In late November, Zhou Yuwen was overwheld with tasks—not only relocating his office but also registering a new small company called "Xianlin Takeout."
It was 2013, and the concept of "Internet " was already gaining traction. People were realizing that moving any service online was the way forward.
Zhou Yuwen didn’t aim to compete head-to-head with giants like ituan or Ele., but since he chose to enter the industry, he had to align with the trend. He instructed Liu Shuo to find a couple of computer science students to develop a simple app based on his specifications.
The app’s design was straightforward: students could register accounts to browse restaurants near Xianlin University Town and place orders, which would then be picked up by registered student riders. For every completed order, the rider would earn a 0.5 yuan commission. While the amount seed small, it added up. On rainy days, when entire dorm rooms ordered food together, a single trip could net a rider 10–15 yuan—a decent part-ti inco for students.
Zhou Yuwen’s mission was to serve the student community. In the recruitnt drive for riders, he specified that students from low-inco families would be given priority. He even provided electric scooters adorned with the Xu Huai Hui logo for deliveries. A nominal 0.1 yuan was deducted per completed order for scooter usage. Once the cumulative deductions reached 1,500 yuan, the scooters beca the riders’ property—a significant benefit for students in need.
By early December, blue-vested student riders on electric scooters could be seen zipping between the universities, becoming a unique sight in the area.
Despite his busy schedule, Zhou Yuwen hadn’t been neglecting his studies too much. He occasionally attended lectures but had little ti for his official girlfriend, Zheng Yanyan.
After the movie incident, Zhou Yuwen refrained from contacting Zheng Yanyan. After all, his affair with Lu Lin was no longer a secret to Chang Hao, and it was only a matter of ti before she found out. Zhou Yuwen figured that if Zheng Yanyan never reached out to him, it likely ant she already knew and intended to sever ties silently—a clean and painless resolution.
But Zhou Yuwen was overestimating the situation.
Unexpectedly, Chang Hao, despite his emotional outburst, didn’t dare breathe a word to Zheng Yanyan. Instead, he inexplicably took his anger out on Xu Bowen.
Since that altercation, Chang Hao’s deanor had undergone a dramatic shift. He had stopped gaming and adopted a more serious deanor. Strangely enough, Liu Yue had begun to shadow Chang Hao wherever he went.
During lectures, Chang Hao would sit quietly at the back of the classroom, and Liu Yue would cautiously follow and sit near him. Chang Hao often distanced himself from her, but Liu Yue was persistent, continuing to tag along wherever he went.
Li Qiang, observing Liu Yue’s constant presence around Chang Hao, grew increasingly jealous. He sourly asked Ma Tian and Li Jing, “Hey, what’s with Liu Yue always trailing our boy Chang Hao?”
The two girls exchanged glances before replying with mild exasperation, “Isn’t it obvious? Liu Yue’s fallen for our class monitor.”
“What the hell? What’s she thinking? My boy Chang Hao’s from the capital! Like he’d ever go for her,” Li Qiang scoffed, though he couldn’t hide the faint sense of unease creeping into his heart.
From the start, Li Qiang had fantasized about pairing up with Lu Lin while mocking the rest of the dorm as single dogs. But now, Zhou Yuwen already had a girlfriend, and even Chang Hao seed to have soone pining after him. Chang Hao’s reputation had improved significantly since his fight with Xu Bowen, leaving Li Qiang feeling oddly discontented.
Chang Hao had been avoiding the dorms recently, spending most of his ti at the library instead. Li Qiang, stuck in the dorms with only Lu Yuhang—who was perpetually buried in books—found himself growing increasingly restless.
One day, when Chang Hao returned, Li Qiang couldn’t resist teasing him. “Hey, Chang Hao, another date with Liu Yue at the library? Looks like you’re gonna be the next to find a girlfriend!”
Chang Hao frowned at the remark and retorted sharply, “What the hell are you talking about? When did I ever say I’d get with Liu Yue?”
“Co on, Chang Hao, don’t play dumb with . Everyone knows you’ve got her wrapped around your finger since you took down Xu Bowen. It’s natural for her to fall for you!” Li Qiang smirked, reclining in his chair and picking at his toes.
“Shut the hell up! I’ve told you before: I’d never go for soone like her! You’ve gotta be out of your damn mind!”
After being beaten by Liu Shuo, Chang Hao had grown more introspective and withdrawn. He’d initially resolved to focus on self-improvent, but that resolve had waned after a week.
He’d tried quitting smoking but caved after three days. Studying at the library had also beco a cover for scrolling through his phone. He’d recently stumbled upon a serialized web novel called I Don’t Want to Be Reborn and found himself utterly engrossed.
anwhile, Liu Yue, despite Chang Hao’s blatant rejections, continued to pursue him relentlessly. Her determination frustrated him to no end, as it reminded him of his own unreciprocated feelings for Zheng Yanyan.
One day, after yet another encounter with Liu Yue at the library, Chang Hao finally snapped. “Enough! Stop following
already!”
Liu Yue, startled, looked at him with tear-filled eyes. “Fine... if you really don’t like , I’ll leave.”
Watching her walk away, Chang Hao felt a mix of guilt and relief. But deep down, he justified his actions. If I don’t like her, why should I lead her on just to spare her feelings?
Later that day, soone else approached him in the library. “Is this seat taken?”
Annoyed, Chang Hao glanced up—only to et a pair of bright, sparkling eyes.
It was Shen Yu.
Wearing a simple white knit sweater and jeans, her gentle smile lit up the gloomy autumn day.
“No, it’s not,” Chang Hao stamred, caught off guard by her beauty.
The stark contrast between her elegance and Liu Yue’s persistence only solidified one thing in Chang Hao’s mind: If I’m going to date soone, it’s going to be soone like her—not a secondhand embarrassnt like Liu Yue.
anwhile, Zheng Yanyan was growing increasingly frustrated with Zhou Yuwen’s lack of attention. Despite her repeated attempts to et up, he always claid to be too busy—moving offices, handling logistics, or networking with clients.
But for Zheng Yanyan, breaking up with Zhou Yuwen was out of the question.
After all, the entire school knew that her boyfriend was the boss of Xu Huai Hui. Breaking up with him? Ridiculous!
