Zheng Yanyan, even when interacting with others, showed a bit of restraint, especially since Zhou Yuwen's counselor, You Changjin, was present. She quickly composed herself and offered a shy smile as a greeting.
You Changjin nodded in response, silently noting how Zhou Yuwen always kept a low profile. Who would have thought he had such an attractive girlfriend? Of course, in his view, Jiang Xinyi still held a superior charm.
Observing Jiang Xinyi's refined deanor as she watched the performance, You Changjin felt a surge of pride. With her elegance, Jiang Xinyi naturally elevated the image of any man she stood beside. Though Yanyan was beautiful, her youth and inexperience still couldn’t compete with Jiang Xinyi’s sophistication.
Each age has its way of expressing love, and Zhou Yuwen found his relationship with Yanyan fulfilling. After the brief formalities, Yanyan toned down her excitent but continued chatting to Zhou Yuwen, showing him posts on her phone praising her on the school forum.
“Hey, look at this photo! It ca out nice,” Yanyan said.
Dressed in her JK-style skirt, Yanyan exuded a bit of a rebellious air. Zhou Yuwen glanced at the screen and agreed, “It does look good.”
“Do you like it?” Yanyan asked, her eyes bright with anticipation.
“What version of you don’t I like?” Zhou Yuwen retorted.
Yanyan giggled, “You’re always sweet-talking.”
“Hey, hubby, aren’t you scared I might stop liking you one day and break up with you?” She cupped Zhou Yuwen’s face playfully.
“Not at all. I’ve already gained everything I wanted.”
“Oh, you’re so bad!” Yanyan said in a mock angry tone, her voice light and teasing, enough to make anyone smile.
As she spoke, she nestled further into Zhou Yuwen, pinching his cheeks, “Don’t talk like that!”
“If you stopped liking , do you think I’d keep chasing you?”
“Then wouldn’t I be troubling you? Maybe leaving would be my way of loving you.”
“Stop joking! You’re not allowed to leave , understood?”
Content with his answer, Yanyan finally relaxed, leaning even closer.
“I’m so popular now; you should cherish
more and love
better.”
“Okay.”
Pleased with his answer, Yanyan continued playing on her phone. The narrow chairs in the auditorium made it hard for her to sit comfortably, so she propped Zhou Yuwen’s leg up and rested her white-stockinged leg on it.
In the dim light, her leg looked smooth and fair, with the knee-high sock barely reaching above her knee, and her pink JK skirt draping over the top. Zhou Yuwen tugged at her skirt to ensure modesty, his hand brushing close to her. Yanyan didn’t flinch, showing her complete trust in him.
“Can you be more ladylike?” Zhou Yuwen whispered.
“What, isn’t putting my leg on my boyfriend’s lap ladylike?”
Yanyan playfully wiggled her leg. Zhou Yuwen sighed, pulling her leg closer and resting his hand on it.
Though Yanyan’s posture was sowhat bold, with the stage performance in full swing and the dark surroundings, no one, not even You Changjin or Jiang Xinyi nearby, seed to pay them any attention.
What counselor would eavesdrop on a student’s mont with their girlfriend, anyway?
However, hearing Yanyan’s playful banter did make You Changjin slightly envious. Although he believed Jiang Xinyi was more beautiful, the carefree affection between Zhou Yuwen and Yanyan was sothing he silently yearned for.
Jiang Xinyi, though graceful, never initiated such intimacy. Their relationship had boundaries, and You Changjin feared overstepping them would make her frown in disapproval.
Every household has its challenges.
He could only admire Zhou Yuwen’s approach.
Despite the noise from the stage, Yanyan’s playful voice was distinct beside him.
“Is it your class’s turn now?” Jiang Xinyi asked.
“Yes,” You Changjin replied, snapping back to reality.
anwhile, Yanyan suggested, “Let’s go watch a movie after this.”
“It’ll be nine by then. A movie? Aren’t you going back to the dorm?”
“Who said anything about going back to the dorm?”
“Shh, it’s starting.”
“Ugh, boring.”
To Yanyan, the group choir was the least interesting part of the night. She would’ve preferred to hear Zhou Yuwen sing solo.
“Shh~” Zhou Yuwen signaled for silence.
On stage, Chang Hao led the group in singing Tomorrow Will Be Better.
Gently awaken the sleeping soul, slowly open your eyes...
Yanyan rested her head on Zhou Yuwen’s shoulder, smirking at the song choice.
She shifted her leg closer and continued playing on her phone.
Two minutes later, the performance ended, and applause rang out. Chang Hao and his classmates bowed and exited. You Changjin clapped loudly, and Zhou Yuwen joined in politely.
Chang Hao, flushed with excitent, reviewed their performance with classmates, ntioning so rough spots in their singing.
“But the school leaders seed pleased,” he said.
“You did well. I think we’ll get second place at least,” You Changjin encouraged. “Take a seat.”
Chang Hao noticed Yanyan occupying his seat, phone in hand.
“Yanyan?”
“Oh, is this your seat?” Yanyan stood, “Go ahead.”
“It’s fine; I’ll stand.”
Zhou Yuwen interjected, “Are you really going to take his seat and make him stand?”
“He said he didn’t mind,” Yanyan rolled her eyes.
Zhou Yuwen laughed. Sotis girls were sharp, other tis not so much. “Sit down, Chang Hao. We’ll go grab sothing to eat.”
“It’s really fine.”
“Sit. Mr. You probably wants to speak with you.” Zhou Yuwen stood, pulling Yanyan up with him.
After a quick goodbye to Chang Hao and Li Qiang, they left.
Li Qiang watched them go, comnting, “Brother Hao, don’t they look perfect together?”
Chang Hao ignored him. He had decided to move on from Yanyan, but seeing her now, dressed in her pink JK skirt, stirred emotions he thought were gone.
“She’s beautiful...” he thought.
“So, you know Zhou Yuwen’s girlfriend?” You Changjin asked curiously.
“Of course, Mr. You. Yanyan and Brother Hao are childhood friends from Beijing!” Li Qiang was eager to speak up.
“Childhood friends?” You Changjin raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t listen to him,” Chang Hao corrected.
They sat and talked more, and Chang Hao explained they’d only t in a sumr freshman chat group.
“So, you knew her first?” You Changjin pieced it together.
Chang Hao’s face showed a hint of regret.
“You’ll find soone,” You Changjin reassured, patting his shoulder. “I barely spoke to your teacher’s wife during college, and look at us now.”
Jiang Xinyi listened without speaking, observing You Changjin’s supportive side.
Chang Hao felt comforted. “Mr. You, I really envy you having such a beautiful girlfriend.”
“Just lucky,” You Changjin replied, glancing at Jiang Xinyi.
Jiang Xinyi gave Chang Hao a small smile.
Girls from other classes ca over, asking about Jiang Xinyi, surprised to learn she was You Changjin’s girlfriend.
“Wow, Mr. You, your girlfriend is so pretty!”
“You’re lucky, Mr. You!”
“You’re beautiful, ma’am!”
Jiang Xinyi smiled and answered a few questions, bolstering You Changjin’s reputation. Liu Yue called her “teacher’s wife” and said, “You have great taste, picking Mr. You.”
“Teacher’s wife, Mr. You is wonderful! Unlike my boyfriend.”
So, like Liu Yue, were adept at flattering.
Surrounded by admiration, You Changjin felt proud. Jiang Xinyi, too, saw a different side of him.
Zhou Yuwen led Yanyan to a secluded window spot to watch the show. He’d planned to leave but stayed since Yanyan needed to be there for the awards.
With such a stellar performance, the Arts Departnt was sure to win first place, and Yanyan would represent them on stage.
“Hey, hubby, do I look good in this outfit?” Yanyan twirled.
“Yes, beautiful,” Zhou Yuwen said, leaning against the window.
...
They chatted and watched the event, which included interactive gas, like the phone-in contest for a bicycle. Whoever called the host first would win.
Yanyan, knowing the host’s number, prepared ahead, even asking Zhou Yuwen to call too.
The host announced, “We have a caller: 187 155 xxxx!”
Yanyan felt brief disappointnt until she realized it was a familiar number.
“It’s us!” she shouted, waving her phone and jumping excitedly, her skirt fluttering.
“Our dance queen! Co on up!” the male host said with a smile.
Su Qing, co-hosting, frowned slightly at Yanyan’s exuberance as she pulled Zhou Yuwen to the stage.
