After dinner, Sheng Tang volunteered to help her mom wash the dishes.
Her mom said there was no need.
"I haven’t done anything all night. Let get so exercise. I ate too much tonight," Sheng Tang said.
The old man said, "You ate too much? All I saw you eat was that bowl of boiled vegetables. You’re so thin now, unlike before when you were quite good."
"I need to be on cara, can’t do anything about it," Sheng Tang smiled.
She insisted on getting so exercise.
Sheng Tang washed the dishes and tidied up the kitchen, working quite skillfully, even though she usually didn’t do this.
The rest of the family sat in the living room, watching the gala while chatting.
Grandpa even asked Sheng Tang, "You’re so famous now, didn’t they invite you to the Spring Festival Gala?"
Sheng Tang poked her head out and replied, "No, probably not famous enough, maybe next year."
The family laughed.
When Sheng Tang finished, she left the trash by the door and sat down to watch TV.
During a skit’s intermission, she stood up to move around, laughingly said, "I’m still a bit full. I’m afraid I might gain a pound today."
The family understood her excessive dieting as it was helpful for her career.
Close to nine o’clock, Sheng Tang said, "I’ll go for a run downstairs."
Dad casually said, "Take the trash down with you, don’t leave it at the door."
Sheng Tang agreed.
The family didn’t suspect a thing, only Sheng Zong had an inkling, glancing at his sister with a smirk he quickly hid, afraid their mom would notice.
Sheng Tang walked outside and called Gu Shiting.
Gu Shiting was almost there.
"Just at the community entrance, don’t co in," Sheng Tang said.
Gu Shiting agreed.
When Sheng Tang reached the community entrance, Gu Shiting’s car had just stopped.
She got into the car.
"Drive further away, don’t park here," Sheng Tang said.
Gu Shiting nodded.
The car drove to the roadside and stopped.
Sheng Tang instinctively wanted to turn on the interior light, as in the past, Gu Shiting would never be in such a dark environnt.
The car was dimly lit, with only the orange glow of the streetlight streaming through the windshield.
Gu Shiting unfastened his seatbelt, leaned over, and gently hugged her, "Happy New Year."
"Happy New Year to you too," Sheng Tang gently patted his back a few tis.
The hug lasted for half a minute before Gu Shiting let go of Sheng Tang.
He reached out and brushed her hair, "Is the house still lively?"
"Very lively, Grandpa and Senior Brother Dazhou’s entire family ca," Sheng Tang said.
Gu Shiting replied, "That’s nice."
The pain he caused Sheng Tang, they had finally endured it and were no longer sad.
Gu Shiting exhaled a gentle sigh.
He continued, "I have an appointnt with Brother Zhou on the second day of the New Year, are you free? If you co, we can change the gathering place to my ho to avoid journalists snapping pictures."
"The journalists have all gone ho for the New Year," Sheng Tang laughed, "but safety first anyway. By your ho, you an your apartnt, right?"
"Yes, I’ll cook," Gu Shiting replied.
He could make all sorts of delicious dishes.
He could also make grandma’s homade dishes.
Such a light remark was extrely tempting for Sheng Tang.
She nodded, "I’ll be there."
"Then I’ll let Brother Zhou know, let’s get together on the second day, and you can stay over at my place that night. Should we call so people to play mahjong or video gas?" Gu Shiting asked again.
Sheng Tang: "..."
She didn’t really like mahjong or video gas.
She just replied, "It’s up to you guys. Who else are you planning to invite?"
"I don’t know yet, Brother Zhou said he’d bring so friends, probably people from his side," Gu Shiting said, "His friends are all trustworthy."
Sheng Tang nodded in agreent.
Her life, after six years, finally slowly returned to normal.
Family, Gu Shiting, all returned to her life as if they had never left.
As for grandma’s traces, they had gradually faded to just a thin line. If not intentionally sought after, they were no longer visible.
