The next morning, Yu Dong woke up early and was prepared to set off with her bags packed.
Shen Li woke up with her and helped her dress up, as his hands worked on Yu Dong's long hair, he said to her, "Ah Dong, I have packed a few ointnts and healing pills in your bags. Though I hope that you will not need to use them, if you end up in a situation where you have to use it make sure to eat the pills."
"Don't treat yourself harshly and think you will be fine, okay ?"
Shen Li knew that his wife hardly cared for her wounds as she knew that her wounds would be healed without dicine but his heart ached when he thought about how Yu Dong treated herself so carelessly.
She would make a fuss if either he or his brothers ended up with a single wound and yet she would calmly go on with her day even if her shoulder was to pop out.
"I know, you don't have to worry. You are reacting as if I am going to war," Yu Dong held Shen Li's hands with which he was brushing her hair. She kissed the back of his hand and said, "I will make sure to co back to you and everyone else safe and sound. You won't see even a strand of hair missing."
Shen Li smiled at his wife and kissed her on the lips as he bent down. With a small peck, he stood right back up and then styled Yu Dong's hair in a pretty hairdo before placing the hairpin neatly.
"Your hair has gotten shinier and smoother, I really like combing it for you," Shen Li said to Yu Dong who stood up from the stool. She went around him and placed her hands on his shoulders as the two of them looked at the fine mirror that Yu Dong had created after breaking the formula that was needed.
"I know, isn't that why I am growing my hair longer? I love it when you style my hair for
every morning," Yu Dong pecked Shen Li on her cheeks causing the r to shyly lower his head.
"I was thinking—"
"Waaaa! I want to go too! I will go with my sister!"
Before Shen Li could finish what he was saying, Yu Mai's crying voice ca from outside and the two of them turned to look at one another.
Without so much as asking what was going on Yu Dong and Shen Li headed out of their room. Yu Dong arrived at the main hall and found her brother lying on the floor like a turtle.
Big tears fell from his eyes like pearls as he glared at Ye Liu as if the latter had committed so grave sin.
"What happened?" Yu Dong asked as she looked at her husband and her brother.
"Sister!" Yu Mai imdiately got up from the floor and threw himself on Yu Dong. "I want to go too, take
too!"
Yu Dong reached out her hands to stabilise Yu Mai and then looked up at Ye Liu.
"I told him that you are going to see, second uncle and he started making a fuss saying that he wanted to go as well," Ye Liu explained the situation to Yu Dong. It was not that he did not want to let Yu Mai go but how could they let him leave the house?
So refugees were willing to kidnap children and sell them for grains and money. If Yu Mai ended up in the hands of soone with evil intentions, who would be responsible?
But Yu Mai did not listen to anything that he was saying and kept making a fuss about how he wanted to go with his sister. He wanted to follow Yu Dong but there were a lot of things that they needed to handle.
What was more, if he left, who would deal with the matter of the school building? Those elders were still hopping up and down causing trouble.
Soone needed to stay behind to keep them in check as well. With Shen Li and the temper of others, there was no way they could deal with those stubborn elders.
Yu Dong looked down at Yu Mai and asked, "Why do you want to co with ?"
"I want to et with Second uncle too," Yu Mai said to Yu Dong. "I heard from grandma that second uncle was really good and treated
really well when I was born."
Ah. So that was what was going on?
Yu Dong crouched down and looked at Yu Mai before saying, "But what can we do? It's dangerous outside."
"But I want to go with sister," Yu Mai pouted and complained, "Sister doesn't take
anywhere. Mai also wants to go on a trip, I haven't even ridden the carriage yet."
The only ti he did was when he almost drowned alright!
Yu Dong opened her mouth but then closed it again. Indeed Yu Mai had not gone out of the house ever since he returned. It was not that she didn't want to take him out but Yu Mai himself did not like going outside.
Because he was different from others, people made fun of him and Yu Mai hated going outside. Now the villagers treated him well and his confidence seed to have been emboldened.
"No, you can't!" Ye Liu imdiately stopped Yu Dong when he saw that she was moved by Yu Mai's puppy eyes. "The situation outside is not good, Mai is so young. Not to ntion he looks plump and beautiful. What if soone tries to steal him? It's easy for him to get targeted."
"You cannot take him with you!"
If Yu Dong and Yu Le ran into human traffickers or refugees, it would be really troubleso.
"It is alright," said Yu Dong seriously. "We will stay in the carriage all the ti and I will take care of Mai." She paused and then added, "If I were to leave him here, he would still make a fuss. You know how stubborn he could be at tis."
The last ti Yu Mai ran to the mountains to prove a fact who knows if he would chase the carriage this ti around? What if he tried to sneak out of the village on his own?
