Yvonne Sutton blinked, finding it hard to believe what she had just heard.

"You’re saying you want to be Wyatt Shaw’s mistress?"

"Yes," Candice Yates said, facing Yvonne directly.

"And you’re kind enough to give a heads-up, telling not to worry because you’re not after my spot?"

"A man of Mr. Shaw’s status will never have just one woman. He’s bound to have mistresses. But those other won might not be as sensible as I am—I only want Mr. Shaw’s money and have no other ambitions. Therefore, Mrs. Shaw, you should count yourself lucky that it’s ."

Yvonne looked at Candice Yates. ’She’s surprisingly direct.’

"You’re only after his money?"

"Yes. I... I need money. A lot of money. I only beca an actress because I heard they make good money, that’s why I got into this industry. But I have no background or connections, and it’s too hard to make a na for yourself in this business. I have to pay off my dad’s gambling debts, pay for my mom’s dical treatnts, and support my whole family. I have to bow to reality."

Yvonne had to laugh. "So that’s the plan you ca up with? But what makes you so sure Wyatt Shaw will even be interested in you?"

Candice Yates pursed her lips. "Miss Bell told I look a lot like a woman nad Hannah Abbott, and Hannah was the only woman Mr. Shaw ever truly loved. She died. I can be her stand-in. Mr. Shaw will definitely accept ."

Yvonne exhaled. ’What is wrong with this world? Everyone is crazier than the last.’

’Wyatt Shaw is crazy, Jean Bell is crazy, and this Candice Yates is crazy, too.’

She suddenly felt a flicker of fear. ’What if one day I go crazy too...?’

"If you’re telling this because you want my permission, then I don’t give it. And I suggest you find so self-respect. If you’re saying this to warn , then you’re seriously overestimating yourself. I suggest you go tell Wyatt Shaw to divorce yourself. And if you’re just telling this so I know, then fine. Now I know."

With that, Yvonne turned and walked out.

That night, Wyatt Shaw had her watch a movie with him, though they certainly got up to other things in the process. Before the movie ended, Yvonne had fallen asleep in Wyatt Shaw’s arms.

In the middle of the night, she was suddenly shoved away, nearly tumbling off the sofa. Still reeling from the shock, she looked over at Wyatt Shaw to see him sitting bolt upright, gasping for breath.

"What’s wrong?"

Yvonne reached for Wyatt Shaw’s arm, but he flung her hand away again as he turned to face her.

His face was pale, his gaze cold and sharp as he stared intently at her.

"Who are you?"

Those three words made Yvonne’s blood run cold. She stared at him in stunned disbelief.

Wyatt Shaw shot to his feet, ran to the switch, and—FLICK—turned on the light. When he looked at her again, his gaze was clearly that of a stranger, wary and guarded.

Before he could speak again, Yvonne frowned and said, "I’m your wife."

Wyatt Shaw seed stunned by this statent. He stared at her for a long mont before growing agitated and starting to pace around the room. His eyes grew increasingly frantic, and he finally clutched his forehead as he sank onto the sofa.

Yvonne got up, poured a glass of water, and pressed it into his hands.

She sat back down, tilted her head to look at the fiber-optic star ceiling, and waited in silence.

After a long while, Wyatt Shaw moved over and wrapped his arms around her.

"I had a dream. I dreamt I was driving by the sea, and the car spun out of control, smashing through the guardrail and plunging into the ocean. That feeling of suffocation and pressure was so real, I felt like I had actually died."

Wyatt Shaw was truly terrified, clutching her tightly.

Yvonne pulled Wyatt Shaw into an embrace and gently patted his back.

In that mont, her heart ached for him. ’That wasn’t a dream,’ she thought. ’It really happened.’

"You were there, too."

"?"

"You were sitting right next to . We plunged into the ocean together. I kept looking for you, but I couldn’t find you anywhere..."

Yvonne sighed. ’That wasn’t . That was Hannah Abbott.’

Wyatt Shaw was so fragile in that mont that she couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth.

The next morning, when Yvonne woke up, Wyatt Shaw was gone from the room.

As if guided by a premonition, she went to the beach. Sure enough, Wyatt Shaw was there. He was wearing a leather jacket with a cigarette dangling from his lips, building a sandcastle with Candice Yates.

Yvonne let out a laugh—a laugh that surprised even herself. Then she turned and saw Jean Bell.

Jean was staring fixedly at the pair, as if torturing herself.

Yvonne shook her head and kept walking.

"He’ll suddenly rember at so point, and then he’ll push you away."

Jean Bell murmured, as if to herself, but also for Yvonne to hear.

Yvonne shrugged. "It’s better than being kept in a state of confusion."

"Aren’t you afraid he’ll leave you?"

"It’s not like I can’t live without him. What’s there to be afraid of?"

Hearing this, Jean Bell suddenly grew furious. "You don’t even love him that much! What right do you have to marry him, while I—after everything I’ve done for him—am just a regular friend!"

"You regret letting him go, don’t you? You think if you’d just held on, you’d be in my position now. But have you ever stopped to think? You were the one who clung to him, and you were also the one who let him go. From start to finish, he only ever saw you as a regular friend. It was all just your own wishful thinking."

"You don’t know anything. What gives you the right to say that?"

"Because he’s Wyatt Shaw. He wouldn’t stoop to deceiving anyone. A lover is a lover, and a friend is a friend. He’s always known the difference."

The one who couldn’t tell the difference was Jean Bell. And she was the one going crazy.

Over the next few days, Wyatt Shaw continued to act normal, except he spent a lot of ti at the beach.

Once, Claire Lawrence saw the two of them and later warned Yvonne to keep a close eye on Wyatt Shaw, lest he get snatched away by that little vixen, Candice Yates.

That afternoon, Jean Bell asked Yvonne to go with her along the island’s ring road to scout a suitable location for an outdoor photoshoot.

"I might have to do so climbing, so if there’s an accident, you’ll need to provide aid."

This was Jean Bell’s reason for asking her to co along. As the on-set doctor, Yvonne couldn’t really refuse, even though she disliked Jean.

Only after getting into the car did she realize Candice Yates was also there.

Seeing her, Candice Yates sat up straight and greeted her.

Yvonne gave her an indifferent glance, then turned her head away and ignored her.

The island wasn’t very large, and the ring road had only been built last year to facilitate its future developnt.

Jean Bell was driving a bit fast. Yvonne told her to slow down, but she didn’t listen.

Just then, Yvonne noticed a car following them. Looking closer, it seed to be Wyatt Shaw’s car.

"Wait, pull over. I think that’s Wyatt Shaw..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Jean Bell wrench the steering wheel, sending the car hurtling toward the guardrail.

Yvonne had no ti to react. The car had already smashed through the guardrail and plunged off the cliff face. The world spun violently before the car landed sowhere with a heavy thud.

Yvonne blacked out for a mont. When she opened her eyes, she found herself hanging upside down in her seat, blood dripping steadily downward. DRIP. DRIP. DRIP.

She took a sharp breath and quickly looked to her side.

Jean Bell was also hanging upside down, her face sared with blood, clearly seriously injured. But her expression was one of euphoria, as if she were waiting for so thrilling, long-awaited mont.

And just at that mont, the car lurched violently, sliding down a bit further.

Yvonne held her breath. Peeking out the shattered window, she saw that the car was perched on the edge of a cliff and was still sliding. They could be sent plunging to their deaths at any second!
