The next morning.

Cui Yun went to pay his respects to Cui Xuan.

When he arrived, Cui Yang was also there.

Due to Cui Bai’s injury yesterday, the couple had an argunt, and currently, they were having their al in silence without conversation. The room was as quiet as death. Nanny Fang, who was serving them, found it hard even to breathe. Seeing Cui Yun coming, she heaved a sigh of relief.

Cui Xuan managed a smile when she saw him: "Have you eaten?"

Cui Yun had indeed eaten before coming.

But he replied: "I haven’t."

Cui Xuan felt much relieved to see Cui Yun and indeed didn’t wish to see Cui Yang anymore.

"Then co, join Mama for so food."

As she spoke, she ordered Nanny Fang to prepare a set of utensils for him.

Cui Xuan served Cui Yun a spring roll without ntioning last night’s incident, only asking: "Will you attend the flower viewing banquet at Governor Mansion?"

Cui Yun, who had just declined Ji Ge’s invitation yesterday, pondered deeply for a mont.

"Is Mama going?"

Cui Xuan nodded: "The Yan Family sent over three invitations, one for your brother, one for you, and one for soone at Marquis Yangling Mansion."

In recent years, many residences started hosting flower viewing banquets; the viewing of flowers is but a pretense, for most are eager to familiarize themselves with the girls of the hosting families.

Yan Mi is hailed as a talented young lady, and her performance at these flower viewing banquets is indispensable.

She is still young and not in a hurry to get married, but by getting other families to start thinking, the banquet would not be in vain if it piqued their interest.

During these events, many madams would bring their daughters and eligible sons to attend. It was also an opportunity for them to settle marriage arrangents.

The fact that Governor Mansion sent out three invitations shows great regard for Marquis Yangling Mansion.

Since Cui Bai can’t attend now, and would likely not go even if he could rest properly, there are too many in Shengjing who wish to cast him down from the clouds into the mud.

However, if no one from our residence attends, it would be awkward to explain.

Cui Yang spoke with authority: "Accompany Mama there."

Cui Yun remained silent.

Cui Xuan ignored him. After last night’s quarrel, she cared even less for Cui Yang’s good points and simply gazed tenderly at Cui Yun.

"If you have no other matters, consider it keeping Mama company."

Cui Yun promptly agreed: "Yes."

He also worried about Cui Xuan.

Cui Yang: ...

He stood up, the armor on his body heavy, yet he moved with effortless strength.

The man was tall and formidable. He went to fetch his sword.

"I’m heading to the military camp now."

It was unclear who he was speaking to.

Cui Xuan continued sipping her soup.

Cui Yang’s expression shifted awkwardly for a mont.

"I will return in fifteen days."

Cui Xuan kept sipping her soup.

"Please take care of affairs at ho."

Cui Xuan’s expression softened slightly. Just as she was about to respond, she heard Cui Yang add.

"Also, regarding the Wu Family..."

Before he could finish, Cui Xuan put down her chopsticks.

"Is Marquis leaving or not?"

————

That night, numbness was written in the round cat eyes. Xue Tuan suffered endless tornt.

The young Cui Yun, truly had not a shred of humanity!

She felt utterly wronged.

Not to ntion other things, just take last night. Cui Yun brought her back to their bedroom. When they went to the washroom to clean up.

Xue Tuan was also tired, she moved her little legs back to her nest and covered herself with a tiny blanket.

Shen Hua was exhausted. It didn’t take long for her to fall asleep.

The moon climbed over the willow branches, and the lamps inside the room were extinguished one by one.

Cui Yun, after washing up, went to lie down on the bed and closed his eyes, yet sohow he couldn’t fall asleep. His breathing was even, but his tranquil gaze fixed upon the bed canopy.

He thought about the recent events.

ditating on each detail.

And after who knows how long, he propped himself up. Moonlight stread through window panes, leaving a clear glow on the ground. He got up slowly and walked towards the window.

In her nest on the floor, Xue Tuan was sleeping soundly, the handkerchief on her belly moving up and down with her breath.

Cui Yun looked at her for a mont, without a trace of pity, and then nudged her awake with his hand.

Xue Tuan: ...

You! Is there no end to this?!

She woke up in a bad mood, gritting her teeth and clawing the air, but the young man had not a single shred of guilt. He simply smoothed down her frazzled fur gently. Then his thin lips moved.

"I had trouble sleeping, Xue Tuan probably did too."

Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh!

But I was already asleep!

Didn’t you see?!

Cui Yun didn’t see. After lighting the lamp, he picked up Xue Tuan by the scruff of her neck and headed straight for the study.

As he walked, he didn’t forget to shake her gently and say, "It’s still early."

The cat trembled with fear, dreading being thrown out.

She missed her future cousin already!

But she couldn’t utter a word; all that ca out of her mouth were plaintive ows.

After entering the study, he placed Xue Tuan on the desk and beca engrossed in his reading.

There happened to be a book lying open on the desk. Xue Tuan pushed her head closer to it, checking the height, which was just right to use as a pillow.

She closed her eyes, brewing sleepiness, and humd comfortably. After rolling over, she naturally embraced the brush pen set aside.

Cui Yun glanced over at the sound.

There’s nothing stranger in the vast world than this; he rembered a teacher from a previous dynasty who had a monkey, quite clever, that always stayed inside the classroom during lectures. It didn’t make a fuss and after a while, it could even recognize characters.

And his Xue Tuan could understand human speech. Naturally smarter than that monkey.

He stared at Xue Tuan for a long ti. Suddenly struck by inspiration, he said.

"You, this cat, have great aspirations."

"Let’s try to enlighten you."

???

Xue Tuan suddenly climbed up from the book. She also tossed aside the brush pen.

She had a headache! Cui Yun made her accompany the little ghost to study, and she accepted but now, even as a cat, he wouldn’t leave her be.

She intended to flee imdiately.

But was quickly held tight in Cui Yun’s embrace.

He reassured her softly, "I’m not expecting you to beco the top scorer. Should you get lost tomorrow, if you can write ’Marquis Yangling Mansion’ on the ground, maybe soone will bring you back."

"ow!"

No way!

"Knowing a few more characters will make you the smartest cat."

"ow!"

Whoever cares can do it. Does she fancy such an empty reputation?

Cui Yun saw her strong reaction and couldn’t help but be amused; his partial attention turned into full engagent: "I will go find so books."

The study was vast, and looking for beginner’s books, Cui Yun searched back and forth, only finding a "Youlin Qiong Study."

He wasn’t picky and returned to the desk to sit down. After flipping open a page, he looked down at Xue Tuan, who looked like she was contemplating life and death. Xue Tuan hung her head low, wishing she could just die.

Cui Yun corrected the position of the cat’s head.

Xue Tuan’s round eyes t the densely packed characters in the book.

Terrifying.

More terrifying than hearing about the Jing Mansion tragedy.

As soon as Cui Yun let go, she turned her head to the right, reflecting the cat’s resistance.

Cui Yun patiently turned the cat’s head back to face the text.

This ti he didn’t let go, and Xue Tuan simply closed her eyes.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Seeing her now dejected look, Cui Yun finally felt so relief.

His voice carried a languid tone.

"In the beginning of chaos, the heavens and earth were set. The light and clear energy floated up to form the sky, and the heavy and muddy energy condensed down to form the earth."

Shen Hua: ...

It sounded nice, she was getting sleepy listening to it.

Then, she yawned.

Cui Yun didn’t plan on teaching much.

He repeated the sa phrase over and over ten tis.

Xue Tuan: ...

She couldn’t stand it anymore, one paw slapped onto the book.

Recite, recite, recite! Always the sa sentence, she was sick of it!!!

Her paw pads firmly covered her ears.
