Shane Sterling took a flight ho the next morning.
When he landed in ritopia, he still felt a sense of unease.
He’d once read that when two people are deeply in love, their souls secretly intertwine. If one of them faced danger, the other would feel it in their very core.
And right now, that was exactly how he felt.
Shane Sterling hadn’t eaten much during the long flight. When they landed, Justin Wyatt suggested they get lunch first, but Shane refused. He told Justin Wyatt and their driver to go eat while he drove off to find Isla Prescott himself.
For so reason, the closer he got to her, the more intense his anxiety grew.
And as it turned out, a man’s sixth sense can be frighteningly accurate.
Shane Sterling had just driven into Skysea Plaza. As he rounded a corner, he saw Isla Prescott and Annabelle Leighton crossing the street arm in arm. Suddenly, a box truck ca barreling straight for them.
"Watch out! Watch out!"
Alard passersby shouted warnings.
Isla Prescott and Annabelle Leighton were so wrapped up in their conversation that they didn’t realize the shouts were for them. By the ti they snapped out of it, the box truck was almost on top of them.
The two won panicked.
They were crossing with the walk signal. Why was this truck blowing through the red light like it was possessed?
People often have a "freeze response" when faced with sudden danger. That’s exactly what happened to Annabelle Leighton and Isla Prescott; they were both frozen stiff with terror.
Just as everyone thought the two beautiful young won were done for, a silver sedan suddenly shot out. With a masterful drift, it SKREEECHED sideways, shielding them with its own fra.
With a deafening CRASH, the two vehicles collided. The front of the box truck slamd right into the driver’s side of the sedan, and thick smoke began to pour out instantly.
The mont was more heart-stopping than a movie scene. It all happened in a matter of seconds. Truly, another second or two and Isla Prescott and Annabelle Leighton would have been sent flying.
Neither of them had ever been in a situation like this. They looked at each other, their legs threatening to give out.
"Is that... Shane Sterling’s car?" Annabelle Leighton said, pointing at the silver sedan.
Isla Prescott’s gaze followed her friend’s pointing finger, and her knees went even weaker.
It was Shane Sterling’s car!
And the person in the driver’s seat was none other than Shane Sterling—the man who was supposed to be on a business trip overseas!
The box truck had clearly been driven with suicidal intent; its speed was imnse. The driver’s side door of Shane Sterling’s car was deeply caved in, pinning him inside.
"Shane! Shane!"
Isla Prescott felt as if she were breathing in shards of glass.
She scrambled toward Shane’s car and yanked the door open. Inside, Shane Sterling was slumped over the steering wheel, one side of his face covered in blood. He was unconscious.
"Shane! Shane, wake up..."
Isla Prescott grabbed Shane’s hand. It was warm, and his pulse was still beating strongly beneath her fingers.
"Help! Annie, call an ambulance, quick!" Isla Prescott shouted to Annabelle Leighton, mustering her last shred of composure.
Shaken from her terror, Annabelle Leighton imdiately called for an ambulance and the police.
Kindhearted passersby also gathered around. They helped lift the injured and unconscious Shane Sterling from the smoking car and move him to a shady spot on the curb.
"Shane! Shane!"
Isla Prescott tried to rouse him, but Shane’s eyes remained tightly closed.
She was panicked beyond words. Fearing internal injuries, she didn’t dare hold him, so she could only clutch his hand and pray. ’He has to be okay. He just has to be.’
’After all, I haven’t even had the chance to tell him how much I love him.’
