Chapter 433 – Who are you?

The process from the waking world to the spirit world was not swift. And before any of them managed to stand in front of the Woman in Fog, all of them went through sothing.

Noah, more specially.

...

It was dark, Noah felt, as his life slowly lted away from his body, plunging him into a silence louder than anything he had gone through.

It felt weird to die again.

The first ti he died was when he was only a pitiful mortal. Yet instead of going to the spirit world, he reincarnated into another world.

For a brief instant, Noah thought that the sa would happen. He believed that his system — now Providence, his wife — would help him in the sa way she did the first ti.

But none of that happened.

Everything was darkness. And in that darkness, Noah felt the inevitability of death grabbing at his soul viciously tight.

They said when you reached the end of your life, when death ca knocking at your door... you would relive your whole life like a movie being played for you, like so divine joke. Then regret would kick in to chew your already shattered mind.

Noah was not sure about the first part. But regrets did indeed co to him.

And they ca in a vicious tide that swept through his barely conscious mind rcilessly.

He had acted brave in front of the whole universe. Acted brave in front of his wives, children, siblings, and friends.

But the Progenitor of the Elysiari was internally shaking in fear. Not because of death. Death was sweet.

But because he would lose everything he painstakingly obtained through his journey.

All of that... now beca aningless.

Even as death claid his soul. Even as he was going from one place to another, wholly different place...

Noah felt that he was no longer Noah.

He was nothing but a husk of who he was. A man who lost everything that made him who he was.

{False.} The Records interrupted his unending, depressing monologue.

Through his dazed state, Noah’s wisp-like body showed surprise at the rude interruption.

{Is death clouding your mind, Noah?}

’Death does indeed do sothing like that,’ Noah answered, feeling the pull of the spirit world closer. ’But my mind is clear.’

{Is it, really, Noah?} The Records said, and Noah had never heard so much emotion behind this strange entity.

{Tell , who are you?}

’I am nothing like Noah Vaelgrim but in na alone. I lost everything, Records. I lost my achievents. I lost my titles. I lost my skills. My Path of Cosmos is shattered, transford to dust. The only thing I managed to protect in is Laeh and Earth. Everything else is gone.’

’Everything I worked hard for disappeared like damn smoke. Now, I am not saying all of this for you to pity ...’

{Sha. We were about to.}

’...but it’s just the plain truth. I am Noah. But I am not Noah. I am neither.’

’Now, I indeed wonder. Who am I?’

{Do you need titles for you to know who you are?} The Records asked. {Do you need our recognition for you to recognize yourself?}

’You made it that way.’

{I expected more of you, Noah.}

’Don’t expect anymore. Expectation equals disappointnt.’

{Do you forsake yourself? With this attitude, Noah, Chosen One, you will die in the Spirit World.}

’That would be—!’

{Then you will definitely lose your wives. Then you can forget about your world, your children you left in the waking world, and your siblings and friends.}

Noah finally paused, his mind slowly coming back to him.

He was close to crossing the bridge, he sensed.

{So let us ask you one more ti, Noah.}

The Records paused, then...

{Who are you? No. Let us be more clear.}

{What makes you who you are, Noah Vaelgrim? Or did death truly make you forget your core?}

’What makes Noah?’ Noah echoed, and the answer ca from him like a blinding light dispelling the thick fog of darkness. ’My wives. My children. My... family.’

{All of them are still alive. And all of them sacrificed their lives to accompany you in this journey.}

{You have no right to doubt yourself.}

{And you have no right to wonder who you are, for that will not be what they will need in that place. They will need you at your best.}

{So wake up, Noah. You do not need Us to tell you who you are to believe in yourself. Everyone else can. But not you.}

{We gave you the authority of nas for a reason. You were ant to define your own existence. Not anyone else. Not even us.}

{You are the Chosen One. Act like one.}

Noah paused, far away from this endless dark, a wisp of silver light appeared.

The words of The Records played inside his head again and again until it clicked, and understanding bathed what remained of him.

He had lost everything, he believed.

And that was true.

But was that surprising? Everything he had obtained was handed to him by The Records. Through his deeds, yes. Yet it didn’t change the core fact.

Soone else gave it to him because they thought him worthy. Then how could he not expect to lose everything when soone else ca and took all he gained because he was no longer worthy?

How would he fare?

Thus, he understood sothing.

True power ca only from within. Anything that was handed to you could be taken back.

The only thing that wasn’t handed to him in his whole life was the connections with the people he ford by himself, of his own volition.

With his wives, his children, and siblings.

It was them who still now anchored his existence and made him rember who he was.

And that confird his new understanding.

So his next action was clear. And now, finally, he knew what The Records expected him to do.

Noah realized that until now, he was still not swimming upstream the Great River. He was following all the others, but with just a more sophisticated approach than them.

What a fool he had been.

But he smiled, or he thought he did. Difficult to know in that gory place.

’Will you give what I would seek?’

{You killed a Progenitor. You killed a Pinnacle. You killed two beings standing near the Pinnacle. You have killed trillions of void beasts and lords and wounded Yellow massively.}

The Records paused.

{By all ans, for these impossible achievents, you have the right to claim one single thing.}

{We will not give it to you. We will give you the opportunity to obtain it by yourself.}

{Tell us, Chosen One. What do you wish?}

A simple question.

Yet the simplest question was most of the ti the most difficult to answer.

What did he wish? Noah wished many things.

But the one that went over the top of everything else was one thing... his system.

Providence.

Noah didn’t know where it ca from. But he was not a fool to believe it belonged to him. Soone had made sure he got it, and that soone could take back his system if they wished.

But that was sothing he could not accept. For taking his system ant taking his wife.

Yet Noah knew better than to outright provoke such a being. He had learned now.

He had matured now.

He had succeeded in his gamble with Luelle, but he doubted it would always be the case.

He was not one with subtlety. Yet he must be one now.

Noah was the one who made Providence who she was now. He nad her. So he could take her self, and let everything else of the system intact.

And with that...

Noah grinned.

It was ti to create his own system.

’That’s what I want.’

{Then brace yourself, Noah.}

{The opportunity to achieve that will be given.}

Noah’s body began to glow with intense light.

{Your success or your failure depends on you.}

{And so...}

Noah’s soul disappeared before entering the spirit world.

{We wish you success.}
