Lucia’s POV

My mother was a very kind woman. That’s why she was always smiling.

And on that pleasant morning, she was once again gently combing my hair.

That ti lingers only as fleeting echoes in my mories. But her hands are still clear in my mind.

They were large, with long fingers and a very slender wrist.

"Sweetheart, go check if your sister has changed yet," she said.

"Got it," I replied and ran to my room.

There was Maria, a little red-haired girl who had just finished getting ready. Even though we were the sa age, she was completely different from .

We were both 7 years old, but she didn’t look older than 5. My sister was a small girl, really small, very cute, and had an absolutely detestable sll.

"Do you need help with anything?" I asked with a fake smile.

Thinking about it, I was always smiling back then too...

"No, don’t worry about helping ," she replied quickly. For so reason, her face looked a little scared.

Soon, we were leaving our house behind.

That day, my mother was wearing a really striking red lipstick. I was surprised to see that because I had never seen her wearing makeup before.

Then, we probably got into a car.

"Mom, where are we going today?" Since she hadn’t told yet, I finally asked. But the woman didn’t answer .

Maybe she was too focused on driving and couldn’t pay attention to what I was saying?

"Today we’re going to et Dad," Maria explained to .

Hearing that, I wondered what kind of man my father was.

I assud he must be red-haired like Maria, after all, Mom and I were blondes, and she had to have inherited that beautiful fiery hair from sowhere.

I was jealous of her red hair.

ООО

My father was an unpleasant person. That’s why he was always smoking.

And on that cold night, he was once again teaching a lesson.

That ti lingers only as fleeting echoes in my mories. But his hands are still clear in my mind.

They were large and cold, covered in scars and calluses.

"Sweetheart, go check if your sister is still alive," he said.

"Got it," I replied and ran out of the control cabin, then across the deck until I reached a small wooden storage room.

My father always complained that it was a terrible choice of materials. I didn’t understand much about it, but he said that the salt from the sea and the water from the waves quickly deteriorated structures made of wood.

Anyway, I hated going to that place. It was on the edge of the boat, so it was always hit by violent waves. I always ca back from there soaked.

I smiled.

Opening the door to the storage room, the strong sll of rotting flesh invaded my nostrils.

Inside, that small wooden house seed to stretch infinitely.

On the left, there were several tal hooks, hanging from the ceiling by chains that stretched endlessly upward.

On the right, there were the sa hooks. But these were in use.

Each had a person. Dad would hook them just below the shoulder. He had shown once how people work on the inside. That’s how I knew he placed the hook where no vital organs would be hard.

Because of that, people stayed alive after being hooked. Sotis for days, so even weeks.

"Sister, are you alive?" I shouted.

My words echoed throughout the area, repeating several tis.

"Yes," her voice sounded weaker than the previous week.

After getting my confirmation, I went to inform my father. It had been a month and two weeks... By far, she was the one who had lasted the longest.

Since the day I t my father, she had been there.

Unfortunately, once again, I was standing before my father. And he gave another task.

That man never praised .

Still, I went to help my mother fish as he had asked. It had been almost a week since the last ti, and most of the hooks were empty.

"Mom, I ca to help you."

I approached the woman, who had an even wider smile than usual.

She was smiling.

She was always smiling.

"Sweetheart, thank you for coming to help ." She gently ruffled my hair. I rember being surprised at that mont. Her eyes looked strange.

The color...?

Her iris was red.

Then, suddenly, everything was red.

The furious heat of the fire drove away the cold of the night.

The sound of the explosion echoed like thunder. But the sound ca late, much later, as the light of destruction had already blinded .

But before falling into the sea, I saw a being with beautiful white wings. Not one, several... And behind them were furious clouds, shooting lightning bolts back and forth.

When I finally fell into the ocean, the water swallowed violently. I couldn’t even react to the brutality of the sea.

I thought I would die at that mont, but a pair of hands I knew so well broke through that storm and pulled to the surface.

My mother’s hands were even thinner, but still very gentle.

Her smile, always warm, was not present at that mont.

Then she threw far away, directly into a whirlpool.

Seeing this, the n with white wings ca toward . And my mother disappeared.

OOO

My sister was an incomprehensible person. That’s why she was alive, while staring at the corpses of our parents.

As the sun waned and night’s chill crept in, she was alone again.

That ti lingers only as fleeting echoes in my mories. But her hands are still clear in my mind.

They were very small. And on her palm, she had strange letters, branded with fire.

"Everything will be okay, alright?" She gently ruffled my hair.

Her eyes showed no emotion. But her smile strangely made trust her.

Maria took sothing from my father’s corpse, then swallowed it.

My head was hurting so much...

Ti passed in an instant, and amid countless events, my mories failed once more. That’s how we ended up trapped in that small cell.

Then one of the angels ca to call her. She always said they just wanted to talk to her, but I knew the truth.

Those guys took her to a cold room, then tortured her.

Maybe they wanted so information she had. But honestly, I believe they just found it entertaining.

It was cruel. My sister was always the one who suffered the most.

My mother, my father, the angels, actually, even . Why didn’t anyone like my sister?

Maybe it was because her fiery red hair was beautiful.

Could they have been jealous?

I was jealous.

Not anymore. I wouldn’t want that hair. A tear rolled down my face. She suffered too much, and it was sad.

And, thinking that way, my hair caught fire.

My vision beca blurry.

Truly, they must have been jealous of her beautiful hair. After all, as soon as I turned red-haired, an angel approached.

But I wouldn’t let him touch .

For so reason, at that mont, I was sure I could defeat that man.

I lunged like a beast. And despite my small body, I managed to push him, slamming his head against the wall.

He fainted with the first blow, but he could still wake up at any mont. So I grabbed his head and kept smashing it against the floor without stopping. Over and over and over.

When I realized, his brain was scattered across my hand.

"Let’s get out of here," my sister’s muffled voice caught my attention.

Turning to her, I noticed she had a shining sword stuck in her chest. Her clothes were stained with blood, and all over her body, I could see wounds.

Still, my sister smiled, an honest smile. Then she showed a book she had stolen from the angels.

"Don’t worry, everything you need to know is here," she said.

After hearing that, I fainted.

When I woke up, I was in a bed, in a small room with white walls and nothing else.

"Where is Maria?" I asked myself as I recalled everything that had happened.

I quickly got up and noticed so bloodstains on the floor.

Following the trail, I reached the next room. There, my sister lay on the ground, that shining sword still embedded in her chest.

I tried to approach to remove the sword, but... was it made of light?

At the ti, I didn’t understand it well. Later, I would discover that it was the result of an angelic ability: the Sword of Judgnt.

It was a power that slowly drained the life force of anyone struck by it. And, unfortunately, it could only be removed by another angelic ability: Divine Healing.

All my mories from that ti are very hazy. But I survived as best I could, alone.

I also discovered that as long as I provided life energy, I could delay my sister’s death. But the more ti passed, the worse her condition beca.

I still don’t know how my sister saved us. Even less do I understand what was going through her mind during all that ti.

I know absolutely nothing about her. Nor about my mother, or my father.

And yet, I wanted to know her. I wanted to save her.

Over the years, I learned a lot about angels thanks to the book Maria stole from them.

I found out that I was a half-demon. My father’s deep wine-colored hair indicated that he was a mid-rank demon. Likewise, my own rank was close to his.

My sister, however, had fiery hair, she was a high-rank demon. That’s why the angels were so interested in her.

In the following years, I also learned how to hide from them and use my powers carefully so as not to draw attention. Even so, I had lost all hope of saving her.

Until I discovered a boy with a strange power. After investigating, I found out that he could buy angelic abilities. That’s when I decided I would use him to save my sister.
