It wasn’t really Su Qing and Shen Yu’s fault for isolating Zheng Yanyan. The problem was that Zheng Yanyan just couldn’t stop talking about Zhou Yuwen, bringing him up hundreds of tis a day in the dorm, as if she was afraid others wouldn’t know he was her boyfriend.
Anyone would find that irritating, especially her roommates—one had been loudly claiming at the start of school that she and Zhou Yuwen were ant for each other, and the other had just started developing feelings for him before Zheng Yanyan swooped in and stole him away.
It would be hard to believe if there were no resentnt, yet they still acted like good friends.
As for Lu Lin, she didn’t really care about these dynamics. She was perhaps the most neutral in the dorm because she never intended to form close friendships with her roommates. During military training, it was Su Qing and the others who had the best ti together, while Lu Lin often sat alone on the balcony playing with her phone or smoking.
Lu Lin simply didn’t want to participate in too many dorm activities, but this unexpectedly left her as Zheng Yanyan’s only ally.
Zheng Yanyan saw it clearly too—the other two were her love rivals. If she didn’t strengthen her relationship with Lu Lin, she’d be in an awkward position in the dorm.
So, for the past few days, Zheng Yanyan had been clinging to Lu Lin, pretending they were like sisters.
Lu Lin responded with indifference.
That day, after they finished eating and returned to the dorm, Shen Yu asked Zheng Yanyan, “Did you see Zhou Yuwen’s post on Monts?”
“Huh? What?”
It was obvious that Zheng Yanyan hadn’t seen it yet.
Su Qing sneered from the side, “Didn’t you say he went to Hong Kong? Then why is he in Macau?”
“?”
Zheng Yanyan was startled and quickly grabbed her phone to check. Sure enough, Zhou Yuwen had posted a nine-picture collage on his Monts. Even though he wasn’t a pro at editing photos, with his good looks and a professional female guide by his side, he looked great in every shot.
Standing by the seaside in his outfit, he really did look handso and fresh.
There were also pictures of him buying a watch, shopping, eating, and drinking.
For this group of freshn, brands like LV and Chanel still felt sowhat distant, yet Zhou Yuwen’s bags were filled with nothing but these labels.
As soon as Zheng Yanyan saw Zhou Yuwen’s shopping bags, she was overjoyed and imdiately called him. “Why are you in Macau?”
Zhou Yuwen replied, “Well, since I’m already in Hong Kong, I couldn’t not stop by Macau.”
“Hmph, skipping classes and running around all over the place! Have you forgotten about your girlfriend?” Zheng Yanyan spoke sweetly, clearly in a playful, teasing mood.
Zhou Yuwen responded, “Of course I haven’t forgotten. Didn’t you say you wanted CK briefs? I bought them for you.”
“Ugh, you’re the worst!”
Zheng Yanyan took her call to the balcony, but she didn’t lower her voice, so everyone could still hear her. She asked Zhou Yuwen when he would be back, and he told her it would be in the next couple of days.
“Hurry up! I miss you.”
“Can you talk normally, please?” Zheng Yanyan’s way of speaking was always a bit off, and Zhou Yuwen couldn’t help but point it out, which made her angry.
“D*mn it, Zhou Yuwen! What do you an by that?” Zheng Yanyan instantly snapped.
“There you go, now that’s more like it.”
Zheng Yanyan was furious, calling Zhou Yuwen an a**hole for not appreciating her attempts to be cute.
Zhou Yuwen replied, “You should just be yourself. If I wanted soone to be cutesy, I’ve got soone else for that.”
“Who?” Zheng Yanyan demanded.
“I’m just kidding! Why are you taking it so seriously?”
“Hmph.”
Zheng Yanyan pouted and then shifted into full girlfriend mode, interrogating Zhou Yuwen: “Who took those photos for you? They say the girls in Macau are legal professionals. Did you do sothing with them?”
Zhou Yuwen asked, “If I did, would you break up with ?”
“I…” For a mont, Zheng Yanyan was at a loss. After all, she’d finally found a boyfriend who drove sports cars and traveled around. If he cheated, would she really break up with him?
She definitely couldn’t bear to.
Thankfully, Zhou Yuwen gave her an out: “I’m just kidding. Do I look like that kind of person?”
“Hmph, I wouldn’t be so sure.” Zheng Yanyan pouted again, but continued to sweet-talk Zhou Yuwen into returning soon. She asked where he was.
“I’m in the hotel,” he said.
“Can we video call?”
“You’re just trying to check up on , aren’t you?”
“No way! I just miss you and want to see you.”
“Fine, check away, if it’ll ease your mind.”
So, Zhou Yuwen started a video call.
“Wow, Zhou Yuwen, what hotel are you staying at? It looks so fancy.”
As she started the video, Zheng Yanyan walked back into the dorm, making an excuse about the poor signal on the balcony, though she really just wanted to show off her relationship with Zhou Yuwen to Su Qing.
Zhou Yuwen ntioned the na of the hotel, saying it was by the sea and pointing out the view of Macau’s streets and the biggest casino just ahead.
“Look at this,” Zhou Yuwen said, showing her the scenery from his balcony.
This part of Macau was its most luxurious area, with brightly lit buildings similar to the Bund along the Huangpu River.
“Wow, it’s so pretty! I’m stuck in the dorm. Hey, Linlin, co look! Zhou Yuwen’s in Macau right now!”
Zheng Yanyan started pulling Lu Lin into her show-off session, but Lu Lin wasn’t interested at all. She barely glanced at the screen and gave a simple “oh” in response.
Luckily, Zheng Yanyan didn’t press her to say anything. After showing off to Lu Lin, she moved on to Shen Yu. “Look, Shen Yu, isn’t the night view of Macau beautiful?”
Shen Yu wasn’t expecting it, but when she saw Zhou Yuwen and the street view on the screen, she smiled and said, “Oh, it is.”
“Why’d you go to Macau?” Shen Yu asked, starting a brief conversation with Zhou Yuwen.
By now, it was evening, and the girls in the dorm were dressed lightly. Lu Lin, who had briefly appeared in the video, was only wearing a black camisole.
Shen Yu, on the other hand, was more conservatively dressed in a shirt.
Zhou Yuwen explained that he had originally gone to Hong Kong for fun but had found it boring and decided to visit Macau.
“I see.”
As Shen Yu and Zhou Yuwen chatted, Su Qing, watching from the side, was clearly eager to say sothing as well. But Zheng Yanyan hadn’t even tried to involve her and instead kept chatting with Shen Yu.
Su Qing figured that after Shen Yu finished talking, Zheng Yanyan would probably flaunt her phone and co over to her. When that happened, she would definitely ask Zhou Yuwen why he went to Macau and even request so snacks from him, since she’d heard Macau had great desserts.
But just as Shen Yu was wrapping up her conversation, Zheng Yanyan stood up and began walking towards Su Qing.
Su Qing eagerly leaned forward, ready for her turn.
But to her surprise, Zheng Yanyan bypassed her and headed back to the balcony.
“Hey, Zhou Yuwen, when are you coming back?”
“Haven’t you already asked that?”
“Oh, right. Haha!”
As Zheng Yanyan brushed past Su Qing, Su Qing’s expression darkened. Listening to her deliberately exaggerated conversation, Su Qing felt a lump in her throat. *Am I really inferior to this annoying girl?*
At that mont, Su Qing felt truly wronged.
After a few more words with Zhou Yuwen, Zheng Yanyan ended the call.
Returning to the dorm with a grin, she said, “Hey, Linlin, Zhou Yuwen said he’ll be back the day after tomorrow.”
“That’s great,” Lu Lin replied flatly.
“Yep, and he’s bringing
a gift!” Zheng Yanyan said gleefully.
Su Qing, feeling sour, glanced at Zheng Yanyan and scoffed, “A gift? What kind of gift? You had him buy you underwear, why not just ask him to get you so pads too?”
Zheng Yanyan pouted, “What my boyfriend buys for
is none of your business.”
“Hmph!”
Su Qing, frustrated, didn’t want to stay in the dorm any longer and stord out.
After all, several other dorms nearby were filled with their classmates, and Su Qing often visited one of them, which had three people she was close to.
“Yanyan, that was a bit much,” Lu Lin said.
But Zheng Yanyan wasn’t bothered at all. “Is it too much to be upset that soone’s eyeing my boyfriend?”
Su Qing sulked for a while but eventually got over it. A little while later, she sent Zhou Yuwen a ssage:
"That Zheng Yanyan is doing it on purpose."
Zhou Yuwen: "?"
"She’s doing it on purpose. She had you
talk to Linlin and Shen Yu but deliberately ignored , just to annoy ."
“…”
Zhou Yuwen replied with an ellipsis. Sotis he wanted to ask, *Co on, you’re a reborn person. Do you really need to get mad over such a small thing?*
But of course, he couldn’t say that. If he did, Su Qing would really get upset.
No matter how old a girl is, they all need to be coaxed. Whether they’ve been reborn or not doesn’t change that. Rebirth just gives them foresight for certain things, but it doesn’t change much else.
Take Su Qing, for example. In her past life, she had heard that Bitcoin would rise in value, but who in their right mind would buy Bitcoin back then? And even if they wanted to, how would they know how to buy it?
In her previous life, Su Qing had started dating Zhou Yuwen in college, and they later married. She didn’t have to worry about anything—Zhou Yuwen took care of everything while she just needed to focus on studying and working hard.
It wasn’t until after the divorce that Su Qing realized how difficult life was without Zhou Yuwen, which was why she clung to him so much after their separation.
Now that she was reborn, seeing Zhou Yuwen already able to buy a convertible on his own, Su Qing thought that if he could make money, so could she. That’s when she ca up with the idea of investing in Bitcoin.
But she had never dealt with Bitcoin before. After so research online, she joined a group chat where everyone talked about a special app that connected to the Bitcoin system. You could buy as much as you wanted through the app.
The group’s admin even shared the app’s address, and everything seed legit.
For a girl who had never experienced the darker side of society, it was easy for Su Qing to believe in it, right?
Back in her previous life, when Zhou Yuwen and Su Qing were married, she had once told a utilities collector that the adults weren’t ho.
All of this was just too common.
"Zhou Yuwen, why are you in Macau?"
Instead of going to the neighboring dorm, Su Qing went outside to the little garden and called Zhou Yuwen. The mont he answered, she happily asked, "What are you doing in Macau?"
Zhou Yuwen replied vaguely, saying he had so business there.
“What kind of business?”
“Work-related stuff. Even if I explained, you wouldn’t get it.”
“You’re becoming harder to understand.”
“Did you ever really understand
in the first place?”
“Hmph!” Hearing this, Su Qing couldn’t help but smile. For so reason, she felt herself liking this version of Zhou Yuwen even more. In this life, he seed more career-driven and responsible. She wasn’t exactly sure what he was up to, but from his social dia photos, she could tell he looked more stylish and polished than ever.
She found herself wondering if she loved the Zhou Yuwen from her previous life, or if it was this world’s Zhou Yuwen who had captured her heart.
In the end, though, Su Qing realized that, no matter which world, she had feelings for Zhou Yuwen.
"Since you started dating Zheng Yanyan, you never chat with
anymore."
"I’ve just been busy."
“But sohow, you always make ti for her?”
"She’s my girlfriend…"
"I could be your girlfriend, too,” Su Qing muttered.
Zhou Yuwen replied, "Let’s not go there, Su Qing. I’m not the kind of guy who dates two people at once."
“Who’s asking you to date two people at once!” Su Qing rolled her eyes, thinking, *This guy really flatters himself. I didn’t an for you to juggle both of us; I ant for you to dump Zheng Yanyan and choose !*
Zhou Yuwen responded, “That’s not right. I can’t treat her unfairly.”
“What’s there to be fair about? She’s only after your money, making you buy things for her all the ti.” Su Qing pouted.
Zhou Yuwen laughed, “Well, it’s the sa no matter who I buy for.”
“No need to buy for . Once I make money from Bitcoin, I’ll take care of you.” Su Qing said this seriously.
Zhou Yuwen chuckled, “That’s touching.”
"Then—"
"Alright, alright, let’s not kid ourselves. I have to go now. I’ve still got things to take care of."
"Zhou—"
Before she could finish, Zhou Yuwen hung up. This whole situation was really getting complicated. In this life, Zhou Yuwen hadn’t intended to date Su Qing, but she was his ex-wife, after all, and she had been through the rebirth experience with him. Cutting her off completely didn’t feel right, either.
Maybe if he ever tired of things, he could consider marrying her. After all, they were both reborn, and if they tead up, they could accomplish a lot.
As for the fact that Su Qing would likely suffer financially from investing in Bitcoin, Zhou Yuwen wasn’t planning on intervening.
Su Qing and Zhou Yuwen were different. Before his rebirth, Zhou Yuwen had read many stories of rebirth, so he knew exactly where other reborn people had ssed up, ntally preparing himself to avoid those mistakes. Sotis he was bold, and other tis, he was cautious.
Su Qing, on the other hand, hadn’t been exposed to such stories. Her rebirth was truly like feeling her way forward in the dark. Although she could anticipate certain events, it didn’t an she knew how to make the most of them.
Eventually, after so losses, she’d grow. Zhou Yuwen believed that in ti, she’d beco successful.
A woman like her was definitely soone he intended to keep by his side.
---
And so, Zhou Yuwen stayed in Macau for another two days before finally catching a flight to Pudong. From there, he took a high-speed train back to Jinling.
Originally, he had planned to return to school on the 12th, but by the ti he reached Jinling, it was already 10 p.m. Instead of heading back to campus, he decided to spend the night at the new apartnt he had just purchased.
On October 13th, the fourth day of the new sester, the freshn had quickly adapted to campus life, scrambling out of bed at 8 a.m. for early classes—so even skipping breakfast to make it on ti.
anwhile, others would run five kiloters, grab breakfast, and head to class feeling refreshed.
Such was ordinary college life.
Since it was still early October, the weather hadn’t turned too cold yet. So students were already wearing sweaters, but there were still plenty of female students making the most of the season by showing off their legs in short skirts and shorts.
In the second class of Landscape Engineering, the first thing the teacher did upon entering was have the class representative take attendance.
Zhou Yuwen had taken two days off, and technically, he should’ve been back yesterday. However, since he hadn’t shown up, it counted as skipping class.
Today, he wouldn’t be able to avoid being marked absent.
"Zhou Yuwen," Chang Hao called from the podium, pausing for a mont. When Zhou Yuwen didn’t answer, he recorded the absence.
After attendance, Chang Hao returned to his seat. Li Qiang nudged him, saying, "Brother Hao, why didn’t you cover for Zhou?”
“The teacher’s right there. How could I cover for him?” Chang Hao replied, exasperated.
"You could’ve just skipped his na."
"If you’re so good at this, why don’t you beco the class rep?"
Li Qiang chuckled and said, “Brother Hao, you’re not still mad at Zhou, are you?”
“Quit talking nonsense.”
Li Qiang sighed, “This sucks. Back when you and Zheng Yanyan were close, I’d get to see Linlin from ti to ti. Now that you’re not with her anymore, I don’t get to see Linlin at all.”
Chang Hao ignored him.
Li Qiang continued, “Brother Hao, maybe you should just apologize to Zhou. Just tell him you’re over Zheng Yanyan so he won’t avoid us anymore. That way, I can see Linlin, and you can see Zheng Yanyan too.”
"Can you just shut up?" Chang Hao said, exasperated.
Just then, Zhou Yuwen walked in.
After spending ti in Macau, Zhou Yuwen looked noticeably different. He seed more like a young professional than a college student now. His new look—a jacket over a collared shirt, paired with work pants—made him seem even more put-together.
When Liu Yue looked up and saw him, she did a double take before blurting out, “Zhou Yuwen?!”
At that, everyone turned to look at him.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Zhou Yuwen smiled at her and then found a seat.
“Hey, Zhou, over here!” Li Qiang called out happily, gesturing for him to join them.
With no reason to refuse, Zhou Yuwen went over.
The class quieted down again as Li Qiang leaned in and said, “So, just got back from Macau?”
“Yeah,” Zhou Yuwen nodded.
“Man, rich people really are on another level,” Li Qiang marveled, eyeing Zhou Yuwen’s new look.
Zhou Yuwen just laughed it off, saying, “It’s nothing. Clothes in Macau are cheaper than in Jinling. This whole outfit was just two hundred bucks.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, got it all at a street market.”
“Aw, man, you should’ve told . You could’ve grabbed
a couple of pieces too!”
Zhou Yuwen chuckled and promised, “Next ti, for sure.”
Their conversation was cut short when the teacher called for quiet, making Li Qiang stop talking.
After class, Li Qiang reminded Zhou Yuwen to check in with the teacher about his absence.
“Brother Hao’s still salty and wouldn’t cover for you,” Li Qiang teased.
“Shut it!” Chang Hao grumbled, embarrassed.
Though their relationship had beco strained, Zhou Yuwen didn’t mind and went to speak with the teacher.
During the ten-minute break, the class was lively, with many having seen Zhou Yuwen’s social dia post from Macau. They’d even chatted about it briefly in their class group chat.
To them, places like Macau and Hong Kong seed a world apart from their own.
Even Liu Yue, one of the girls, was visibly excited, and when Zhou Yuwen returned, she rushed over, asking, “Class rep, what was Macau like?”
Zhou Yuwen shrugged, saying it was alright, nothing too special.
“Are there a lot of foreigners there?” Liu Yue asked, smiling.
“Yeah, quite a few.”
With Liu Yue and the others crowded around him, Zhou Yuwen noticed Gu Yaoyao turned back and grinned, “You didn’t forget the stuff I asked for, did you?”
“Of course not. I wouldn’t forget.”
Back when Zhou Yuwen was still the class rep, he had held on to a few docunts ant for Gu Yaoyao but forgot to hand them over.
Liu Yue sighed and said, “Class rep, you really shouldn’t have stepped down. Now everything falls on Yaoyao to handle.”
“What’s that supposed to an, Liu Yue? You think my Brother Hao can’t handle it?” Li Qiang teased.
It took Liu Yue a mont to realize her mistake, covering her mouth in embarrassnt, “Oh no, that’s not what I ant!”
Everyone turned to look at Chang Hao.
Chang Hao, who had bottled up his feelings, finally spoke up, “When did you
get back?”
“Oh, last night.”
“Why didn’t you let us know? We could’ve picked you up.”
Li Qiang chid in, “Yeah, Zhou, you should’ve told us! We would’ve co to the station.”
Zhou Yuwen smiled and replied, “Didn’t want to trouble you.”
“It’s no trouble. We’re brothers! It’s what we do.” Li Qiang grinned.
Chang Hao asked where he’d stayed the night before.
Zhou Yuwen explained that he had rented a small place off-campus and might be living there from now on.
“Class rep, you’re living off-campus?” Liu Yue asked in surprise.
Liu Yue seed to get excited over everything. She turned to the others and said, “I’m a little envious of you, class rep.”
“Oh, my boyfriend is living off-campus, too. Where did you find your place?”
This piqued the interest of everyone around them. Zhou Yuwen even asked, “Wow, you’ve already got a boyfriend?”
“Mhm,” Liu Yue blushed a little.
The story soon ca out: it turned out that at the club recruitnt event, a senior in the photography club had invited Liu Yue to join, complinting her and saying she’d be a great subject for photos. They added each other on WeChat and spent several days chatting while she was away on break.
By the ti Liu Yue returned to school, their interactions were already leaning into sothing more.
When he t her at the station, the senior confidently took her hand.
Liu Yue shyly lowered her gaze, but she didn’t pull away.
And just like that, they beca official.
Zhou Yuwen nodded approvingly, smiling, “Not bad. That senior has good taste.”
Liu Yue blushed, “No, I actually thought he had poor taste for picking .”
“Oh, don’t say that, Liu Yue. You should know that you’re amazing and deserve anyone,” Zhou Yuwen said seriously.
Blushing harder, Liu Yue shyly lowered her gaze.
That morning, they spent their ti in class, playing on their phones and chatting with each other.
During the second break, as Liu Yue went to the restroom, she suddenly felt a pang of insecurity. She asked Gu Yaoyao, “Did you notice anything? When the class rep asked about my dating life, was he a bit… disappointed?”
Gu Yaoyao gave her a curious look, “Disappointed? Really?”
“Yaoyao, do you think… do you think the class rep might have feelings for ?” Liu Yue asked hesitantly.
Gu Yaoyao replied with a chuckle, “Are you talking about Chang Hao?”
