Yvonne Sutton’s temper flared. "There are so many hospitals in Aethelgard, did you have to co to ours? Did you have to find ?"
But the next morning, Wendy Winters ca anyway.
She was sward by obsessive paparazzi the mont she got out of the car. Thankfully, the hospital had arranged for security in advance, and with Vincent Reed also protecting her, she finally managed to squeeze inside.
Yvonne had already tried to pass her off to another OB/GYN, but Wendy Winters claid they were good friends, so the director personally called Yvonne and told her to take the case.
The prenatal check-up was quickly completed. Yvonne reviewed the report; everything was normal.
"The estimated gestational age is ten weeks and three days. Since this is the initial prenatal visit, you’ll need to register for a pregnancy handbook." She looked up from the computer screen at Vincent Reed. "The registration procedure is posted on the wall behind you. Just follow the steps."
Vincent Reed glanced at it and decided it was too much trouble. "You go do it. I’ll stay here with Wendy."
Yvonne lowered her eyes. "I’m sorry, but the handbook needs to be registered by the expectant mother or her family. I’m the doctor; it’s not my responsibility."
"Yvonne, can’t you see Wendy needs to look after her right now? Can’t you be a little more considerate?"
"If I had to be ’considerate’ for every patient’s family mber, I’d basically be an errand girl."
Vincent Reed’s brow furrowed. "You..."
"Next!"
Before Vincent Reed could say more, Wendy Winters stopped him.
"Yvonne, I won’t be too much trouble for Vincent, so please don’t be angry."
Yvonne looked at Wendy Winters. As a "friend," she had strung Vincent Reed along for fifteen years, rejecting him whenever he got too close, only to pull him back when he was about to move on. She knew perfectly well that Vincent had a girlfriend—her—yet she accepted his love and devotion with a clear conscience. Then she’d turn around and tell everyone that she and Yvonne were friends, too.
Yvonne retorted coolly, "He’s your fiancé, isn’t he? Shouldn’t you be the one to trouble him? Why would I be angry?"
"Did the two of you fight because of ?"
"We didn’t fight. We’ve already broken up."
"Yvonne, you’ve really misunderstood Vincent. He was just trying to help ."
Yvonne raised a hand to stop Wendy Winters from continuing. "You’re not that important. We didn’t break up because of you."
"Yvonne, who gave you permission to speak to Wendy like that? Apologize to her!" Vincent Reed shouted.
Yvonne had been holding it in, but at that mont, she couldn’t take it anymore.
"Get out!"
Yvonne was reported for her poor attitude. Vincent Reed made the complaint call right in front of her.
She was summoned to the director’s office as soon as they left.
"You do know that this hospital is a subsidiary of Reed dical, don’t you?"
Yvonne was silent. Of course she knew.
"And of the two you just saw, one is the famous actress Wendy Winters, and the other is Mr. Reed." The director paused, looking at her, expecting her to realize the magnitude of her mistake.
"So?" Yvonne asked, her hands in her pockets.
The director slamd his hand on the desk. "Yvonne, let ask you one thing: do you still want to work at this hospital?"
"If I’m facing termination just because Mr. Reed made an unreasonable demand, I refused, and that made him unhappy, then I believe I’ll need to file for labor arbitration."
"You... you’re too naive! That’s Mr. Reed! How can a junior doctor like you afford to offend him?"
"I have other patients waiting. Director, if there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to work."
"You... why are you so stubborn!" Seeing that she was about to leave, the director quickly called out to her. "There’s one more thing. Miss Winters seems to trust you quite a bit, but it’s inconvenient for her to co to the hospital. From now on, you will be her attending physician, available for house calls at any ti."
"I refuse!"
"It’s not up to you to refuse!"
Back in her office, Yvonne’s emotions were in turmoil. ’I don’t understand how Vincent Reed could treat like this!’
’I’ve loved him wholeheartedly for eight years. Does that an I deserve to be bullied by him just because I love him?’
"Here. The handbook is registered."
She hadn’t expected Vincent Reed and Wendy Winters to co back, and with not a single shred of guilt.
Yvonne gave a speechless laugh. She could only dutifully take the handbook and enter the information into the computer.
"The necessary precautions for the expectant mother are listed in the handbook. Please read it carefully. I’ll also mark the date for the next prenatal appointnt in the book. Rember to co in."
As she spoke, she wrote the date in the handbook with a pen.
"Wendy is very busy, and so am I. So you’ll need to remind , and I’ll bring her over," Vincent Reed said.
Yvonne paused her writing. "I’m sorry, but I’m likely busier than both of you, and I don’t particularly like keeping track of other people’s affairs."
"Wendy’s business is my business, and my business is your business. Just rember to remind . Why are you talking so much nonsense?"
"Vincent Reed." Yvonne looked up at him. She was filled with so many intense emotions, but in that mont, they suddenly faded. "I’ll say it again: we have broken up. I don’t want to say anything more. You can go ahead and file another complaint against , but I see patients according to clinic policy, and I treat every patient equally."
Vincent Reed pursed his lips. In that instant, he seed to see a certain finality in Yvonne’s eyes.
"I’ll rember," Wendy Winters said, tugging on Vincent Reed’s hand. Then, with a magnanimous expression, she added, "Yvonne, we’ll have to trouble you for the ti being."
"It’s no trouble. It’s just my job."
"Well, we won’t disturb you any longer."
"I won’t see you out."
Just as the two of them stood up, several obsessive paparazzi suddenly burst in. They were all holding up their phones, pointed directly at Wendy Winters and Vincent Reed.
"Miss Winters, are you and Mr. Stanley Lynch really just friends? Then how do you explain the two of you entering and leaving a hotel late at night?"
"Mr. Reed, did you really propose to Miss Winters? Is this all just for show?"
"Are you two really a couple? Didn’t Miss Winters deny the rumors before, saying she and Mr. Reed were just very good friends?"
The group charged in recklessly, pushing and shoving one another.
Vincent Reed held Wendy Winters tightly to protect her, but he was still shoved around several tis.
The security guards couldn’t get in from outside. Yvonne had no choice but to co out from behind her desk to help Vincent Reed protect Wendy Winters and prevent an accident.
Seeing her approach, Vincent Reed pushed Wendy Winters toward her.
"Protect Wendy!"
After saying this, he turned to face the paparazzi and reporters, roaring at them, "All of you, get out!"
These people were desperate for a scoop; they wouldn’t listen to him. They just kept pushing their way inside.
Soone managed to squeeze in front of Wendy Winters, only to be yanked back by the person behind them. The two jostled back and forth until they ended up stumbling toward Wendy.
Yvonne quickly moved to block them and was forcefully slamd into by both people. Her lower back crashed hard against the corner of the desk.
She hissed in pain.
It was already incredibly painful, but then Vincent Reed pulled Wendy Winters over, bumping into Yvonne again. She slamd into the sa desk corner, and the pain imdiately brought tears to her eyes.
And Vincent Reed? He just held Wendy Winters in his arms and lowered his head to kiss her...
