Her light, fresh scent quickly intoxicated him. The bite turned into a kiss.

She passively endured his overwhelming force.

As usual, he only cared about his own pleasure, completely disregarding whether she lived or died.

When he was finished, he tossed her the pills. She threw them straight into the trash can.

He was taken aback. "Why aren’t you taking them?"

"After you forced half a bottle of birth control pills down my throat, do you really think I can still get pregnant?" she said lifelessly.

He froze.

Beyond shock, a more complex, inscrutable emotion swirled in his eyes.

"What did the doctor say?"

"Nothing much. Just that I can’t have children anymore." She nonchalantly wrapped her clothes around herself, not forgetting to remind him, "When you have ti, let’s go get the divorce certificate."

Theodore Grant said nothing more, and the two of them fell silent.

The butler ca up from downstairs and knocked on the door, his voice urgent. "Sir, there’s a call from the old residence. They said the Old Master is critically ill and asked you to return at once."

Theodore Grant picked up his jacket and looked at Natalie Morgan. "Until we’re divorced, you’re still a daughter-in-law of the Grant family. Co back to the old residence with ."

Aside from Theodore Grant, the rest of the Grant family wasn’t particularly nice to her, but they were never harsh.

Natalie Morgan had no reason to refuse.

When they arrived at the old residence, the main hall was filled not only with close friends and relatives but also with people coming and going to visit the Old Master.

Theodore Grant was summoned to the inner hall.

Natalie Morgan stood alone in the outer hall, feeling a little lost.

The Old Master was over ninety years old, and his health had been poor for the past few years. The Grant family had tried all sorts of thods to help him live a few more years.

’It seems he’s not going to make it this ti.’

Theodore Grant was the only one of his generation allowed to visit him at his bedside.

After he ca out of the inner hall, Lucas Grant pulled him aside to ask, "Your grandfather... can he hold on?"

"Felix said he can last half a year at most."

"Then what are you waiting for? Get Natalie Morgan pregnant. Only her blood, after she’s pregnant, can save your grandfather."

The Old Master’s illness required a full-body blood transfusion, and Natalie Morgan, whose blood contained a rare genetic molecule, was the ideal candidate.

If Natalie Morgan beca pregnant, the antibodies in her blood would increase severalfold, even tens of tis over.

If the Old Master received a transfusion of her blood, he could live for at least another ten years.

Theodore Grant remained silent.

Dissatisfied, Lucas Grant continued, "You’ve been married for two years, and there’s been no news from her. Is it your problem or hers? Theodore, you need to understand, without your grandfather, our family’s living Buddha, the Grant family’s fortune will be affected for more than a decade. Get this done, and quickly."

When he walked out to the main hall, Theodore Grant lifted his gaze to Natalie Morgan.

She was standing there quietly with her eyes slightly lowered, looking more like an uninvolved outsider.

「On the way back.」

The man gripped the steering wheel, his eyes glancing sideways at Natalie Morgan more than once.

After he’d done it too many tis, she turned her head to stare out the car window.

"Will your mother get good treatnt at a hospital in so small town? You should transfer her back. I’ll talk to the hospital; we can owe them the dical fees for now."

She didn’t make a sound.

’Such a belated offer is aningless.’

"There was no need to sell the jade bracelet for a couple hundred thousand. If you need money, you can tell ."

Natalie Morgan’s expression flickered.

In their two years of marriage, this was the first ti she had ever heard Theodore Grant say the words, "if you need money, you can tell ."

Then, he took out a gold card and handed it to her. "You can use this for your daily spending."

Natalie Morgan lowered her gaze to the card but didn’t take it.

She replied with cold ridicule, "I don’t need it."

"Stop acting out. Be good."

Theodore Grant attributed Natalie Morgan’s request for a divorce to her throwing a tantrum.

Natalie Morgan rarely made decisions, but once she did, she wouldn’t easily change her mind.

’A marriage of three is too crowded.’

Theodore Grant didn’t love her, and she no longer wanted to love this man who had left her covered in scars.

"Theodore Grant, I’m not throwing a tantrum." She had already thought it through very clearly. "I really don’t want to be Mrs. Grant anymore. Let’s get a divorce."

"You insist on divorcing ?" His patience wore thin. "Natalie Morgan, what right do you have?"

"I have no right, but I’m willing to walk away."

A heart doesn’t grow cold in an instant.

For two years, she had tried her best to be a good wife, putting in more effort than a servant to please him.

’Just wait a little longer,’ she had told herself countless tis, ’and he’ll warm up to . Just wait a little longer, and he’ll surely see the good in .’

’How ridiculous. It was all just a dream I made for myself.’

Half a bottle of birth control pills had taken away her right to be a mother and also made her see this marriage for what it truly was.

She had decided to let go of the man who had occupied her entire youth.

The car screeched to a halt, and Natalie Morgan nearly slamd into the windshield from the inertia.

The man’s impatient voice cut through the air. "Get out."

She unbuckled her seatbelt and pushed the door open. The mont her foot touched the ground, the car shot forward.

Her phone vibrated.

She picked it up. It was a call from the Grant family’s doctor.

His na was Felix Finch. He was Theodore Grant’s childhood friend and also her senior from university.

"Felix."

"Natalie, I’m going to tell you a few things to keep in mind for preparing for pregnancy. You should take notes."

’Preparing for pregnancy?’

She asked, confused, "Why all of a sudden... are we preparing for pregnancy?"

"Didn’t Theodore tell you?"

"No."

"The Old Master’s illness, as it stands, can only be treated with a blood transfusion. Your blood contains a rare genetic molecule, and the antibodies only reach their peak levels during pregnancy..."

Natalie Morgan didn’t rember what else Felix Finch said after that.

Her heart turned cold, inch by inch.

The last bit of warmth was drained away.

Standing under the scorching sun, she felt as if she were in an ice cavern.

’So, Theodore Grant’s kind gestures just now—giving the card, refusing the divorce—it was all because I still have value to him.’

’Only when the last drop of my blood has been sucked dry will my mission be complete.’

"Natalie, are you listening?"

Natalie Morgan humd in acknowledgnt. "Thank you, Felix. I understand."

"Okay, I’ll hang up now."

「Back at their ho.」

Natalie Morgan picked up her suitcase, ready to leave.

The butler hurried forward to stop her. "Ma’am, are you really leaving?"

"Yes. I’ve left the divorce papers on the nightstand in the bedroom. Please remind Theodore Grant to sign them and have him set a ti for us to go finalize it."

The butler pressed his lips together, looking troubled. "Does Sir know about this?"

"He knows."

"Ma’am..."

Natalie Morgan left the ho she had lived in for two years.

’In truth, it was never really a ho.’

There was no loving husband for her to rely on, nor were there any sweet mories she was reluctant to leave behind.

In two years—more than seven hundred days—she had seen Theodore Grant fewer tis than an employee at the Grant Group.

It was just a cage that had imprisoned her.

’Escaping is the right choice.’

Natalie Morgan returned to the Morgan family ho.

It was a staff dormitory building from the early nineties. Her family’s apartnt was on the third floor.

It wasn’t large, but it was enough for a family of four.

After her father was arrested and imprisoned, everything the family owned had been confiscated.

After putting her suitcase away, she took a taxi to Unity Hospital.
