Su Qing were on the sa side. Shen Yu suggested they sleep early since they had military training the next day.

"Fine, believe it or not," Zheng Yanyan pouted. "Just wait, I’ll win Zhou Yuwen over."

Again, no one paid her any attention.

Only Chang Hao continued to chat with her persistently.

"Yanyan, how did you think I did today?" he ssaged, adding a grinning emoji.

Bored, Zheng Yanyan replied, chatting briefly with him. Then Chang Hao asked, "Li Qiang wants to know how Lu Lin feels about him."

"What do you think?" Zheng Yanyan asked back.

"Heh, I don’t think he has a chance. Lu Lin’s not the type to be interested in a guy like him. He’s taking it too seriously, ha ha!" Chang Hao replied, grinning on his bed.

"What do you an she’s not a good girl?" Zheng Yanyan felt a bit of guilty pleasure hearing Lu Lin badmouthed.

"She smokes. How can she be a good girl?"

"Don’t you smoke too?"

"Heh, I'm a guy. It's normal for ."

"Ugh, I hate chauvinists."

"No way! I may be chauvinistic, but I love and cherish my wife, really," Chang Hao insisted.

"Go find a wife, then."

"Don’t be like that, Yanyan. You know how I feel," Chang Hao pressed on.

Zheng Yanyan ignored his hint and suddenly asked, "What’s Zhou Yuwen up to?"

"Huh?" The sudden change of topic caught Chang Hao off guard.

At that mont, Lu Lin climbed down from her bed.

"Where are you going?" Zheng Yanyan asked.

"To get so fresh air," Lu Lin replied.

Lu Lin, dressed in a black cropped camisole and matching black shorts, went to the balcony and lit a cigarette.

"Smoking again," Zheng Yanyan muttered, seeing the flicker of light from the balcony.

The campus was quiet in the early hours, with the square in front of the dorm empty except for a few streetlights. Lu Lin leaned on the railing, one hand supporting her elbow, smoking quietly.

Chang Hao's earlier analysis wasn't entirely wrong. Lu Lin indeed carried her own burdens. She exhaled a smoke ring, which quickly dispersed in the night wind.

The image of Zhou Yuwen casually pulling out thousands of yuan captivated her more than anything else. Her phone buzzed with ssages from Li Qiang, but she ignored them.

Instead, she opened Chang Hao’s chat.

"Are you awake?"

Chang Hao was busy chatting with Zheng Yanyan but was startled by the new ssage. Why was Lu Lin texting him at this hour? The thought made him smile.

Surely, no girl could like Li Qiang, he thought. It seed Lu Lin preferred him. But he was interested in Zheng Yanyan, creating a dilemma.

"Not yet. What's up?" he replied, guessing Lu Lin felt a connection with him because they both smoked.

"Can you send

Zhou Yuwen’s WeChat?" Lu Lin didn’t beat around the bush. She thought Chang Hao was alright, as he seed genuine when smoking, so she was straightforward.
