Apologize? Su Qingning was baffled. She didn’t understand why Bai Chengfeng would need to apologize to Lin Xiao. But her confusion was nothing compared to the sheer shock of the guards in the security room. Who could believe it? The second young master of the prominent Bai Family was actually apologizing to a beggar like Lin Xiao.

To be honest, even Lin Xiao himself was a little surprised.

Has this guy been drinking? Or did he sohow find out about my background?

"What do you an?" Su Qingning asked.

"Well, I feel that my actions at Chunyu Pavilion were inappropriate. I’ve reflected on it seriously and think I should apologize to Brother Lin Xiao!" As he spoke, Bai Chengfeng glanced at Lin Xiao and smiled. "Lin Xiao, will you accept my apology?"

"Since Young Master Bai is so sincere, why wouldn’t I?" Lin Xiao replied with a grin.

"Excellent! I like your magnanimity. Co on, let’s shake hands and let bygones be bygones!"

Bai Chengfeng proactively extended his hand. Lin Xiao didn’t refuse, and their hands clasped together firmly.

At that mont, Lin Xiao felt a tiny, sharp prick in his palm. In the next second, he sneered inwardly. He finally understood why this piece of trash had shown up. He wasn’t here to apologize at all; he was clearly here to poison him.

And with the Seven-Star Poison, no less. It was the sa poison that Peng Bo of the Ghost dicine Sect had used on Su Qingning’s mother.

Could it be that this trash is also Peng Bo’s disciple? I thought he’d learned of my identity and was scared witless, hence the apology. But I never expected him to harbor such malicious intent. It’s a sha this idiot doesn’t know I’m immune to all poisons.

Suddenly, Lin Xiao once again thought of the Gu poison in Su Qingning. Back at Chunyu Pavilion, he had only suspected that this lowlife was the one who had afflicted her. But now, he was certain. It was definitely this scumbag’s doing.

Realizing this, Lin Xiao smiled and gave his wrist a little shake before letting go of Bai Chengfeng’s hand.

A treacherous, triumphant glint flashed in Bai Chengfeng’s eyes. He then laughed and said, "Qingning, I’ve finished what I ca to do. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going!"

Su Qingning wanted to ask him to stay, or at least offer him a drink. After all, he had helped her out trendously. But before she could even speak, Bai Chengfeng was already heading for the exit.

"Young Master Bai, wait a mont! I’ll see you out!" Lin Xiao said cheerfully.

Hearing this, Su Qingning sighed to herself. She was pleased that Lin Xiao understood so social graces, but seeing him act so fawningly toward Bai Chengfeng left her feeling a little disappointed.

"Sure!" Bai Chengfeng said with a smile.

Despite his words, he couldn’t help but curse internally. What a country bumpkin. A beggar who’s never seen the world. I’ve already poisoned you, yet you still want to see off? Well, seeing as you’re so braindead, once I have your wife under my control, I’ll be sure to bring her to your grave for a round.

At this thought, a malicious grin spread across Bai Chengfeng’s face.

"Young Master Bai, what’s making you so happy?" Lin Xiao asked with a laugh.

"It’s nothing. Alright, you can head back now. I’m leaving."

How could Bai Chengfeng possibly admit to poisoning Lin Xiao? It wasn’t that he was afraid of him; in his eyes, Lin Xiao was just a filthy beggar, not worth a second thought. The reason he didn’t want to tell Lin Xiao was his fear that the damned beggar would imdiately tell Su Qingning. What if, through her connections, Su Qingning actually found soone who could cure the poison? Bai Chengfeng couldn’t allow that to happen. His goal was to kill Lin Xiao, quietly and without a trace.

Lin Xiao gave a faint smile. "Are you sure it isn’t because you’re so happy about poisoning ?"

BOOM!

Lin Xiao’s voice wasn’t loud, but it struck Bai Chengfeng’s ears like a thunderclap, leaving his mind completely blank. He had never, ever dread that Lin Xiao would actually know he had been poisoned.

"You... you damned beggar! H-How the hell did you know?"

Lin Xiao looked at Bai Chengfeng with a placid smile. "Guess."

Bai Chengfeng’s mind raced. Suddenly, he rembered that after poisoning the beggar, an involuntary look of smugness had crossed his face.

Could it be? Did this damned beggar figure it out just from seeing my expression? That would make him far too clever.

Bai Chengfeng refused to believe this beggar was that sharp. If he were really that smart, why would he be a beggar in the first place?

But then again, he thought, Who cares how he found out? What good does it do him, anyway?

A sinister sneer suddenly returned to Bai Chengfeng’s face. "So what if you know, you stinking beggar? It doesn’t matter. Before long, you’ll be bleeding from all seven orifices as you die!"

Lin Xiao gave him a thumbs-up. "Young Master Bai is truly ruthless," he said nonchalantly. "But, Young Master Bai, what if I happen to be a master of poison myself? What if, at the very mont you were poisoning , I just so happened to poison you back?"

As soon as these words were out, pfft! Bai Chengfeng burst into uproarious laughter, as if he’d just heard the joke of the century. He laughed so hard he felt his jaw might split.

"You damned beggar, have you lost your mind? A master of poison? You’ll say anything, won’t you? If trash like you is a poison master, then I, Bai Chengfeng, will call you father!"

Lin Xiao smiled. "I have no interest in a braindead son like you. But if you don’t believe , why don’t you try taking a deep breath? See if you feel a pain in your heart."

"Hah! You think I’m an idiot like you?" Bai Chengfeng scoffed.

"Is it true or not? You’ll know if you try."

"Damn it, fine! I’ll try!" Bai Chengfeng shot Lin Xiao a contemptuous look and disdainfully took a deep breath.

The next second, an excruciating pain lanced through his heart. His face turned deathly pale, and he nearly collapsed to the ground.

"You damned beggar, what the hell did you do to ?" Bai Chengfeng howled in agony.

Lin Xiao shrugged. "Want to know?"

"Cut the crap! If you don’t want to die, tell now!"

"Fine. First, you tell about planting the Gu in my wife," Lin Xiao said, his voice turning ice-cold.

BOOM!

The words struck Bai Chengfeng like a physical blow. His scalp went numb, and the hairs all over his body stood on end. A cold sweat instantly soaked his back. The one thing he never dread would happen, had happened. This stinking beggar actually knew he had placed a Gu in Su Qingning.

How did he know?

Who on earth was this beggar?

A flood of questions erupted in his mind, and his thoughts descended into chaos.

"You... you damned beggar! If you want to live, give the antidote right now!"

Lin Xiao let out a contemptuous sneer. "You want the antidote? Fine. Kneel and beg ."
