Chapter 1728: Fight between husbands
Yu Dong had no desire to find trouble with the Zhou family either. Though she wished she could skin Zhou Jiao Jiao alive, Yu Dong knew that if she didn't let this woman off, she would cause unnecessary trouble for her village and the villagers.
She snorted and said to Master Zhou, "Fine. I will let this matter slide. But let this be a lesson to you and your daughter. The villagers of the Big River Village are not weak, don't ever think of bullying us again."
Her words relieved Village Head Gu and the elders while at the sa ti, a lot of people felt touched by Yu Dong's kindness.
She could have easily dealt a severe blow to the Zhou family and Zhou Jiao Jiao but for the sake of their village, Yu Dong was willing to swallow her grievance.
She was just so kind!
Yu Dong on the other hand had no desire to let this woman escape so easily, her eyes narrowed slightly as she thought of sothing. Her lips curled in a delightful smirk.
"Madam Yu is right."
"Don't ever try to wrong a r of our village again. In the future, if we see you causing trouble for our rs, we will not leave you alone."
"That's right we already gave you a chance after all."
"Get lost! We don't want to look at your disgusting face anymore."
"If there is a next ti, we will drag you to yan!" Elder Wu snorted.
"What a perverted woman."
Zhou Jiao Jiao was embarrassed, she pushed off her daddy and staggered out of the common house. After suffering such a humiliation even if her skin was thicker than the walls that Yu Dong had built around the village, Zhou Jiao Jiao did not have the face to stay anymore.
"Jiao Jiao!" Master Zhou chased after his daughter and even the mbers of the Zhou village fled. They ca here thinking that they would be able to get their hands on so nice compensation.
In the end, they were humiliated like such!
It was so embarrassing.
Now that the matter was more or less cleared, everyone returned to their work. In order to watch the show, many of them didn't finish sowing the crops that were waiting to be sowed! Speaking of the show, Gu Mo was not a good thing.
How could he do such a thing? Was he not worried that he would ruin a good marriage? The wise woman once said that no one should destroy a marriage.
And yet that r wanted to ruin Yu Dong and Ye Liu's marriage. Anyone with eyes could see that there was sothing fishy going on.
Most probably he wanted to interfere between Ye Liu and Yu Dong. As the rest of the rs had children, Gu Mo must have thought that it was going to be difficult for him to snatch Yu Dong for himself. Thus he went after Ye Liu.
What a shaless r. No wonder he raised a scheming daughter like Ding Nuan Nuan.
On the other hand, Yu Dong handed Village Head Gu a large bundle of vegetables and a catty of pork belly which were soaked in the spiritual water.
This was good for Village Head Gu's nourishnt.
Village Head Gu knew that these vegetables and the at that Yu Dong gave her were not only expensive but also really good. She smiled at her while sitting down on the small cot.
"There is no need for you to treat
so well," Village Head Gu sighed as she nursed her feet. However, she was still touched by Yu Dong's concern. Her attitude beca much more amiable and she started talking about the important things that took place in Yu Dong's absence.
She also told her about the guards who had been sweeping next to the Murong village.
"Guards?" Yu Dong raised a brow.
"That's right, guards and if I am not wrong …." Village Head Gu trailed off as she lowered her voice and whispered into Yu Dong's ears. "Those are imperial guards. I heard from Big Gu that these guards have the accent of the capital and they are looking for a gold mine."
Yu Dong's eyes widened slightly but she cald down, behaving as if she had no idea what Village Head Gu was talking about.
"So did they find it?" Yu Dong asked even though she already had an answer. The gold mine that these people were looking for was in her land which she had purchased along with Marquis Qiao.
Thus, even though there were proper security asures taken by the two of them, Yu Dong was not certain. They have left that region untouched but if the Imperial Guards were already probing then there must be a spy in the magistrate's office.
She now needed to know how deeply this spy infiltrated the office.
Village Head Gu shook her head and replied, "No. My eldest saw them lurking next to the Murong village just yesterday. They even tried to sneak inside our village but the walls that we have built kept them out."
"I am really worried .." she lowered her head, a sigh escaping her lips as she twiddled with her thumbs and fingers. "If this continues I am worried that we will be dragged to a war that has nothing to do with us."
The Imperial Family was in a ss and this impending war had nothing to do with them and yet the young won and n were dragged out of their hos in the na of tax repaynt and avoidance of debt.
The levy was imposed on the poor without any warning and the taxes were increasing day by day.
Now all of a sudden the Imperial Guards were looking for the Gold mine, no matter how calm of a woman Village Head Gu was— even she could see that the things were getting serious.
Yu Dong listened and thought for a mont before agreeing with Village Head Gu that they needed to strengthen the security. Even if the ones who were patrolling outside the village were Imperial Guards— they were here in incognito — surely they would not do anything to attract attention to themselves.
