Chapter 205: On the Wrong Hands
"I'm not sure if there is much I can add. You must have already heard all the details. So students and I were attacked by a crazy witch as we were leaving the village. I defended myself and dealt with her in the best way I could."
"Mmm…you would be surprised how few details have been allowed to be made public," his father said. "So people in the Ministry seem to be keen on keeping what you did under wraps."
"I cannot imagine why." Jas responded, but internally, he was a bit concerned about the Ministry showing too much interest in him.
The Auror in charge of the investigation didn't make things too difficult and allowed him to leave after a short explanation, as well as showing him the mories.
At this point, Jas was not sure how many people Voldemort had inside the Ministry, but it was safe to assu he must have at least a few.
After all, the Magical Governnt was composed in large part of all those families who were now becoming his followers.
'Did Voldemort learn about what happened that day? How much does that man know? And…is this the reason for his sudden change of plans?' Jas had more questions than answers right now. Check latest chapters at noᴠelfire
"Well, to start…" Fleamont continued. "The identity of that witch was very interesting. According to all the docunts and diaries the Aurors found inside her shop, she ca originally from France and had been around for several centuries. The fact that you were able to defeat a monster like that tells th—"
"Wait a mont, her shop?" Sothing just occurred to Jas. "What else did the Aurors find in there? Did she keep any records on the experints she perford on herself?"
Fleamont was surprised by the question but still answered. "Yes, there was ntion of sothing like that."
"What did the Aurors do with that information? Please, tell they destroyed it imdiately," Jas said with a grave tone.
"That's what I would have suggested, but no…" Fleamont could not agree with the Ministry's decision on keeping such knowledge around, even if they felt they could secure it.
"They kept it…" Jas frowned. "Even if it could fall into the wrong hands." And likely already did.
"Son, as much as I can understand where you are coming from, I assure you that the Ministry knows how to secure dangerous information. They have been doing it for centuries."
"Nothing in the Ministry is completely secured." He still rembered infiltrating the Departnt of Mysteries to steal the prophecy when he was a re child and was accompanied by his friends.
And they didn't even have as much help from the inside as Voldemort would have now.
Fleamont noticed that his son was very preoccupied with this particular piece of information. "What are you getting at, Jas?"
"Did you read those diaries yourself?" Jas asked.
"Of course not!" Fleamont huffed. "What are you insinuating?"
"Twelve missing people at Hogsade…all of them were veteran wizards and witches." Jas had paid attention to the nas and recognized most of them. Particularly, the kidnapping of Ollivander had caught his attention.
"What about it?"
"I think that the witch's diaries have already fallen into the wrong hands…the worst possible hands."
"Are you talking about…him?" Fleamont had learned from Pollux about Jas's confrontation with the three Lords and the eting with Voldemort, where Jas was present.
"Whatever you think you know about this new Dark Lord…he is much worse than that." Jas stared at him.
"I am more concerned about what you know, Jas. I don't want to see you involved in these matters. Leave it to the authorities."
Jas wanted to laugh at that. The authorities were the ones who allowed that madman to grow so much in power.
'No wonder Dumbledore was unable to defeat him during the first war. By the ti he got personally involved, it was already too late.' Jas thought.
He glanced up at Fleamont and spoke again. "I understand, Father." It wasn't like he planned to tell his father about his decision to take part in the war.
He had reluctantly inford Dumbledore because he really needed the information that the new Order could get for him.
A smile appeared on his father's face. This was exactly what he wanted to hear.
"But since you are already involved in this…it would be a good idea to keep an eye on any nearby dragon reserves," Jas added.
"Dragons? What are you talking about?"
"I am not completely sure myself, but whatever rituals that witch had used on herself will need more than just wizards as sacrifices. They definitely require parts from powerful magical creatures. The scales I spotted on her skin suggested that she used dragons or so other similar creature during her experints."
Fleamont frowned. "Since we are back at the topic of the witch…I would like for you to tell where you learned the magic used to kill that monster."
"What magic exactly? I used many spells back then."
"The one that earned the involvent of my departnt. According to the report…a white fla that rose into the sky and was visible for hundreds of miles around Hogsade."
"Oh, that one."
"Yes, that one," Fleamont said.
"It was an alchemy fla."
"Is that all you have to say?"
"That is all there is." Jas shrugged.
"So, are you an alchemist now? Last year I had to pay for a dozen cauldrons because you kept destroying them during potions class," Fleamont comnted.
"I got much better."
"Yes…I can see that." Fleamont was not an idiot. He knew that his son's progress during this last year was simply impossible, no matter how much he tried to explain it with logic. But sothing he was sure of was that the boy in front of him was a Potter.
No matter how incredible this all was, he had no choice but to accept it, because right now it was not the ti to doubt his own family.
A war had just begun, and they must stay together if they hoped to live through it.
