Yvonne Sutton had just hung up the phone when soone added her on WeChat.

She shook her head with a small smile and accepted the request.

"You don’t believe , do you, sis?"

After sending that, she sent a sticker with a troubled expression.

Yvonne replied: You shouldn’t do any strenuous exercise in the early stages of pregnancy.

InvincibleLazyCat: Oh, right. Wyatt told you’re a gynecologist, sis.

Yvonne went to pour herself a cup of hot water. In that short ti, the other person sent several prenatal check-up reports.

InvincibleLazyCat: See, sis? I wasn’t lying. I really am pregnant.

Yvonne took a look and replied: There’s fluid in the uterine cavity. Can’t rule out intrauterine bleeding.

InvincibleLazyCat: What does that an?

Yvonne: It’s a threatened miscarriage.

InvincibleLazyCat: I had the check-up done at a small clinic. The doctor said it was fine and not to worry about it.

Yvonne: Have you had any symptoms like abdominal pain or bleeding recently?

InvincibleLazyCat: No bleeding, but my stomach has been hurting. I thought it was from eating sothing cold.

Yvonne: I asked about abdominal pain, not a stomach ache.

InvincibleLazyCat: Doctor, I can’t tell the difference.

Yvonne: I see it’s been two weeks since your last check-up. I suggest you get a follow-up as soon as possible, and go to a proper hospital.

InvincibleLazyCat: Doctor, I’m so scared right now. This is my first pregnancy, I don’t have any experience.

Yvonne: It’s usually not a big deal. Don’t worry.

InvincibleLazyCat sent a crying emoji and replied: Doctor, you’re so nice.

Yvonne’s lip twitched. She took a few sips of hot water.

InvincibleLazyCat seed to realize sothing: Huh? Sis, when did we change the subject?

Yvonne: Pregnant won need their rest. Go to bed early.

After sending that ssage, she closed WeChat.

When Vincent Reed got ho, all the lights on the first floor were off. He went to the dining room, poured a glass of hot water, and took a few large gulps. In the past, no matter how late it was, whether Yvonne Sutton was asleep or not, she would always co downstairs whenever he returned. She would ask if he’d eaten dinner, if he was tired today, if he needed her to run him a hot bath.

He wasn’t always hungry, but he loved seeing her bustling about in the kitchen for him. Sotis he would walk up and hug her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and saying, "I’m so tired today."

She would turn to hug him, stand on her toes to kiss his forehead, and then say, "You worked so hard."

Right now, he was very hungry and very tired, but all he had was a glass of hot water.

The first floor felt too empty and cold. Vincent couldn’t stand it any longer and hurried upstairs.

The light in the master bedroom on the second floor was on, and the door was ajar. He glanced at the ti—it was already past eleven. Usually, Wendy would have been asleep long ago at this hour. ’Could she be waiting for ?’

He quickened his pace to the door and heard Wendy on the phone.

"You really got divorced?"

Hearing this, Vincent froze.

"Your wife finally agreed to let you go? That’s great! We can finally be together openly. I can divorce Vincent Reed right away. Us and the kids... we can be a family."

Vincent’s fists clenched. Wendy Winters had promised him she would break things off with Stanley Lynch. ’So this was her promise?’

The person on the other end said sothing, and Wendy sounded a little angry.

"What do you an, why can’t you get a divorce? You have to leave with nothing? And pay compensation? How much? Ten million!"

Vincent sat in the study. He hadn’t actually had much to drink, but he felt drunk, his mind clouded. He wanted so of that hangover-sobering soup Yvonne used to make. Her version always had a strong dicinal herb sll, and he used to complain about the taste, but right now, he craved it more than anything.

Just then, the study door was pushed open. Wendy, dressed in her pajamas, turned on the light. She let out a soft "Huh?" upon seeing him, a guilty expression flashing across her face.

"Wh-when did you get back?"

Vincent felt the light was too bright, a bit glaring, so he covered his eyes with his hand. "Just now."

"Why didn’t you co to the bedroom?"

"I was afraid you were asleep and didn’t want to disturb you."

Wendy smiled. "Of course not. I was waiting up for you."

"Is that so."

Wendy sensed that sothing was off with Vincent’s mood, but she was in a hurry herself and chose to ignore it.

"Um, are you hungry?"

"A little."

"I’ll go make you sothing. How about a pack of instant noodles?"

"Sure."

Wendy froze for a mont, probably not expecting Vincent to actually take her up on the offer. She seed a little unhappy, but after a mont’s thought, she went downstairs anyway.

A short while later, she brought up a bowl of noodles. They weren’t cooked, just steeped in hot water.

"Here, eat it while it’s hot." She shoved the chopsticks into Vincent’s hand.

Vincent stirred the noodles, which hadn’t even been properly separated. Urged on by her, he took a bite. They were still hard, and tasteless too—she had probably forgotten to add the seasoning packet.

"Uh, I’ll learn how to cook in the future," Wendy said in a small voice.

Vincent nodded. "Okay."

"So, um, I want to invest in a project."

"Mm."

"Can you give so money?"

"How much?"

"Ten million."

The hand Vincent was using to stir the noodles froze. A bitter, self-mocking smile appeared on his lips.

"Is that a no? It’s only ten million. That’s not a lot for you, is it?" Wendy asked, a note of anxiety in her voice.

"It’s not," he said.

"Then give it to tomorrow. I need it urgently." Wendy yawned as she spoke. "Ugh, you sll like alcohol. You should just sleep in the study tonight."

With that, Wendy left.

Vincent stared at the rapidly cooling noodles. ’So this is what a ten-million-dollar bowl of instant ran looks like.’

Yvonne had made him instant noodles before, too. But her bowl was always steaming hot, with an egg and so greens mixed in. And when he’d complained, she explained that they were out of dried noodles and she would buy more at the supermarket tomorrow.

The next day was Sunday. Yvonne went for a morning run, picked up so flowers at the community gate, and then went ho to arrange them in a vase. The house was already filled with several vases of flowers; the living room was practically drowning in roses.

But she liked it. Seeing these roses every morning put her in a wonderful mood, especially today. Wyatt Shaw was coming back from his business trip tonight, which was probably another reason for her good spirits.

She made herself a bowl of seafood noodles. As she was eating, Lazy Cat ssaged her on WeChat again.

InvincibleLazyCat: Don’t wait up. Wyatt isn’t coming back today. He’s taking for a prenatal check-up tomorrow.

Yvonne stared at the ssage and took another bite of her noodles. The taste had sohow changed.

InvincibleLazyCat: Wyatt will probably tell you there’s an important eting here and he’ll be back in a few days.

Yvonne smiled and continued eating her noodles. Just then, a ssage from Wyatt Shaw arrived: I can’t make it back tonight. There’s an important eting here that I need to prepare for. I’ll be back in a few days.

Yvonne stared at the ssage, stunned for a mont. Comparing it to Lazy Cat’s text, it was a perfect match, word for word.

InvincibleLazyCat sent her another ssage: If you don’t believe , sis, start driving over here now. Go to rcy Hospital tomorrow morning, and you’ll see that everything I’ve said is true.

InvincibleLazyCat: You’ll co, won’t you, sis? You want to see the truth with your own eyes too, right?
