Chapter 142: The Day of The Contract
Two days before the end of Spring Break.
Jas was inside the private laboratory he created in one of the towers of his family property. In front of him was a large chunk of gold.
"Not bad, but I am going to need to perform a few more tests." A mont ago, this chunk of gold had been nothing but iron, proving that the Philosopher's Stone worked as intended. At least, one of its functions. He had yet to test the others.
" It appears that money is no longer a concern. I can't wait to see the face of the goblins when I arrive with a pile of gold to sell." Jas chuckled and sat down in his chair.
'That was so stressful break, but at least it's over.' His eyes moved across the table as he made ntal notes of everything he was ant to finish during this week.
He stopped when a particular book caught his attention.
"Oh… I had forgotten about you." He stood up and went to pick it up.
He had paid a lot of money for this book. It was almost like that shopkeeper didn't want to sell it to him.
'She looked very interested in the book as well.' He recalled her odd behavior when he showed interest in this to.
The book he bought during his shopping trip with Lily gave many details about the Tomb of Kilgharrah. This was an evil wizard who lived during the era of the first rlin, the one many claim had been the most powerful wizard who ever existed.
Kilgharrah was not too far off from rlin, but very few people knew about him.
Not many wanted to write tales about such a nasty individual. Not when heroic figures like King Arthur or rlin were around.
Most preferred to forget about Kilgharrah the Cruel.
Jas cared little for old history about forgotten wizards. But he cared about his tomb.
To be more specific, he cared about one item in particular that should be hidden inside that tomb.
'I had always wanted to get my hands on that thing… How wonderful would it be to experint with it?'
He opened up the old book and began reading. He already had a good idea of where the tomb was, but the information stored there would prevent him from falling into a trap and dying.
"Now, let's see…" He began reading.
An hour later, he heard his mother calling for him from outside.
"Jas, you there? Can you hear ?"
He put down the book and peeked from one of the windows of his tower.
"I can hear you just fine. What is it?"
Euphemia put her hands on her hips. "Have you forgotten already? We had an important visit today. You should have been in the house, getting ready."
"Ah… right." Jas just rembered. He had many things in his head, so it was normal for sothing to fall through the cracks. "Is Lord Black here already?"
They were supposed to sign the marriage contract between him and Bellatrix.
"Yes, he is already here, along with the rest of the family. I hope you are presentable at least," Euphemia said.
Jas looked down at himself. It was a good thing that he took a bath after breakfast. "I think I'm fine."
"Then you better hurry up. Everyone is currently waiting in the main hall." After saying what she ca to say, Euphemia turned around and left.
Jas sighed. "Let's get this over with…" He went back to store his things, making sure he didn't leave anything important lying around.
As much as he trusted his parents, this was still their house, so it wasn't out of the question for them to visit his laboratory. That's why he was always careful with what he left in sight.
He then made the long way back into the castle and to the main hall.
The gates opened, and he was welcod by a similar view from the last ti: his parents, Lord Pollux, Cygnus, Bella, and Androda.
Only Druella and Narcissa were missing.
It was easy to guess why those two were not here. Narcissa had no interest in this eting, and Druella was likely asked not to co, to avoid any conflicts during the eting.
The woman's preferences were not a secret. She very much would have preferred to be on the other side of the war.
'I bet she changes her mind once she finds out what happened to her family,' Jas thought. The news about the destruction of the Rosier household should begin to spread soon enough.
"Hey, Jas." Androda greeted him with a smile as he sat down.
"Hello." Bella was in her usual cold mood.
Jas had only seen her speak warmly to Primum.
He greeted everyone back and sat down in the sa place as the last ti.
Lord Pollux and his parents then began to discuss the marriage contract that Pollux had brought.
There was still ti to make so changes if necessary, at least before they signed.
Magical contracts usually had enchantnts that prevented other parties from breaking them or destroying them. They were also enforced by the Ministry of Magic in case one of the parties failed to uphold their side of the contract.
Once they all signed, only Lord Pollux or Lord Potter would be able to destroy it, by burning the paper it was written on.
Just like Pollux did with the Malfoy, Lestrange, and Rosier contracts.
After a few minutes, his mother turned to him. "Jas. This is going to take a while. Your father wants to be very thorough and go over the entire contract." Her eyes moved over to Bella and Androda. "Why don't you take the girls outside and do sothing more fun?. I bet they are getting bored."
Jas raised an eyebrow. "I'm not exactly the 'fun' kind of guy. You're probably looking for Siri—"
"Actually," Androda interrupted, "I would love to get so fresh air. We've been stuffed inside our house for the entire break. Can we go see the fields?"
Euphemia smiled. "Of course you can, my dear." She glanced at Jas. "You heard the lady. Go on."
