"Wait, Yanyan, I'm taking you out to eat, so why does it matter if Zhou Yuwen is happy? I thought you didn't like him?" Chang Hao felt uncomfortable hearing another guy's na from the girl he liked.
"I don't like him, but soone in our dorm does," Zheng Yanyan replied, sending an emoji that conveyed, "How are you so dense?"
Chang Hao finally understood. "Oh, you're talking about Su Qing, right?"
Zheng Yanyan didn't waste ti explaining. She directly told him that the dorm-to-dorm etup was organized for Zhou Yuwen and Su Qing. If he wanted to pursue her, he needed to bring Zhou Yuwen on board.
Chang Hao felt the task was difficult. "But Zhou doesn't like Su Qing. And he and his high school classmate seem to like each other. Yanyan, there's a saying, 'It's better to destroy ten temples than to ruin one relationship.'"
Despite his feelings for Yanyan, Chang Hao still cared about his friend's well-being.
"I don't care. I'm determined to help Su Qing. If Zhou Yuwen and Su Qing don't work out, then forget about us," Yanyan stated firmly.
Chang Hao felt cornered. Zheng Yanyan was being unreasonable, insisting that if Zhou Yuwen didn't co to the etup, it wouldn't happen.
"Our dorm doesn't mind either way," she added before cutting off the conversation.
Chang Hao felt troubled, staying silent. Li Qiang, aware of the dorm-to-dorm etup plan, was eager. Although Yanyan and Su Qing were spoken for, there was still Shen Yu, the fair-skinned Jiangnan girl.
Li Qiang imagined himself possibly winning over Shen Yu and felt excited. He eagerly asked, "How'd it go, Brother Hao? Did you set it up?"
Chang Hao, quick to react, covered his phone and snapped, "Why do you always snoop on other people's conversations? What kind of hobby is that?"
"You weren't talking about anything secret. Weren't we planning a etup? How did it go?" Li Qiang was only interested in the etup.
"It's set. We're going to Toronto," Chang Hao replied.
"Toronto? Where's that?" Li Qiang was curious.
"You don't even know Toronto?" Chang Hao couldn't help but scoff.
Li Qiang's face fell, but Chang Hao didn't notice. Instead, he turned to Zhou Yuwen. "Hey, Zhou, how about we go to Toronto for dinner tomorrow night?"
"No," Zhou Yuwen replied bluntly, surprising Chang Hao.
"What? Why not?"
"It's too expensive and the food isn't great," Zhou Yuwen said, having handed his work to Li Shiqi. He started to pack up his computer and prepare for bed. Reflecting on his previous life, he knew that military training would start early the next morning with an assembly at 6:30 AM, followed by a long speech from the school leaders and weeks of grueling exercises. The thought made him regret being reborn.
"Co on, Zhou, the food is secondary. This is our first dorm etup. If you don't co, it'll feel incomplete," Chang Hao pleaded, knowing the etup would fall apart without Zhou Yuwen.
"I don't fit in anyway," Zhou Yuwen replied, already in bed. He resented the implication that he wasn't a team player.
In his previous life, he had fit in perfectly, playing gas with Chang Hao for three years, only to earn a asly five thousand yuan a month while Chang Hao landed a high-paying job in Beijing with ease. Often, Chang Hao would complain about his boring job while casually ntioning collecting rent for his parents.
In college, Zhou Yuwen had often mocked Chang Hao as the biggest sycophant in Jinling, always pining for Zheng Yanyan. Yet, this hadn't stopped Chang Hao from marrying a rich and beautiful woman after graduation. It was a stark reminder not to overvalue dorm relationships; social hierarchies beco apparent in the real world.
Zhou Yuwen turned over and smiled at Chang Hao, saying, "You can invite , and I'll consider it."
Chang Hao, opening his mouth, felt cornered. "But, man, you're the campus card agent..."
"Then I won't go."
"Fine, fine, I'll treat you!" Chang Hao relented.
"Thanks, Chang!" Zhou Yuwen chuckled, turning over.
"Damn!" Chang Hao flipped him off, annoyed that Zhou Yuwen, despite being wealthy, insisted on making him pay.
Chang Hao had planned to cover the four girls' expenses, and now adding Zhou Yuwen ant at least six hundred yuan. Feeling the financial strain, he realized he'd need to ask his parents for more money.
As Chang Hao worried over finances, Li Qiang, seeing he wasn't being involved, approached. "Hey, Brother Hao, I feel bad you're covering the dorm's first al."
"What? No way! I'm only paying for Zhou!" Chang Hao retorted.
"No way! Brother Hao, you're being stingy? If you're like that, I'm not going either!" Li Qiang exclaid.
"?"
Chang Hao, taken aback, glanced at Li Qiang.
"Oh." With that, Chang Hao left the dorm to ask his parents for money, ignoring Li Qiang.
Li Qiang, left behind, felt awkward. Fortunately, Zhou Yuwen and Lu Yuhang were already in bed, likely not having heard his outburst.
Annoyed by Chang Hao's attitude, Li Qiang approached Lu Yuhang's bed and tapped the fra.
"Yuhang, are you asleep?"
