The exasperated voice on the other end of the line made it clear that the person was furious.
Lin Xiao chuckled.
"And you are?" he asked.
"Xue Chongshan!"
"Oh. What can I do for you?" Lin Xiao asked, still smiling.
"Kid, you damn well killed my son! I’m going to make you pay with your blood!"
"Hmm, that’s an interesting thing to say."
Lin Xiao grinned at Su Qingning, gesturing for her to continue with her breakfast, then stood up and sat down on the sofa.
"Xue Chongshan, is it? How about this? Instead of raging impotently, I’ll give you a chance for revenge. Go find whoever you can, as many as you can, and we’ll set a ti to have a proper chat about this!"
Xue Chongshan was montarily stunned. In all his years, he had never t soone so brazen.
"Kid, you said that yourself!"
"Yeah, I did. It’s not like you were planning to let off anyway, and I’d like to see just how ruthless you can be. This way, we’re on the sa page."
"Fine! You’ve got guts. Three days from now, if you’re brave enough, co to the Xue Family estate!"
"No problem. See you then."
Xue Chongshan snorted coldly and was about to hang up, but Lin Xiao suddenly spoke again. "Xue Chongshan, I’ll give you one last piece of advice: don’t court death, and you won’t die. If you lose in three days, the consequence awaiting you will be the extermination of the entire Xue Family!"
A sudden chill shot through Xue Chongshan’s heart as an ominous premonition washed over him.
But then he reconsidered. His Xue Family was, after all, one of the three great families of Jinhai City. What can a stinking beggar do, even if he has so skills? This is an era where money makes the world go round. With enough of it, even the King of Hell would be willing to serve you.
At this thought, Xue Chongshan snorted with disdain.
"Kid, stop your damn posturing! I will personally send you to hell!"
Lin Xiao chuckled and hung up the phone.
He returned to the dining table where Su Qingning was watching him with imnse curiosity.
"Darling, why are you looking at so affectionately?" Lin Xiao smiled.
"Who was that on the phone?" Su Qingning asked.
She wasn’t really curious about the caller’s identity. Rather, she had noticed Lin Xiao’s expression darken slightly while he was on the sofa. Su Qingning was worried about him.
Lin Xiao smiled. "Just a so-called friend. He heard I married a rich woman and wanted to borrow so money. He got mad when I turned him down."
Su Qingning breathed a sigh of relief. So that’s what it was.
"Actually, if he wasn’t asking for too much and it was a genuine ergency, I could help," she offered.
A warmth spread through Lin Xiao’s heart.
"Silly girl, I know what I’m doing. Besides, all the money my wife earns is from her hard work, and I don’t intend to just throw it down the drain."
Su Qingning’s pretty face flushed red, and she buried her head, continuing her breakfast.
"Darling, what are we doing later?"
"Aren’t we going to see Chu Xiangxue?"
"We don’t have to. To be honest, I don’t really want to. I want to spend ti with just you. We could go to Disneyland, go bungee jumping—we could go anywhere we want, as long as it’s just the two of us."
Her heart ward at his words.
"Let’s save that for next ti. We’ve already promised Chu Xiangxue, so it wouldn’t be right to stand her up."
Lin Xiao sighed.
"Darling, you’re too kind. Aren’t you afraid Chu Xiangxue will steal away?"
"Hmph! If you could be stolen away that easily, it would just an you don’t like that much. That would be no loss of mine!"
Lin Xiao gave her a thumbs-up. He smiled and said, "Don’t worry, no one can steal away. Not unless you decide you don’t want ."
The words were ant to comfort Su Qingning, but who could have known they would turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy? At that mont, however, neither of them had any idea.
Su Qingning’s heart ward, and her lips couldn’t help but lift into a smile.
After she had eaten to her heart’s content, Lin Xiao drove her toward Chu Xiangxue’s villa. While waiting at a red light, he reached his hand out toward Su Qingning, and she instinctively placed her hand in his.
A surge of happiness washed over Lin Xiao. He had only intended to try holding her hand, thinking it would be difficult, but he never expected her to offer it so willingly. He held her hand tightly, even unabashedly planting a kiss on the back of it. A faint, pleasant fragrance drifted from her skin.
Su Qingning’s face turned red.
"Lin Xiao, you... be serious!"
"Sorry, darling, but I just can’t be serious when I’m looking at you."
Su Qingning was at a loss for words, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red.
As they arrived at Chu Xiangxue’s villa and Su Qingning was about to get out, Lin Xiao suddenly called out to her.
"Darling, hold on. Is that sothing on your eyelash?"
"What is it?"
"I’m not sure. It looks like a loose lash. Lean over a bit, let take a look."
Suspecting nothing, Su Qingning leaned toward Lin Xiao. He pretended to lean forward as well, then, with the speed of lightning, planted a kiss on her red lips and fled the car as if for his life.
Su Qingning froze, stunned for a full three seconds before she ca to her senses. But she wasn’t angry. Her face blushing, she pouted and said, "You’re so annoying, always trying to steal kisses!"
Standing at the entrance of the extravagantly luxurious villa, Lin Xiao pressed the doorbell. The massive gate slowly swung open. Lin Xiao naturally took Su Qingning’s hand as they walked inside.
The villa was expansive.
"This place is incredible!" Su Qingning couldn’t help but exclaim as she took in the interior decor.
"You like it?" Lin Xiao asked with a smile.
"This is a villa in the most exclusive part of Jinhai City; who wouldn’t like it?"
"I like it too, darling. So you’d better work hard and buy one in the future!"
Su Qingning was amused by his words. Her laugh was quite distinctive. When she wasn’t smiling, she was like a cold and aloof moon, but when she smiled, her enchanting peach blossom eyes beca watery and incredibly alluring.
Su Qingning had thought Lin Xiao was about to boast and offer to buy her one. To her surprise, he was actually encouraging her to work for it.
Yet, Su Qingning wasn’t annoyed. On the contrary, she felt a new sense of motivation.
"Alright, I’ll work hard. I’ll make sure you get your own villa in the best part of Jinhai City as soon as I can!"
"Hmm, and can we put only my na on the deed?" Lin Xiao began to push his luck.
To be honest, he was just teasing her. If Lin Xiao truly wanted it, he could have the keys to a luxurious villa just like this one delivered to him in minutes with a single word.
"Okay!" Su Qingning nodded.
"Darling, you’re the best. Let reward you with a kiss!"
"No!" Su Qingning quickly covered her small mouth in protest.
Just as Lin Xiao was about to speak, he suddenly sensed a hostile gaze.
