Shane took a step back and rubbed his boot on the ground, trying to calm himself. He looked at his best friend’s back, ready to tell the truth.
Before he could, Lor ca over and acted like she needed help.
She pulled her partner in cri to the side, and they started whispering in low voices.
After a few seconds, Shane got upset and walked out.
"Wow, they don’t even bother to hide it. It’s so obvious," Kana added. "So, does the real husband know?"
Luck shrugged. "I wouldn’t bet on it, but if he’s really dumb enough to ignore the obvious, then it’s on him."
The corners of Kana’s mouth lifted in a knowing smile; she was a sucker for drama like this.
"You think Shane actually has a shot to get her? It’s just so... typical," she mused, leaning back on her hands and gazing up at the sky.
"I’m no expert, but it looks like she’s doing everything she can to avoid that from happening. She probably still loves her husband. Or maybe she just doesn’t want to take any bla. Who knows... Who cares?"
He planned to leave it at that since he didn’t care much about it.
[DING!]
[Bonus Mission]
[Find proof of Shane and Lor’s secret affair and show it to Rick and his son.]
[Reward: The more their reputation is ruined, the bigger the reward.]
It looked like the system was going all in on stirring up drama with the way these missions kept coming.
’Well, finding evidence will be easy, but it should be sothing undeniable. The best way is to record a video of them in the act.’
For now, he chose to watch and wait since there was no ti limit.
Hours passed, and the new groups started learning how to use bows, and spears.
Luck watched them practice and knew they needed a better way to make arrows. Relying on the online store cost too much.
He called everyone over and spoke in a firm voice. "From now on, we’ll make our own arrows"
People nodded in agreent. He picked a team of four and sent them out to gather supplies.
They returned hours later, carrying wood planks and tal rods they found in an old hardware store.
Everyone got to work right away. So shaped the wood into smooth shafts. Others hamred tal into arrowheads.
A few tested the balance of the finished pieces.
Soon, piles of homade spears and arrows lay on the tables, ready to be used.
Since there was still ti before nightfall, they also worked on the defenses.
They reinforced the barbed wire and dug holes along the wall periter,.
Because of the limited ti, they only managed to cover a few ters.
Still, it would be useful once they finished the projects.
As night fell, the air grew tense.
Zombies started appearing again, their groans echoing in the dark.
This ti, there were more than twice as many as before. The sight made everyone more nervous.
"Babe!" Kana called out, her hands trembling as she passed the binoculars to him.
What greeted Luck was a fat zombie standing six feet tall with a swollen belly.
Six jumpers moved beside it, their limbs long and ready to spring.
’As expected. I was starting to wonder why things were so easy yesterday,’
He didn’t feel too worried, though because of Ki utilization.
"Alright, everyone, start shooting your bows. There are seven big mutated zombies out there. They can jump over the wall and rip you apart, so take out the normal ones first,"
The group nodded and fired their arrows.
"No matter what happens, don’t use any guns. I’ll deal with them" Luck shouted.
Rick’s group looked unsure, but Fernando and the others started laughing.
"Go get them, boss!" Fernando called out. "Show those freaks who’s in charge!"
The newcors thought this group was crazy. But when Luck started firing his bow, they almost bit their tongues.
His arrows made a loud whooshing sound and pierced through three zombies at once.
"See that?" Dima patted Shane’s shoulders. "That’s the boss’s power, and he’s not even using ten percent of it. This is gonna be another walk in the park."
With the montum in their favor, they quickly thinned the horde.
Three jumpers began closing in.
"Do you want to help?" kana asked.
"No, you’re my secret weapon, so just watch your aweso boyfriend handle this," Luck said with a grin.
He drew the string back, but this ti he didn’t let it go right away.
Ki flowed through his body, and a mist rose off his skin so thick everyone could see it.
"You jumpers are really unlucky. My girl’s here, so I have to try extra hard to look cool."
Kana blushed and looked away.
SWOOOOSH!
A loud whooshing sound tore through the air, and a split second later, one jumper’s head burst apart like it had been hit by a shotgun at point-blank range.
’Good attack, but the charging ti takes too long,’
He dropped the bow and grabbed his sword. As the two jumpers leaped at him.
"You picked the wrong target." In one smooth motion, he swung the blade and sliced them both across the belly mid-air.
Then he kicked the bow back into his hand and pulled the string again, charging up for another long-range shot.
This ti, he aid straight at the big-bellied one .
But Kana stopped him.
"Wait, babe. Rember the note? If you kill that thing, it’ll explode and draw more zombies. You should shoot its feet instead to stop it."
"I know," Luck nodded, letting go of the string .
The arrow flew fast, ripping through the creature’s leg.
It lost balance and tumbled to the ground, rolling around in a clumsy, almost funny way.
The three jumpers that was escorting it grew enraged.
They rushed toward the wall, zigzagging to make themselves harder to hit. It showed they had so intelligence.
’These three are faster. I should take this more seriously,’
He took a deep breath, aid carefully, and let another arrow fly.
It shot forward fast but only hit one in the shoulder.
This gave the other two ti to sprint ahead and leap onto the walls.
The kids and elderly near the wall started to panic.
One of the jumpers swung its claws, almost slashing a boy who froze in fear. An old man tried to pull him back, but he stumbled.
"NO!" Lor scread when she saw her son on the brink of death.
"Not on my watch!" Luck stepped in fast and blocked the attack with his sword, the force pushing him back a step.
"Everyone, get out of here!" he yelled.
They grabbed the kids and ran, their footsteps echoing off the walls as the two monsters hissed and prepared to strike again.
"What do you think you’re doing on my turf?! I’m the final boss here!" Luck yelled, trying to draw their attention.
Unfortunately, it backfired.
The third one leaped in and landed behind him, and now they surrounded him on all sides.
’Shit, this was what he got for bragging too much.’ He gripped his sword, eyes darting left and right.
