Zhou Yuwen was in the vegetable garden, reinforcing the bamboo supports for the cucumber vines, when Lu Hui appeared nearby.
Although Lu Hui wasn’t particularly pretty, her figure was decent. At 25 years old, she carried a certain allure. Her yellow dress cinched her waist nicely, and the V-shaped neckline hinted at her curves.
“President Zhou!” Lu Hui called out coyly, standing at the edge of the garden.
Zhou Yuwen glanced back at her, responded with a polite "Oh," and called her “Sister Hui” before returning to his work.
At that mont, Zhou Yuwen was too engrossed in shoring up the supports to engage in conversation. For him, life was simple—whether or not he had been reborn, he found joy in tinkering with small projects like this.
Lu Hui, seeing Zhou Yuwen’s indifference, hesitated before asking, “What are you busy with, President Zhou?”
“The supports are a bit loose; I’m reinforcing them,” Zhou Yuwen replied.
He added with a hint of exasperation, “So little thief’s been sneaking in to steal my cucumbers lately.”
Lu Hui covered her mouth and giggled. “President Zhou, you’re dealing with thousands of yuan in transactions every day. Do you really care about a few cucumbers?”
“It’s different,” Zhou Yuwen said, tying a knot. “Money is money. Growing vegetables is sothing I enjoy. Seeing this lush green every day puts
in a good mood.”
Lu Hui chuckled. “You’re so young, but you act like an old man.”
Zhou Yuwen ignored her and continued his work.
The garden, a repurposed flowerbed, still had muddy patches from the recent rain. Zhou Yuwen had laid a few stones down as stepping paths, but it wasn’t well-paved.
Initially, Lu Hui only intended to chat with Zhou Yuwen from the edge of the garden. However, his aloofness annoyed her, and his quiet, focused deanor made him all the more intriguing. After a mont’s hesitation, she stepped carefully onto the stones in her high-heeled sandals and walked over.
“Need help?” Lu Hui asked, standing close enough for Zhou Yuwen to catch a faint whiff of her perfu.
“Sure,” Zhou Yuwen replied. “Hold these two bamboo poles for
while I secure them.”
As she obliged, the two ended up standing very close. Zhou Yuwen, much taller than Lu Hui, couldn’t help but notice her deliberately lowered neckline. Although her skin was slightly sallow, her curves were undeniably full and alluring.
Lu Hui smirked, sensing his reaction, and felt a small sense of victory. “President Zhou, about the other day—I wanted to apologize. I didn’t know who you were, and you looked so young that I really thought you were just a student worker.”
“It’s fine,” Zhou Yuwen replied nonchalantly. “I’m young, after all. Besides, it’s only fair to help out.”
Hearing this, Lu Hui pouted slightly. “You keep calling
‘Sister Hui.’ Do I look that old to you?”
“Not at all,” Zhou Yuwen replied with a chuckle.
“Then why won’t you even look at ?” she asked playfully.
Zhou Yuwen stayed focused on securing the supports and said, “I’m busy.”
Lu Hui giggled. “Oh, I thought you didn’t dare look at .”
She continued chatting, praising Zhou Yuwen’s looks and capabilities before slipping in a question. “Do you have a girlfriend?”
“Yes,” Zhou Yuwen replied simply.
A flicker of disappointnt crossed Lu Hui’s face. “Oh, I was thinking of introducing soone to you.”
Before the conversation could continue, a sharp voice interrupted: “What are you two doing?”
Both turned to see Zheng Yanyan standing there, arms crossed, glaring at them. She was dressed in a red camisole that accentuated her petite fra and wore denim jeans with a belt. Beside her stood Lu Lin, dressed in a black tank top and matching pants.
It was noon, and the two had co to find Zhou Yuwen for lunch, only to see him standing so close to another woman.
Zheng Yanyan’s jealousy flared instantly. Puffing her cheeks, she stomped over and demanded an explanation.
Zhou Yuwen calmly stepped out of the garden and explained, “The cucumber supports were loose, so I was fixing them.”
Zheng Yanyan wasn’t satisfied. “Fixing them like that?” She stared pointedly at Lu Hui, who had been holding the poles. With her raised arms, her neckline revealed even more than before.
Won understood won all too well. Zheng Yanyan’s eyes narrowed with suspicion, and she turned to Zhou Yuwen. “Who is she?”
“This is Sister Hui, introduced by Gao Yang to handle accounting,” Zhou Yuwen replied, then turned to Lu Hui. “This is my girlfriend.”
Lu Hui’s confidence wavered as she took in Zheng Yanyan’s stunning appearance. Compared to her, Lu Hui suddenly felt ordinary, like a wilted flower beside a blooming one.
That evening, back at the office, Jiang Xinyi sighed as she looked at her nearly empty jar of face cream.
“This damned Zhou Yuwen,” she muttered. “I thought this cream would last two months, but he used it all in two days!”
Lu Hui laughed. “Why not have your boyfriend buy you another one?”
Jiang Xinyi waved her off. “Forget it. His salary isn’t that high. I’ll let him save his money.”
Lu Hui smirked and casually said, “High salary or not, it’s clear he cares about you. Otherwise, why would he top up your salary by 500 yuan every month?”
Jiang Xinyi froze, her eyes wide with shock. “What? He does what?!”
