Pei Yanzi stood gracefully at the entrance of the security room, dressed in a flowing white gown. A faint light shone upon her, illuminating the shy smile on her face and making her appear like a captivating sprite.
Lin Xiao smiled the mont he caught sight of her. He was just about to agree to Pei Donglai's request to have a good talk with Pei Yanzi. After all, she had recently been thinking about entering the entertainnt industry.
When Pei Donglai saw his sister, however, his heart sank. It wasn't that he wasn't happy to see her. Rather, he was thinking about the fact that she liked Lin Xiao. Even without knowing Lin Xiao's true identity, Pei Donglai had felt his sister was sowhat unworthy of him. Now that he knew the truth, he felt it even more keenly. She simply wasn't good enough for Lin Xiao. Even if Lin Xiao were single, she still wouldn't be a match for him—not to ntion the fact that he was already married. Yes, his current concern was that his sister would only fall deeper and deeper, and in the end, she would be the one to suffer. He resolved to have a serious talk with her when they got ho that evening and extinguish that little fla in her heart once and for all.
"Yanzi, what brings you here?" Lin Xiao asked with a smile.
Pei Yanzi smiled shyly in return. "Brother Lin, I wasn't busy, so I thought I'd co see you and my brother!"
Lin Xiao nodded. "You've co at the right ti. There's sothing I wanted to talk to you about!"
Pei Yanzi's beautiful eyes lit up. "Brother Lin, what do you want to talk about?"
Just as Lin Xiao was about to speak, Pei Donglai interjected, "Captain, I'll get back to work!"
Lin Xiao nodded.
Pei Donglai rose and walked toward the exit. As he passed his sister, his brow furrowed slightly. He said in a low voice, "Yanzi, have a good chat with the Captain. Don't be difficult."
Pei Yanzi obediently nodded.
After watching Pei Donglai leave, Lin Xiao said to Pei Yanzi, "Have a seat."
She obediently sat down on a nearby chair.
"Want so water?" Lin Xiao asked.
Pei Yanzi shook her head. "I'm not thirsty, Brother Lin. Please, don't go to any trouble."
"Alright, then let's just chat."
Pei Yanzi nodded obediently.
Lin Xiao smiled at her and asked, "How was Chu Xiangxue's concert?"
"It was great! I really liked it! Thank you, Brother Lin!" Pei Yanzi said with excitent.
It seed she genuinely loved it. Otherwise, her eyes wouldn't have lit up with such excitent at the ntion of Chu Xiangxue's concert.
"You're welco. I'm glad you liked it," Lin Xiao said with a smile.
Pei Yanzi nodded.
"Do you still want to be a star?" Lin Xiao continued with a smile.
A shy blush suddenly colored Pei Yanzi's pretty face. After a mont of silence, she nodded again, this ti with great seriousness.
"Yes. It's all I've been dreaming about these past few days!"
Her words made Lin Xiao chuckle. "Actually, Yanzi, I'll support you no matter what you choose to do, but..."
A jolt went through Pei Yanzi's heart. "Brother Lin, but what?"
"It's just... do you understand the entertainnt industry?" Lin Xiao countered.
Pei Yanzi shook her head.
"Do you know that the entertainnt industry is just a marketplace for fa and fortune? It's a giant dye vat, and it causes many people to lose their way until they beco completely unrecognizable."
Pei Yanzi fell silent. A hint of red appeared in her captivating eyes, and it looked like she was about to cry.
Lin Xiao, however, continued, "Of course, I'm not saying this to dampen your enthusiasm. My stance remains the sa—I will support whatever you choose to do. But I have to tell you so things in advance. You're in college right now, which is a relatively simple environnt, but the entertainnt industry is different. To put it harshly, it's a place that devours people whole. Don't just look at Chu Xiangxue, all glamorous and adored by millions; her journey hasn't been easy at all, and that's even with her family's incredibly powerful background. In fact, it isn't just Chu Xiangxue. Once people enter that circle, many of them find they are no longer in control of their own lives."
Pei Yanzi's eyes grew even redder, and it looked as if she might burst into tears at any mont.
Lin Xiao couldn't tell if his words had scared her or if she was just a bit too sensitive. In any case, she was on the verge of tears.
"Yanzi, don't be afraid," Lin Xiao added. "I'm not saying all this to frighten you or make you give up on your dream. I just want to tell you the truth about the entertainnt industry. Now, tell your thoughts."
Pei Yanzi remained silent.
Lin Xiao wasn't in a hurry and began to sip his tea leisurely.
After a mont, Pei Yanzi suddenly looked up at him. "Brother Lin, thank you for your kindness and for telling all this, but I still want to enter that world."
Lin Xiao nodded. He had known Pei Yanzi for a while now. She might seem gentle and weak, but deep down, she was an extrely resolute person. In other words, she wouldn't easily change her mind about sothing she had decided on.
"Yanzi, I support you. But I have to ask, why are you so set on joining this industry?"
"Because I want my brother to have a better life," Pei Yanzi said seriously. "He's sacrificed so much for , and I want to do sothing for him in return."
"And what is your definition of a 'better life'?" Lin Xiao asked. "Fine clothes and exquisite food? Riding in luxury cars? Or being held in high esteem, admired and pursued by countless people wherever you go?"
Pei Yanzi looked at Lin Xiao with earnest eyes. "No, none of those," she said, just as earnestly. "I just want to earn so money so my brother doesn't have to work so hard."
Lin Xiao fell silent. You couldn't call her materialistic. After all, she had experienced true poverty, and there's nothing shaful about wanting to earn money.
"What if," Lin Xiao began, "and this is a hypothetical, what if you suddenly received a huge sum of money, so much that you could never spend it all? Would you still want to enter the entertainnt industry?"
Yes, if she would just say she didn't want to enter the entertainnt industry, he would give her a sum of money so large she would be set for life.
But Pei Yanzi shook her head. "Brother Lin, I think even if I suddenly received a fortune, I would still want to join the entertainnt industry."
Lin Xiao watched her with great interest. He had a feeling she had just lied to him. She claid she wanted to enter the industry to make money and ease her brother's burden, but she still insisted on it even when offered a fortune. That ant it obviously wasn't about the money. So, what was the real reason?
Lin Xiao smiled. "Yanzi, there's no one else here. Tell honestly, why do you really want to get into showbiz?"
Pei Yanzi fell silent again. However, a tempting blush had crept onto her fair cheeks.
A mont later, she took a deep breath and looked up, eting Lin Xiao's gaze directly.
"Brother Lin," she began, looking him straight in the eye, "since we're being so honest, I won't hide it from you anymore. I like you. I want to enter the entertainnt industry because of you."
