Chapter 189: The Double Agent

"Clarke, there you are. I was looking for you." Auror Jones called after seeing the tall man leaving one of the interrogation rooms that aurors typically used.

Clarke turned to see his friend. "Oh… Jones, you are back from the village already."

Jones frowned. "What's wrong? Your face is all pale. Did sothing happen with the boy?" He noted that his partner had a vial of mories in his hand and was clutching it as if it were an invaluable treasure.

"Mister Potter and Albus Dumbledore left a few minutes ago," Clarke responded.

"You let the boy go? After the ss he caused? The Minister is not going to like this. The press will demand the na of the responsible." Jones didn't like this. He had hoped to keep Potter here for a bit longer and see if his Lord wanted to do sothing about him.

"He committed no cri. Why would I keep him here?. I'm sure the Minister will understand that." Clarke answered.

"What about Rabastan Lestrange's death? Lord Lestrange recently lost his first heir, and now the other one. He will wa—"

"Mister Potter is not responsible for that," Clarke interrupted him. "The witch killed him… ripped his head off. I saw it in the mories very clearly." He didn't ntion the fact that Malfoy and the other Slytherin seed to have only arrived at Hogsade to harass Potter and the girl he was with.

"By the way, do you have a na for the witch? Did you find her shop?"

"Aye, we found it. I sent the rookie to the shop. That place is filled with stuff… I don't know how long it will take to get sothing useful from there." Jones said while his eyes moved to the vial with silver liquid inside. "So you saw the mories…"

"Ah… yes…" Clarke stared at the vial, still not having recovered from the shock he suffered when he saw them. And the explanation offered by Jas Potter didn't help make things easier.

The boy was revealed to be a Grandmaster Alchemist with the combat skills of a Warlock, according to Dumbledore.

There was no precedent for sothing like this and, much like Dumbledore, he was sure that Potter was keeping an important piece of the puzzle for himself. But they had no way or reason to pressure soone like that.

"It is a clear case of self-defense," Clarke finally said.

"So the boy actually killed a dark witch by himself? And cast a fire spell that turned the ground to glass? It is very hard to believe for soone that young, don't you think? Didn't he get help from soone else?" Jones asked.

"No help," Clarke responded with a firm tone.

"Hmm…" Jones didn't seem to believe it. "What spells? Didn't he use anything dark or illegal?"

Clarke glared at his partner with suspicion. "Do you have sothing against the Potters? It looks like you are upset that I didn't try to find sothing to accuse Potter of."

"Of course not." Jones brushed it aside. "I'm attempting to be impartial. You know, the law is the law."

"And extre cases of self-defense allow wizards and witches the use of more deadly spells, even those that would normally not be allowed. I know the law… urgg…" Clarke took hold of his forehead.

"Partner, you look very tired," Jones noted.

"I still need to secure this vial of mories at the Departnt of Mysteries and archive the report."

"Why don't I help you out, since I am done with my part," Jones suggested while glancing at the vial. "Let take the mories, and you can go file that report before going to rest."

"Mmm…" Clarke looked at Jones. Normally he wouldn't do this, but they had known each other for over ten years and he had complete trust in his partner. "Okay." He handed the vial of mories. "Make sure they are well secured. Those mories could be very important in the future." The display of magic he saw in them was impressive enough to leave him shaken.

Jones took the vial and held it firmly.

"Let know when the rookie returns from Hogsade," Clarke said before turning around and starting to walk away.

"Of course… partner." Jones smiled. 'The mories are nothing but a consolation prize, but I'm sure the Dark Lord will be interested in seeing this.'

Hogwarts, Headmaster's Office

Green flas ford inside the fireplace at Dumbledore's office and two figures erged from it.

Jas ca out first and moved away, leaving room for the old wizard.

"That went faster than I expected," Jas comnted. He expected them to want to hold him until they got all the information they wanted.

Jas even expected that they would try to get so of his secrets from him, like so of the spells he had used or how he had created Primum and the others.

"Indeed," responded Dumbledore. "I believe you caused quite the impression on that auror. The poor man looked shaken as he gave us leave."

"He was not the only one," Jas pointed out.

"Ah… yes." Dumbledore did his best to hide his embarrassnt. "I understood much better than the auror… the magnitude of what you did today." The Headmaster's eyes were focused on Jas as he moved his chair to sit down.

"I know you must be very exhausted, Mister Potter. But do you mind if we talked for a bit? There are so things that I didn't want to speak of in front of the authorities."

Jas sat down. "You can ask whatever you wish, Headmaster. But I reserve the right not to answer."

Dumbledore nodded. "Of course, I understand." He took a mont to collect his thoughts before continuing. "You can answer this next question with a yes or no and don't need to delve into details… are you a ti traveler?"
