Chapter 34: The First One
"Then what would you call it? There is sothing moving inside that glass container." Bella pointed at the object in question while also taking a step back.
Jas' expression showed his displeasure. He had not wanted Bella to see this, but it was too late for regrets now.
He could not stop the process now, otherwise, the experint would likely fail, and he would have wasted so very precious materials that he could not afford to replace at the mont.
He moved in front of the glass vial and used his wand to perform so scans on the magical wavelength of the subject.
"Tsk… it's a bit too soon for it to hatch." He hurried to control the temperature of the fla before moving quickly to the ingredients cabinet.
"Wait… hatch…?" Bella narrowed her eyes, trying to peer inside the glass vial, but the liquid inside was too dark to get a good look. Whatever that substance was, it was almost black in color and very thick.
When Jas increased the intensity of the flas, the liquid began to bubble violently.
Jas picked up a small wooden box from the shelves and hurried back to the glass container before dumping its contents on top of the black substance.
Then he took a step back and observed it carefully.
Bella could see the changes imdiately. The black substance was turning more liquid, and the color was clearing up, allowing her to finally see what was inside.
"Is that an egg?"
It had at least the shape of an egg, except it was over ten tis the size of a normal one and had a vibrant red color.
"What kind of… wait, it's changing," Bellatrix noted that the tone of the egg's color was getting darker at the sa ti the liquid was getting lighter as if it were absorbing sothing from it.
Jas didn't bother answering Bella's incessant questions, as this was not the mont for that.
Soon enough, the liquid had turned as clear as water, while the egg had beco pitch black. Once in a while, it would also move and collide with the glass of the container, making loud cracking noises.
"It's going to break the glass!" Bella pointed out while also increasing her distance from the object.
"I can only wait now…" Jas muttered. He had done everything he needed to do. Whether this experint was a success or not, he would see soon enough.
Just as Bella had said, the egg ended up shattering the glass in one of its movents. As soon as it did this, it also fell down from the table and hit the floor.
Jas cleaned the ss with a simple wave of his wand and continued to look at the egg.
There were many cracks across its surface, and more were being made every second.
"What kind of creature did you put in there, Potter?" Bella approached a bit but remained behind Jas, just in case she had to use him as a shield.
More pieces of the eggshell cracked, and they began to hear noises emanating from the creature inside. They sounded like a mixture between a bird and a lizard.
Finally, a small pale paw erged from the cracked shell.
"What is that?" Bella asked again.
"Co on, little guy… get out of there already," Jas spoke to the creature inside the egg.
As if the being inside had heard and understood his words, it seed to redouble its efforts to exit its shell prison.
"Wait!" Bella's face went even paler from the shock. "That's… That's…!" She pointed at the creature as it escaped the egg.
The little one shook its body rapidly to release the stuck pieces of shell.
"Kyu!" It let out a loud cry and looked toward Jas and Bella with curiosity.
"That's a dragon!" Bella finally said with shock.
"It is not a dragon…" Jas corrected her.
"Kyu?" The little creature now looked confused.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you are not a dragon." Jas told the newborn.
"Kyu…"
"Look what you did!" Bella scolded him. "You made him sad."
"Was I supposed to lie?" Jas raised an eyebrow.
"But if it's not a dragon… then what is it?" She asked.
"Kyu?" The little guy also seed interested in knowing.
"It is a very advanced artificial magical construct… in other words, a chira." Jas explained.
"A chira?..." Bella vaguely knew about those. "But you said it wasn't alive. Aren't chiras supposed to be combinations of different living creatures?"
"Kyu!" The little one stood tall on its four legs and moved its wings a bit, as if saying, 'Yes, I am alive!'
"It has so similarities with living creatures, but ultimately, it works differently. And compared to whatever chira you've read about in old alchemy books, my creation is centuries ahead of those." Jas said with pride.
"Kyu!" The creature puffed its chest.
"It is kinda cute, though…" Bella comnted.
Jas almost dropped his wand from the shock.
'Did I just hear Bellatrix—The Mad Witch—Lestrange calling a small creature… cute?' He must have heard that wrong.
He gave her a side glance. Bella was looking at the construct with a warm smile on her face.
He had never seen her like this… she looked almost human now.
Jas moved back to observe his creation. He had to admit that she was right about that. The little guy was very adorable in its current state.
It had a draconic look, standing on four legs with a pair of small wings on its back.
Its scales were pristine white, and it had a pair of large blue eyes.
"Are you going to na him?" Bella asked.
Jas hadn't thought about that yet since he didn't expect it to awaken this early. "Sure… lets go with 001."
"Kyu?..."
"That's not a na. That's a number, you dufus." Bella huffed.
"But he is the first one…" He had never put much effort into the naming part of the process, this was sothing that his students had often called him out for.
"Fine then… what about Primum?"
"Primum?.... It ans 'The First'... I suppose it at least sounds like a na." Bella said.
"Kyu!"
"The little guy seems to like it." Bella chuckled. "Wait, does that an you are planning on making more?"
