"Tangtang, you’re back?" Dad glanced back briefly and continued at his desk.
"Dad, did your student co by just now?" Sheng Tang asked.
"Yes." Dad’s mind was still on the manuscript in front of him, likely revising a student’s paper, he answered absent-mindedly.
"What did she co for? Why didn’t she find you at school instead of coming to our ho?" Sheng Tang asked.
Dad replied, "She hasn’t turned in her assignnt again, so she ca to plead. This student is really strange, can’t keep up with her assignnts, her mind is always elsewhere."
"Is she still coming to turn in her assignnt?" Sheng Tang asked.
Dad nodded.
It was clear that he still had no sense of urgency.
"Dad, can you do a favor?" Sheng Tang asked.
Dad finally took his eyes off the paper and looked at his younger daughter, "What favor?"
He thought Sheng Tang wanted money to buy sothing.
Unexpectedly, Sheng Tang said, "Next ti she cos looking for you, can you start recording as soon as she steps in?"
"What?" Dad frowned slightly, not quite understanding, "Why record?"
"I’m a girl, you know, I fear she might throw a tantrum at the end of the term if she fails her exams, which would cause you a lot of trouble. She promises to turn in her assignnt but keeps coming to see you; it’s obvious she doesn’t want to turn it in," Sheng Tang explained.
Dad also thought that the girl didn’t want to turn it in and was making excuses to delay, yet still wanted participation points.
"Next ti she says anything, record it all. If she cos to bother you a third ti, play the recording for her and ask her what she said last ti. If she still doesn’t back off, report it to the faculty," Sheng Tang said.
Dad shook his head and smiled.
The idea was good but a bit too harsh.
He’s a teacher, not a boss. Dealing with students, his focus is on education and guidance, not holding onto their mistakes.
"Can you do it, Dad?" Sheng Tang pleaded, "Just listen to this once, and record it next ti. Nowadays, recording on phones is so easy, you can do it effortlessly."
Professor Sheng chuckled.
"Such a child," he said, "Alright, go back to your room and do your howork first, dinner will be ready soon. Your mom and brother won’t be ho for dinner tonight. Your mom called and said your brother’s been misbehaving at school lately, so she’s taking him out for dinner to educate him privately."
Sheng Tang agreed.
At the dinner table, she brought up the topic again.
Grandmother, after hearing it, strongly agreed with Sheng Tang, "Recording is better. I’ve seen that girl, she has eyes like a fox. If she cos here every day, your colleagues will gossip."
Professor Sheng was taken aback.
He had always been straightforward, had close interactions with students, and had never been the subject of gossip.
He had few female students, all quite sensible, none of whom would co to him alone repeatedly.
Chen Zhan was indeed good-looking, and if she really intended to pester him with softness and persistence, visiting him alone often, it would indeed lead to gossip.
"...Is it really necessary?" Dad hesitated a bit.
Grandmother said, "Better safe than sorry."
Dad nodded, still seed sowhat against recording, but less so than before.
Sheng Tang felt he had taken her advice to heart.
Then, Sheng Tang brought up Jiang Zhonglian.
"I know Jiang Zhonglian. His family is average, his grades are okay, planning to apply for postgraduate recomndation. However, his grades aren’t particularly outstanding," Dad said, "He also ca by, why didn’t he co up with you?"
"I don’t know."
Dad seed to be in thought.
