A month after getting their marriage license, Silas Lockwood still didn’t really feel married.

Although he and Luna Langley had moved into the house at Sutton Gardens after getting their license, they didn’t share a room. Luna slept in the master bedroom, and he slept in the guest room. Plus, they were both usually busy, so aside from breakfast, they hardly ever saw each other.

It was better that way.

To be honest, Silas Lockwood still didn’t quite know how to act naturally around his new wife.

He and Luna Langley had first t over a year ago on a blind date arranged by his mother, Mrs. Lockwood—Yvette Shaw. Pressured by their elders, they had a perfunctory eting and never contacted each other again.

The second ti they t was just last month, to discuss getting married.

It was Luna Langley who had initiated contact with Silas Lockwood.

She had heard about Silas’s predicant at the Lockwood Group and proposed investing in his project. But she wasn’t simply offering a helping hand in his ti of need; her condition was that Silas marry her.

When he first heard this demand, Silas Lockwood was stunned.

Luna Langley imdiately went on to explain the predicant she was facing.

After Mr. Langley passed away, Luna, as the eldest daughter, took over the Langley Group. But having a woman in power caused so of the more feudal-minded elders in the family to lose face. They repeatedly tried to coerce and entice her into surrendering her position as President of the Langley Group. When she refused, they started using her marital status as a weapon against her.

These people used all sorts of dirty tricks to force her into submission, pressuring her to accept a man of their choosing. They were attempting to use a husband and a marriage to pry her from her current position.

Therefore, Luna believed she had to resolve her marital status before falling into their trap by choosing a husband for herself.

"Then why ?" Silas asked.

"Because I’m very interested in the project you’re currently working on. As long as you’re willing to marry , I’ll invest in your project." That was how Luna Langley had answered.

At the ti, Silas had been desperate enough to try anything. He knew he should have asked for more details. If she was only interested in the project, why not just invest the money directly instead of throwing him into the bargain? But in that mont, he didn’t ask any more questions and simply agreed.

The next day, the two of them went to get their marriage license, becoming husband and wife in a daze...

"President Lockwood."

Silas was lost in thought when his special assistant, Conrad Beckett, ca over and whispered in his ear, "President Langley is in the private room next door for a business dinner. She’s drunk. Should we give her a ride back to Sutton Gardens on our way?"

Silas glanced at his watch.

It was getting late, and his own gathering was about to wrap up. It would be best to take her ho with them.

"Go ask President Langley’s assistant if she has any other plans."

"Yes, sir."

Conrad Beckett went to speak with Luna Langley’s assistant and ca back to report, "President Langley has no other appointnts on her schedule."

Silas Lockwood stood up.

In the private room next door, the dinner party had already ended.

Luna Langley was leaning back on the sofa, her face flushed and her brow tightly furrowed. It was clear she had drunk a lot.

It wasn’t sexism, but Silas knew that for a woman like Luna to secure her current position, she probably had to put in countless tis more effort than a man.

Although he didn’t know Luna well, in a sense, he admired her.

"Can you walk on your own?" Silas asked aloud.

He didn’t use any form of address because he didn’t know what would be appropriate. Calling her "President Langley" was too distant, and using her full na wasn’t right either.

Luna Langley didn’t open her eyes; it seed she had already fallen asleep.

"President Lockwood, why don’t you carry her?" Conrad Beckett suggested from the side.

Silas shot him a look.

Conrad flinched and shrank back, but he still couldn’t help but mutter softly, "But you two are married, aren’t you?"

They were married, it was true, but they weren’t close enough that he could just casually carry her.

Just as Silas was hesitating, Luna’s assistant ca in after finishing a phone call.

Luna had said on the day they got their license that Silas had to play along with her act. At the very least, he couldn’t let the people around her see that theirs was a marriage of convenience, otherwise it would just give people sothing new to gossip about.

Silas wasn’t sure if Luna’s assistant was soone she could trust.

If this assistant was a spy planted by others in the Langley family, not carrying Luna would likely arouse suspicion.

Silas bent down and scooped Luna up into his arms.

She was very light. As her soft body pressed against his, a faint, pleasant scent wafted into his nostrils.

Silas’s body tensed up involuntarily.
