Chapter 102: The Second
"Now, if you excuse …" Jas pulled out his magical briefcase and placed it carefully on the floor.
"Jas, wait! What happened yesterday? How did the Lestrange brothers and those other boys end up in the hospital? And none of them can rember anything. Did you use a mory charm on them?"
He stopped to look at her. "I believe that the less you know about what happened, the better it will be for you."
Bella raised an eyebrow. "Did you really put them all in the hospital by yourself? From what I heard, many had broken bones, and Snape had been turned into a toad. The healers had a lot of trouble restoring him."
"Do you think potions are my only talent? I told you before that I can take care of myself… does that scare you?" Jas asked.
Bella scoffed. "Scare ? That was bloody impressive!, I didn't think you had it on you. Now I just wish I had been there to see it. I've wanted to break Lestrange's bones since the first ti I t him."
"Mmm, good to hear. Now, if you'll excuse , I have so important project to conclude." Jas opened the briefcase and went inside.
" You have a dinsional briefcase?" Bella looked inside while Jas descended the staircase. "You never told about it… what do you have in there?"
"I don't have to tell you everything, Bella," Jas's voice sounded from inside. "And if you're that curious… You may co in."
She was indeed really curious about what he had hidden in there. Those briefcases are very expensive and not sothing that a student would usually have.
Bella arrived at the small entrance and saw Jas going through one of the two doors.
Inside the room was a large wooden table shaped like a 'U' that took up around three-quarters of the space.
There were two very distinct areas with different projects going on.
Jas went directly to the one on the right side, so Bella instinctively looked first at the other one.
There was a small cauldron made of so crystal-like material. A multicolored fla was burning beneath it, but no smoke was coming from the cauldron.
Everything was so serene, as if it was waiting for sothing to happen.
She wanted nothing more than to walk up to the cauldron and take a peek at what was inside, but she knew better than to ss with one of Jas's experints.
Severus Snape had already gotten a taste of what could happen.
So instead, she turned her attention to the other side and tried to find out what Jas was doing over there.
He took several small boxes from his robes and placed them on the table.
'Where does he keep all that stuff?' Bella had never seen anyone store so many things inside their clothes.
"I have made you wait long enough… today, you will finally wake up," Jas said.
"Who are you talking—oh…" Bella couldn't see it before because Jas's back was blocking her view, but once she moved a bit, she could finally see what was in front of Jas.
"Did you make another one?"
It was a large glass jar, with a bubbling dark liquid inside. Nothing was moving yet, but it looked very similar to the one from which Primum had co.
"This one is a bit different from Primum. This is not exactly a chira… at least not technically. It's a modified artificial being."
"What kind of being?" She got a bit closer to the glass jar, but the liquid was too thick and dark to see what was contained inside.
"It's not moving… is that normal?"
"That's because it's not finished yet. She's been waiting for so very special materials," Jas said.
"She?…" Bella raised an eyebrow.
Jas always spoke of Primum as an 'it', so Bella found it strange that he referred to this experint in such a way.
Jas proceeded to drop the remaining ingredients he had been collecting for the past months.
He opened a tiny black box, and so colorful dust fell inside the jar. The pixie dust was going to be the last ingredient.
The liquid inside the jar began to change and adopt several vibrant colors.
But then Jas rembered that he had a chance to acquire so of that Djinn Essence.
If his calculations were correct, and they usually were, this legendary material would make his next construct much better than the one he had created during his previous life.
'Either that, or my entire briefcase will blow up in a very spectacular way,' Jas thought while giving Bella a glance.
'Maybe I shouldn't have let her co here in the first place.'
"No… it will be fine," Jas told himself.
"What will be fine?" Bella asked.
"Don't worry about it. It's not going to blow up." Jas gave her a reassuring thumbs-up.
"Hold on… this can explode?" she hurried to ask. "Jas?. Answer to !. Should I be worried?"
Ignoring the girl, Jas took hold of the small wooden box containing just a few grams of Djinn Essence and dropped them into the glass jar.
The essence was a bright liquid with a light blue tone and a glow of its own. As it made contact with the contents of the jar, sothing began to happen.
The liquid started to spin, as if it were being violently stirred. anwhile, its vibrant colors began to fade, replaced by a pure white monotone.
Jas took out his wand and tapped the glass several tis while he recited a spell in a language that Bella had never heard.
The girl decided to remain silent during the whole process, not wanting to risk distracting Jas at a crucial mont. She just watched with rapt attention as the liquid inside the glass jar transford.
Runes appeared all of a sudden out of thin air and floated around the container.
"Co on, little one… wake up," Jas said after finishing his chant.
Sothing inside the jar began to move.
