Evacuation zones were basically safehouses for survivors. They provided protection, shelter, food, water, and dicine to those who needed it. They also had guards and other facilities like dical tents or even a makeshift hospital.
The place we were moving to was located a bit away from the quarantine zone.
Based on what I heard from Leon as we moved away from the crowd of zombies, this evacuation point was located around a few KM from where we were.
It was supposed to be built secretly and they planned to move everyone here after they had secured it. But since the undead breached the fence and attacked us, we were forced to evacuate early.
"The bomb will go off soon." Leon looked at his watch, which showed a countdown tir. "Everyone, move! We don't have ti!"
We were still running through the deserted city when the explosion happened. A bright flash of light appeared behind us followed by a thundering noise that shook everything. It caused everyone nearby to stop moving for a mont as they watched the blast.
The explosion was visible even though we had ran far from the place where the bomb was planted. Black smoke rose above the area where it exploded.
I was worried if Saya or Miss Shizuka were hurt in the explosion, or if there were casualties among our team mbers or other teams who had gone out of the base before us.
"What a big explosion." Saeko exclaid as she joined , sheathing her sword into the scabbard. "All the zombies here are running to that place as soon as it blew up."
"I can see that too." I answered her.
It's pretty clear that zombies were attracted to the big explosion, which made it easy for us to escape.
"Co on." Miss Rika beckoned, "Let's go. It's safer there than here."
We nodded in agreent.
Our journey had been smooth so far without any incident, except for the occasional zombie encounters along our way. Luckily, none of us had been bitten yet.
We arrived in the new evacuation zone after an hour or two. There were soldiers waiting at the gate to welco us in the caged area.
I could see a lot of people inside the evacuation zone already, so of them were resting and others were working on sothing. So of them seed injured but most of them looked healthy.
The gate was opened for our arrival and we drove inside. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I saw Saya and Miss Shizuka waving at us. I was glad to see them safe, as was Saeko.
Before I went to greet them,I looked around the evacuation zone.
Compared to the previous evacuation zone, this place was way bigger, maybe around twice or three tis the size of the old one. It's not surprising to since the old one was a makeshift evacuation point, hastily built to accommodate the influx of people.
anwhile, this one had been prepared ahead of ti and it's even properly built.
The fence around the area was made of concrete blocks and tal bars, unlike the previous fence that consisted of tal wires. The security was also tighter, with a group of guards standing near each corner of the wall.
Aside from that, I could see many buildings within the compound itself. So were used for sheltering refugees while so served as dical facilities and even administrative offices. There was even an open field where children could play.
This place felt more like a refugee camp.
"I am glad to see you safe." I greeted both Miss Shizuka and Saya with a smile.
"Hmph! It seems you're safe." Saya huffed and threw her face away, but I could see relief in her eyes.
"Fufufu, we arrived first." Miss Shizuka added, "But... where is Rika? Isn't she with you?"
"Well, she went off sowhere earlier."
Unlike and Saeko who had nothing to do, Miss Rika had to deal with reports and stuff and was now probably at the administrative office.
I didn't know what kind of discussion she was having there. It might be about how things were going on or what they planned to do next, but it wasn't my business. All I had to do now was rest until soone called for .
Anyway, after exchanging a few more words with Miss Shizuka and Saya, we headed toward our new living area.
It's one of many temporary shelters built inside the compound.
There was no individual room, and instead, everyone had to sleep together. But at least we got to have our own bed and a blanket.
We entered our new room and settled in. Five beds were prepared, enough for us.
At least no one joined us here. I guessed the last bed was for Miss Rika, seeing there was a locker for our vest and weapons in this room.
I put my backpack down beside the bed, feeling a bit exhausted.
The softness of the mattress was welcoming to after running and killing for so long. I was also sweaty.
Sleepiness ca to but my mind told that I needed to clean up first.
And I was thinking about doing so when the door suddenly opened.
"Is Busujima Daiki here?"
A man entered the room, looking around until his gaze t mine. "Yes, that's you. You need to co with ."
"What? Where?"
"An important person wants to see you." He answered, gesturing for to follow. "Please, it's urgent."
The girls looked at the man and , clearly worried.
But I couldn't do anything but follow the man's request. After all, we're in a military camp now and they had power over us civilians.
I left the room, following the man. He led to the administration office and I could tell from the way he moved that the person who asked for must be pretty high ranking.
We walked through the hallway and reached the end of the corridor where the office was located. I was asked to enter and when I stepped inside the office, I noticed that it was actually quite big.
Albert Wesker sat there along with Miss Rika and Leon, facing an old man in a suit. The old man had a stern expression on his face, and his eyes were sharp and piercing.
The man that called for left after he had brought here. It seed like the situation here wasn't really good. The old man had an expressionless face as he stared at coldly, and he seed to be a high-ranking military officer.
Either that or soone very important, as there was a United State flag on the table.
Just as I guessed earlier...
"Daiki, let introduce him." Miss Rika stood up from her seat and spoke. "This man is General Adams. He's the commander of the entire United State Army and the one who oversees this evacuation zone. You may address him as Sir Adams if you want."
The man looked at , studying my features closely. I didn't move a muscle nor show any emotions. I just kept looking straight into his eyes without blinking.
Finally, he smiled.
"It's a pleasure to et you. My na is Adams, and I am the general in charge of this area.”
