The delivery was handed over by the building’s property manager, Huang Xiaoyuan.
Liu Yue, the delivery girl, knew the order was placed by Zhou Yuwen because his na was clearly listed. She also knew he lived in the upscale Lanting residential area—not exactly a secret.
Though Liu Yue claid to have grown up in Beijing, this was her first ti visiting such a high-end neighborhood. The elaborate registration process at the entrance, combined with the stunning landscaping and luxurious design of the area, left her awestruck.
"So, this is where rich people live? It’s beautiful. If only I could live in a place like this."
Finally, following the directions, she reached Zhou Yuwen’s building. She assud she’d simply take the elevator to deliver the food, just like with other orders.
But as soon as she entered, a tall and slim woman in a grey professional suit stopped her.
“Who are you looking for?” the woman asked.
Caught off guard, Liu Yue stamred, “I... I’m here to deliver food.”
The woman, none other than Huang Xiaoyuan, examined Liu Yue’s appearance, then glanced at the order details before speaking again.
“It’s indeed for one of our residents. I’ll take it from here.”
“Uh, what?”
“I’m the property manager for this building. I’ll deliver it to the resident.”
“Oh... okay.” Liu Yue was unfamiliar with the concept of a property manager and found it intriguing. Before she could protest or explain that she was a classmate of the resident, Huang Xiaoyuan had already taken the bag from her hands.
Liu Yue hesitated briefly, wanting to say sothing but ultimately choosing not to.
She lingered for a mont, but the implication was clear—her task was done, and she was expected to leave.
Walking out of the neighborhood, Liu Yue couldn’t help but marvel at her experience. "This is how the wealthy live," she thought, inspired.
That night, back in her dorm, Liu Yue shared the story with her roommates.
“Guess what? I delivered food to Zhou Yuwen today!”
“Who’s that?” one roommate asked absentmindedly, clearly uninterested in Liu Yue’s excitent about her delivery job.
“Zhou Yuwen! You know, our classmate!” Liu Yue exclaid.
“Oh... okay.”
The lukewarm response didn’t deter Liu Yue. Despite their lack of interest, she animatedly described the lush greenery, luxurious layout, and elegant property manager she’d encountered.
“You guys have no idea!” she said enthusiastically.
Her roommates, Ma Tian and Li Jing, weren’t particularly impressed. Ma Tian even teased, “Aren’t you from Beijing? Haven’t you seen places like this before?”
Blushing, Liu Yue muttered, “Our place isn’t quite like that...”
“Oh.” Ma Tian’s tone carried a hint of sarcasm, which Liu Yue chose to ignore.
Instead, she doubled down on her newfound determination. "I’m going to earn enough money to buy a house like that for myself soday."
Her roommates dismissed her ambition, laughing, “Girls don’t buy houses. Your husband will buy one for you when you get married.”
Liu Yue, undeterred, silently vowed to prove them wrong.
anwhile, Zhou Yuwen had no idea the simple delivery had sparked such aspirations in Liu Yue.
By the ti the food arrived upstairs, Zhou Yuwen didn’t even bother to step out.
As Huang Xiaoyuan handed the food to Zheng Yanyan, the latter gave her a smug look, as if asserting her dominance. "See? I’m the lady of the house!"
“Your food’s here!” Zheng Yanyan called out loudly to Zhou Yuwen, making sure to emphasize their relationship.
Zhou Yuwen replied lazily from inside, “Just bring it in.”
As Zheng Yanyan turned back toward the property manager, she gave her one last haughty glance before shutting the door.
Over dinner, Zheng Yanyan brought up the earlier encounter.
“That property manager downstairs didn’t even look apologetic for blocking
earlier!” she complained.
Zhou Yuwen chuckled. “She’s just doing her job. Let it go.”
“Still, she could’ve at least acted sorry,” Zheng Yanyan muttered, unsatisfied.
After their al, Zhou Yuwen gathered a few unused costics from Yanyan’s makeup stash and placed them in a bag.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“Giving these to the property manager downstairs,” he replied.
“What?! Why would you do that? She wouldn’t let
in earlier!”
“Exactly why I’m doing it,” Zhou Yuwen said. “To smooth things over.”
Hearing that, Yanyan begrudgingly agreed, albeit still grumbling under her breath.
When they reached the lobby, Huang Xiaoyuan greeted them warmly.
“Heading out, Mr. Zhou?”
“Just dropping by,” Zhou Yuwen said, handing her the bag. “So costics we don’t need. Please take them.”
Huang Xiaoyuan hesitated. “I really can’t accept gifts from residents...”
“Take it,” Zhou Yuwen insisted. “You’ve been a great help since I moved in.”
Flustered but pleased, Huang Xiaoyuan finally accepted, thanking him profusely.
Later, as Zhou Yuwen dropped Yanyan back at her dorm, she hugged him tightly.
“I miss you already,” she said with a pout. “Can you co by later tonight?”
“Let’s see,” Zhou Yuwen said, distracted by work.
Yanyan gave him a quick kiss before heading inside, leaving Zhou Yuwen free to focus on his next task.
Opening his phone, Zhou Yuwen scrolled through his contacts until he found Qu Jing’s na.
“Are you there?”
Qu Jing, lounging in her dorm, sat up in surprise when she saw the ssage.
“Y-yes, I’m here! What’s up?” she replied instantly, her heart racing.
“Are you free tonight?”
Qu Jing’s eyes widened. "What does he an by that?!"
Before she could overthink, Zhou Yuwen sent another ssage. “I feel like I owe you an apology. How about I treat you to dinner tonight?”
Qu Jing felt like she was dreaming. Zhou Yuwen... inviting her to dinner?
She responded almost imdiately: “Yes! I’m free! Where should we et?”
“What ti works for you? I’ll pick you up.”
