By now, Zhou Yuwen and Lu Lin had settled into the rhythm of an old married couple. When they got ho, there was no need for elaborate romantic gestures. Like any ordinary couple, they simply went about their own routines.
Lu Lin particularly liked Zhou Yuwen’s spacious apartnt. After all, her dorm at school was cramped, shared with three other girls. There was no comparison to the comfort of a large, airy space. As soon as they got ho, she kicked off her shoes, skipped the slippers, and walked barefoot before hopping onto the couch to play with her phone.
Zhou Yuwen didn’t imdiately join her. He had so work to do—naly, updating his web novel. Heading to the study, he set up a scheduled release.
When he first got reborn, Zhou Yuwen had no money and had relied on writing this novel to build his fortune. Back then, he updated 20,000 words daily, boasting in the comnts section about his speed. Now, after earning over ten million yuan through investnts, he realized that inco from the novel wasn’t directly tied to update frequency. Whether he wrote 20,000 words daily or just 5,000, his monthly earnings didn’t vary significantly—about 40,000 to 70,000 yuan.
With money no longer a concern, Zhou Yuwen adopted a leisurely pace, writing just 5,000 words daily to earn so pocket money. Once the novel amassed enough content, he estimated it would generate two to three million yuan, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier urban fiction writer.
Since he already had the story in his head, writing ca easily. At this point, he had reached the chapter where the protagonist’s friend was introduced to the female lead’s best friend. In the original plot, the friend and the best friend were supposed to develop a perfect romantic relationship.
However, Zhou Yuwen decided to shake things up. Instead of following the original storyline, he had the protagonist, the female lead, and her best friend go on a trip together. Late one night, after a few drinks, the protagonist attempted to cuddle with the female lead but mistakenly ended up in bed with her best friend in the dark.
The scene turned chaotic when the protagonist’s hands wandered too far, and the best friend, half-asleep, thought she was dreaming. As things escalated, the female lead mumbled in her sleep, “Sisi, keep it down!” startling both the protagonist and the best friend awake.
Realizing what had happened, the best friend was mortified and wanted to scream, but the protagonist quickly covered her mouth, whispering, “Shh, don’t let her find out!”
This ssy and controversial plotline deviated entirely from the original story. Zhou Yuwen clicked “Publish” and leaned back, wondering how readers would react.
As expected, the comnts exploded. So praised his boldness, while others were furious:
“Trash author! What kind of nonsense is this?”
“Weren’t you supposed to write sothing realistic? Why turn this into a soap opera?”
Zhou Yuwen didn’t care. Writing had initially been a ans to make money, but now it was for his amusent. He planned to abandon the original storyline entirely and delve into this new web of love and betrayal. A million words of drama between the protagonist, the female lead, and her best friend? Why not?
After finishing his work, Zhou Yuwen went to take a shower, intending to cuddle with Lu Lin afterward. When he ca out, though, he found Lu Lin on the phone with Zheng Yanyan.
Zhou Yuwen didn’t say a word, simply sitting next to Lu Lin and wrapping an arm around her waist. He leaned in and kissed her neck gently, careful not to interrupt her call.
Lu Lin, ever composed, listened to Yanyan ramble, occasionally replying with a noncommittal “Mm-hmm.”
Unlike Lu Lin, who didn’t need close friendships, Yanyan was clingy, especially after her fallout with Tao Tian. She idolized Lu Lin as her best friend, sharing every little detail of her life.
“Linlin, you’re my best friend!” Yanyan would often declare loudly in the dorms, oblivious to the irony of her words.
Lu Lin, who found such declarations overly saccharine, decided to cut the call short. “My boyfriend’s here; I can’t talk anymore.”
“Let
say hi to him!” Yanyan chirped playfully.
“What could you possibly have to say to him?” Lu Lin retorted, amused.
“I want to know what kind of man stole my best friend away!” Yanyan teased.
Rolling her eyes, Lu Lin held the phone to Zhou Yuwen. “She wants to talk to you. Interested?”
“Cough,” Zhou Yuwen coughed, utterly speechless. “What would I even say?”
Seeing his reluctance, Lu Lin answered for him, “He’s old and shy. Doesn’t talk much.”
“Old? Linlin, you call your boyfriend old?” Yanyan burst into laughter.
“Yes, he’s an old man,” Lu Lin quipped. “Anyway, he wants
to go to bed now.”
“Linlin, could you not be so blunt? He’s right there!” Yanyan laughed so hard she nearly dropped her phone, while Lu Lin, unfazed, hung up.
“Calling
old now?” Zhou Yuwen teased, pulling Lu Lin closer.
“What else should I call you?” Lu Lin replied nonchalantly.
“Fair enough,” Zhou Yuwen conceded, pulling her onto his lap. “Done with your call?”
Lu Lin nodded, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Are you done working?”
“No,” Zhou Yuwen replied, his hands sliding around her waist. “But I missed you too much to keep working.”
Though she knew he was sweet-talking her, Lu Lin smiled and kissed him.
The evening blurred into a mix of playful teasing and intimate monts. By the next morning, as the sun stread through the windows, Zhou Yuwen was already making calls to arrange the motorcycle he had promised Lu Lin.
“Linlin,” he said, pulling her close as she groggily stirred awake. “Ready to pick out your bike?”
Still drowsy, Lu Lin nestled into his arms and mumbled, “I guess.”
That day, they visited several dealerships, eventually settling on a sleek Suzuki GSX. Watching Lu Lin ride it, clad in black jeans and boots, Zhou Yuwen thought, This girl really knows how to steal the show.
