The third day soon arrived, and Christian finally left Neos and Andreas' house. By the ti he left, he had successfully absorbed the language potion and knew a new language—Ancient Egyptian. Of course, he still needed to learn the writing portions, but with his perfect mory, granted from his Mind Palace, and his language talent, this would not be an issue.
The list was posted in the Central District near the library, and it included the results for four subjects: magic theory, herbology, Magizoology, and the comprehensive test. Many people headed in that direction, so Christian only needed to follow soone to the library's outer area before heading to the east side, where the results of the magical theory test were posted.
He imdiately knew when he had arrived at his destination, as a large, thin screen floated ten ters above the ground with scribbles of nas.
The list had two sections: Reserve and Admitted. The reserve was at the bottom and contained the nas of people who failed the test but showed potential. These individuals can take the second test, and if they pass, they will be able to access the library.
Christian had little hope, so he started from the bottom, hoping to beco a reserve. However, his heart sank when he did not see his na. He cald down and checked the admission lists, hoping for a miracle. However, the dreadful feeling increased as he moved up the list and never saw his na. By the ti he reached the top ten, he almost stopped watching until he saw four nas at the top:
1st. Niketas Keraunos: 88 pts.
1st. Aurora Crystalia: 88 pts.
1st. Sesha sri: 88 pts.
1st. Christos Makedon: 88 pts.
Christian looked at his na at the top of the list with wide eyes. He — never in his wildest dreams — believed he would pass the test, let alone have the highest score.
"By the Pharaoh's beard, one of the Four Golden Treasures did not have the number 1 position!" yelled an Egyptian wizard.
"You're right. Sir. Aurelius Ignitus is in second place. So, who is Christos Makedon?"
The group started to murmur, wondering who was capable of dethroning one of the famous Golden Treasures, the most talented young magicians in the diterranean. While everyone was chatting, Christian listened but said nothing. Then, the sound of a carriage emanated from the distance, and once the people saw the emblems, they parted ways to make a path down the middle. Then, four carriages with unique crests reached the front before descending.
The first person to leave the carriage was a towering young man, muscular and dressed in Spartan armor, minus his helt. From the murmurs, Christian knew he was Niketas. The second person to leave the carriage was a beautiful Egyptian woman with tan skin, golden bracelets, neck jewelry, and a headdress; she was Sesha. She smiled at the crowd, and they almost reacted like she was a Veela.
Aurora wore a pure white himation with golden threads; her body gave off a natural mist, making her beauty even more ethereal. Lastly, Aurelius appeared, his flaming red hair and white chiton contrasting against his dark skin. The other looked at the list calmly, but his body suddenly released an overwhelming heat that scared the crowd.
"Who the fuck is Christos? Show yourself so I can burn you to a crisp," he yelled, making the crowd cower in fear. Christian watched everything from the shadows with no intention of showing up.
"Are you a coward? If you're a man, show up and confront ."
No answer.
"Won't show up? I'll burn everyone here until I get to you."
"Enough," said Aurora in a calm but icy voice. "Rember where this is; if you don't want your family to suffer the consequences, you better behave." She hopped back into her carriage after saying these words and left. Niketas did not utter a word or look at anyone else before following. Sesha smiled at him before leaving, but that only infuriated Aurelius as he saw that smile as mockery. He looked at the crowd and snorted coldly before hopping into his carriage.
Christian heard the audience sigh in relief before proceeding to discuss his na; he listened quietly for a few seconds before leaving. For so reason, he needed to head to the library tomorrow, and the second test was scheduled for the day after tomorrow.
When he reached the Lower Noble District before returning ho, he heard another ruckus. A small crowd surrounded a young man with snake-like eyes who was caressing the young Veela with black hair he had seen in his test.
"What do you say? Do you want to be my wife?"
"How many tis do I have to tell you, Ophelia — leave alone!" replied the Veela, turning her head to release his grasp.
"Are you rejecting again?"
"It would not have to happen again if you listened the first ti."
Bang!
Ophelia punched her in the stomach, and the crowd gasped. As the Veela clutched her belly on the floor, Ophelia started kicking her, but she did not utter a sound of pain.
"Bitch, it's your honor that I'm interested in you, but you dare reject . That's why your people are such vile creatures." Ophelia was ruthless and did not hold back any of his kicks. anwhile, Christian clenched his hands as he watched this, wondering whether he should intervene. He knew from a logical standpoint that he should stand down.
Ophelia is obviously influential in this city, given how the crowd refused to intervene and help. Once he intervenes, the situation might get out of control, affecting the process of returning ho. So, the logical thing to do is to be like the crowd and watch. However, he had a terrible feeling in the pit of his stomach.
'Think about returning ho to Mum and Aunt Eleanor,' Christian convinced himself before turning around. However, he did not take a second step.
'Would Mum and Aunt Eleanor approve of my action? No, they would not. They raised to be kind and help those in need. So, why am I turning my back on soone else just because of the possibility of consequences? If I can abandon soone in need today, I can do it again later.'
Christian felt a peaceful tranquility rushing through his mind, followed by a feeling that the entire world was clearer or brighter. 'Is this…another enlightennt?' This was the second ti he felt this sensation and quickly identified it. However, this was not the ti to rejoice.
He used the Sonorous Charm before speaking to his wand's ti: "Enough!" His voice echoed in the street, followed by a shocking crowd moving out of the way to create a path for him. Ophelia stopped and looked at the person who dared to interrupt him.
"What do we have here?" he sneered.
Christian walked toward him and looked him directly in the eyes, "Walk away from her."
"Look at this — we have a hero in our midst," said Ophelia with a smirk. "And who might you be?"
"And why do you want to know? Do you want to know what kind of status I have to decide whether it's worth the trouble to deal with ?" Ophelia's deanor suddenly paused before returning to normal.
"I'll say it once again: leave or prepare to face the consequences."
Ophelia felt a chill rush down his spine, but his snake pupil dilated, and he returned to normal. He snorted coldly, "This is not over." He walked away and pushed a crowd mber who was too close to him. Christian rushed to the young girl to check her injury.
"You…shouldn't…have," she muttered with difficulty.
"Don't talk, or you'll aggravate your injury." Christian picked her up before silently casting the Disillusionnt Charm, turning completely invisible instead of blending in the surroundings like a chaleon; he did not want the crowd to follow him when he left. He did not take her to Neos and Andreas' house, but paid for a hotel room.
Alexandria Library:
The Curator had a basketball-size crystal ball before him, looking at the Christian.
"Did he just beco enlightened? Excellent," he muttered. "Only people with a peaceful and disciplined mind can pursue the pinnacle of magic." He knew it was a hundred tis harder for dark wizards to pursue a higher level of magic due to the dark arts' effect on the mind and soul. This fact is also why all dark wizards are either insane or ntally unstable, and their condition worsens as their strength increases.
The Curator continued watching the crystal ball. "Is that an [Aura Ability]? Is his soul so potent?" He had a smile plastered on his face as he observed silently. Once Christian healed the girl, he stopped the crystal.
"You're going to be heartbroken once this kid dies," said the cat.
"Co on, Mimir, give a little more credit," said the Curator.
"I'm just saying," said Mimir, so the Curator shook his head. "Markus," he called out loud, and less than a minute later, the director appeared in his room.
"Curator, you called?"
"Give Christos Makedon a contract that lasts three months."
"Sir, are you serious?"
"Just do it."
"But if–"
"Why are your first concerns about the Blood Crest families? Do they run the library, or do I?"
"I didn't an–"
"You should consider whom you work for," said the Curator calmly.
"I-I-I apologize."
