BOOM!

The sound rattled Lin Xiao, and his mind went completely blank. His body even trembled.

But his reason was still intact. Taking advantage of the brief pause in Pei Yanzi’s delirious speech, Lin Xiao quickly flicked the drop of Dragon Blood into her mouth. After it was done, he let out a heavy sigh of relief. He had narrowly avoided a grave mistake.

The healing properties of the Dragon Blood were extraordinarily potent. In just a few monts, the frenzy in Pei Yanzi’s eyes visibly faded. She was no longer wild, though she still clung to Lin Xiao. A mont later, her eyes beca clear again, the desire within them having vanished without a trace.

She’s finally back to normal.

"Yanzi, how are you feeling?" Lin Xiao asked softly.

Pei Yanzi ca to her senses. She was about to speak but suddenly realized she was in Lin Xiao’s arms. Instantly blushing with sha, she pushed him away and quickly turned her head aside. "Brother Lin Xiao," she stamred softly, "I-I’m fine!"

Lin Xiao smiled. "It’s good that you’re fine."

Pei Yanzi nodded, about to say more, but then the mory of her ordeal ca rushing back—everything she had just endured, everything Zhao Qingzhi had said. Her beautiful eyes instantly turned red. Large teardrops welled up, spilling over like pearls from a broken string. One after another, they ford streams, which soon beca a downpour.

Pei Yanzi began to weep. She bit down hard on her full lips, trying desperately to keep from sobbing aloud. But the pent-up anguish and the lingering terror from her near-death experience were too much to contain. She broke down and wailed.

Listening to her heartbreaking cries, Lin Xiao honestly felt a pang of sympathy for her. When Pei Donglai wasn’t around, she had been abused by her own relatives in every way imaginable. Now that her brother had finally returned, she was nearly violated by that beast. It was a testant to her resilience that she hadn’t been utterly crushed by it all; an ordeal like that would have broken most people. Lin Xiao wanted to offer words of comfort, but he hesitated. After suffering such a traumatic blow, a good, long cry might not be a bad thing. At least it will help her vent all the pain bottled up inside.

He watched her quietly. Suddenly, Pei Yanzi threw herself back into his embrace, clinging tightly to him as she cried even more pitifully. Lin Xiao was taken aback, his hands hovering in mid-air, completely unsure of what to do.

Reason tells I’m a married man. I should push her away. But seeing her cry so sorrowfully, he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. He let her hold onto him, thinking, Perhaps she just needs a solid shoulder to lean on for a while.

Fortunately, Pei Yanzi’s weeping didn’t last long. Her wails slowly subsided into sobs, and a few monts later, she stopped crying completely. The girl let go of Lin Xiao. Seeing the large wet patch her tears had left on his shirt, she spoke, her voice thick with embarrassnt and haste, "Brother Lin Xiao, I’m sorry, I... I didn’t an to!"

Lin Xiao smiled gently. "As long as you’re okay."

Her eyes were swollen like peaches, but she looked at him with profound gratitude. "Brother Lin Xiao, thank you for saving !"

"It was nothing, don’t worry about it. Co on, I’ll take you ho."

Pei Yanzi nodded obediently.

Back at the new house she shared with her brother, Lin Xiao said, "Yanzi, get so rest. I’m heading to work."

She nodded gratefully.

"Oh, and don’t tell your brother about this for now," Lin Xiao added. "If he finds out, there’s no telling what he might do."

Pei Yanzi nodded again. "Don’t worry, Brother Lin Xiao, I won’t tell him." In fact, even without his warning, she had no intention of telling her brother. He cared about her so much; if he knew what had happened, he might do sothing terrible, and she didn’t want him getting into trouble.

"Good," Lin Xiao said. "Rest assured, I will get justice for you."

Pei Yanzi’s gaze was filled with so much gratitude she was at a loss for words.

"Alright, go take a shower and get so proper rest. I’m off to work."

"Okay, Brother Lin Xiao. You go on. I’m fine now."

Lin Xiao gave a small wave and turned to leave.

Just as he stepped out of the Pei’s residence, his phone rang. It was a call from Xiao Shixiong.

Lin Xiao answered it. "Yes?"

"Boss, the matter regarding Zhao Tieshan has been fully resolved," Xiao Shixiong reported.

"Good. Anything else?"

"It’s about Miss Pei Yanzi," Xiao Shixiong said cautiously.

Lin Xiao chuckled. "Your information network is quite efficient. What, are you spying on ?"

The King of the Southern Town, Xiao Shixiong, was so frightened he nearly dropped to his knees. A joke? Spying on the Dragon Lord? I wouldn’t dare, not even if I had ten tis the courage!

"Boss, you... please don’t scare like that! I would never dare to spy on you. My n reported the situation to , so I took the liberty of investigating it."

"Relax, I’m not angry. Tell what you found."

"The incident was orchestrated by Zhao Qingzhi. He had a girl nad Xiao Xiao from the Kang family—a third-rate family in Jinling City—drug Miss Pei Yanzi. My question is, Boss, should I eliminate those two pieces of trash?"

"Don’t touch Zhao Qingzhi yet. He’s mine. The Zhao Family owes for more than just this. As for that so-called Kang family, wipe them out. And absorb their assets into Myth Corporation."

Myth Corporation was the comrcial empire Lin Xiao was building for Su Qingning. He had, of course, chosen the na himself.

"Consider it done, Boss. I would have done so even without your order."

"Then go do it."

"As you command!"

Lin Xiao hung up and drove back to the bar, where he imdiately spotted Pei Donglai.

"Co here."

Pei Donglai hurried over, asking respectfully, "Captain, what are your orders?"

"What’s wrong with your phone? I couldn’t reach you."

Pei Donglai scratched his head in embarrassnt. "I’m sorry, Captain. My phone’s broken, and I haven’t had a chance to get it fixed."

"Don’t bother fixing it. Go buy a new one, and get one for Yanzi, too. I’ll reimburse you."

When he had rescued Pei Yanzi, Lin Xiao noticed her phone was an old, battered model.

Pei Donglai was taken aback by the offer. "Captain, I... I have money!"

"Less talk. That’s an order."

Pei Donglai wasn’t the type to beco emotional over a small act of kindness; he had stared death in the face countless tis. But Lin Xiao’s constant generosity moved him deeply. He knew that Lin Xiao himself used an old, beat-up phone, yet here he was, telling him to buy a top-of-the-line model for himself and his sister. How could he not be touched by such a gesture?

"Captain, I... I understand," Pei Donglai said, his eyes turning red.

"Good. Take a two-hour break and go buy the phones."

Pei Donglai nodded quickly and left.

After sending him off, Lin Xiao was about to head to the security room for so tea when a dazzling sports car ca racing toward him at breakneck speed, seemingly intent on running him down.
