Aiden Sinclair searched the entire hospital but couldn’t find a trace of Nina Walsh. He turned around to settle the score with Brian Sherman.
Brian Sherman trembled. "Mr. Sinclair, we were just following your orders."
Aiden Sinclair was furious. "When did I ever tell you to touch Nina Walsh?"
Brian Sherman said, "Wasn’t it you? Your mother called personally and told it was your idea. She even said she’d give twenty million after it was done."
Aiden Sinclair understood at once. Sophia Sawyer was acting in his na again.
Aiden Sinclair left the hospital in a rage. As soon as he got in the car, he ordered Jay Keane, "Release a statent to the dia. The engagent is canceled. I have nothing to do with Clara Jacobs."
Jay Keane was stunned for a mont, but his professionalism kept him from questioning his boss.
Five minutes later, Jay Keane ended his call with the PR departnt and turned to look at Aiden Sinclair.
Aiden Sinclair’s expression was grim. A splash of red was seeping through his white shirt.
Before Jay Keane could voice his concern, a call ca in from Sophia Sawyer.
Sophia Sawyer shouted over the phone, "Aiden Sinclair, who told you to call off the engagent? Retract the news announcent right now! How is Clara supposed to show her face in Crestfall after this?"
Aiden Sinclair suppressed his fury, his voice terrifyingly cold. "Mrs. Sinclair, if you’ve grown tired of Crestfall, I can send you to Lyria to live out your golden years."
On the other end of the line, a chill ran down Sophia Sawyer’s spine.
Lyria was the poorest country for the great families, a place with the highest cri rate. Forget living out one’s golden years there; you’d be lucky just to survive.
Aiden Sinclair’s tone wasn’t a simple threat. When soone touched his reverse scale, he would eliminate them without rcy, regardless of who they were.
’Was his reverse scale that woman, or the child in her womb?’
In any case, Sophia Sawyer didn’t dare to press her luck. "I understand. I won’t interfere in your affairs again. Do as you please."
After Sophia Sawyer hung up, Clara Jacobs sat beside her with a tear-streaked face. "Mom, are you abandoning too? Aiden broke off our engagent. I can’t go back to the entertainnt industry, and I can’t stay in Crestfall anymore. How am I supposed to go on living?"
"Stop crying. I only said I wouldn’t interfere in his affairs, not that I wouldn’t take care of you. Co here, I’ll tell you what to do..."
Sophia Sawyer beckoned Clara Jacobs closer and began to ticulously lay out a plan for her.
...
anwhile, Milo Preston had already driven Nina Walsh a dozen or so kiloters away from the hospital.
Milo Preston glanced at the woman in the back seat through the rearview mirror. She was drenched in sweat, her face deathly pale, and her whole body was trembling.
"Nina Walsh, what’s wrong? Don’t scare ."
Nina Walsh clutched her stomach with both hands, her voice as faint as a whisper. "Take to a hospital... Not the city hospital, a small... a small clinic will do."
Without a second thought, Milo Preston found a small, private clinic nearby.
A nurse saw Nina Walsh clutching her stomach, glanced down, and noticed the red bloodstains on her calf.
"Oh my god, what is wrong with you? She’s pregnant and bleeding, and you didn’t notice?!"
Milo Preston froze on the spot. ’Pregnant?!’
By the ti he snapped out of it, Nina Walsh had already been taken into the ergency room.
A middle-aged female doctor ca in and began examining her. "How far along are you?"
Nina Walsh gritted her teeth against the pain. "Fifteen weeks and three days."
The doctor was very experienced and quickly assessed her condition.
"You’re almost four months along, but the babies in your belly are smaller than a normal three-month-old fetus. And it’s twins. Haven’t you had any prenatal checkups? Didn’t your doctor tell you to be on bed rest?"
The doctor couldn’t help but lecture her while providing treatnt.
Nina Walsh turned her head away, clenching her jaw in silence as tears stread down her face.
The doctor glanced at her, and her heart softened. "Miss, do you still want these babies? If you don’t, I can perform the procedure for you. To be honest, these two children... their developnt isn’t good..."
’Does she want these babies?’
’Can she keep them?’
Nina Walsh murmured, lost. "Doctor, the father of my children is getting engaged to another woman at the end of the month. Can I keep them?"
...
Milo Preston returned after paying the fees and was waiting outside the operating room when he got a call from Aiden Sinclair.
Milo Preston had gone to the hospital today specifically to visit Aiden Sinclair, having heard he was injured and admitted.
"Milo, where are you?"
Milo Preston was just about to say he was with Nina Walsh when Aiden Sinclair, who seed to be in a rush on the other end, said hurriedly, "I’ve already been discharged. Don’t bother coming," and hung up.
Just then, Nina Walsh was wheeled out of the operating room. Milo Preston, no longer concerned with the call, put his phone away and went to check on her.
When the female doctor saw him, she gave him a hostile look. "You’re her ex-boyfriend?"
Milo Preston looked awkward, opening his mouth but stamring, unable to get the words out. The doctor couldn’t be bothered to listen to his explanation. "The patient is very weak, and she was brought in too late. The twins in her womb couldn’t be saved."
’Twins?! They couldn’t be saved?!’
Milo Preston stood there, stunned.
Nina Walsh was taken to a patient room, and a short while later, Milo Preston followed her in.
Milo Preston looked a little awkward, not just because he knew about Nina Walsh’s private affairs, but also because of the incident with Celeste.
The last ti, he had arranged for Nina Walsh to collaborate with Celeste, but Clara Jacobs had ruined it.
Right in front of him, Clara Jacobs had pressured Celeste’s Morgan Monroe, and Morgan Monroe had broken the contract, also right in front of him. At the ti, Milo Preston hadn’t said a word.
The reason Milo Preston hadn’t spoken up was because Clara Jacobs had told him at the ti that Nina Walsh was Aiden Sinclair’s forr woman.
Milo Preston might be a player, but he abided by one principle: you don’t ss with a friend’s wife. And a brother’s ex was to be avoided at all costs.
He had been in complete shock that day. By the ti he snapped out of it, Nina Walsh was already gone.
Recently, he had also seen online what Nina Walsh had been going through. Thinking back on it, he felt he had wronged her.
"Your babies... were they Aiden’s?" Milo Preston asked quietly.
Nina Walsh didn’t deny it. Her face ashen, she pleaded, "Young Master Preston, what was between him and ended a long ti ago. Now that the babies are gone, there’s absolutely nothing connecting us anymore. Can you please keep this a secret for ?"
A pair of twins, gone just like that.
Even a stranger would feel a sense of loss hearing those words, let alone soone who had witnessed it firsthand.
Milo Preston already felt guilty toward Nina Walsh, and seeing her pitiable state, he nodded in agreent. "Okay, I’ll keep your secret."
"Thank you, Young Master Preston."
After thanking him, Nina Walsh borrowed Milo Preston’s phone to call Michelle Quinn.
Michelle Quinn arrived quickly. Milo Preston entrusted Nina Walsh to her care and left.
Michelle Quinn couldn’t help but chide her. "I told you the Shermans were up to no good. Why did you insist on going?"
Nina Walsh took off the necklace from around her neck. Hidden inside it was a pinhole cara.
Five years ago, she had already taken the fall for Wendy Sherman and served three years in prison. She couldn’t spend the rest of her life shouldering the bla for a murder she didn’t commit.
"You were too reckless. Was it worth it, sacrificing the two children in your womb for this?"
Michelle Quinn rembered what Milo Preston had told her at the door just now—that Nina Walsh had lost the babies in her womb. Her own heart ached terribly at the thought.
’Nina Walsh was just in the operating room... how much pain must she have been in?’
